CNN claimed this year that talk show host Joe Rogan injected himself with horse dewormer after he contracted the coronavirus. It was a lie. Not a misstatement or an exaggeration, but an outright lie. Rogan did no such thing. Rather, he took the human version of ivermectin, as prescribed by his doctor. It’s a perfectly normal and safe drug taken by literally billions of people. Yet night after night, CNN told its viewers Rogan had swallowed livestock paste. This week, Rogan had a chance to confront CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta over the cable network’s dishonest reporting. Gupta admitted eventually in the interview that, yeah, CNN clearly said things that were not true. “Don’t you think a lie like that is dangerous on a news network when ...
British police say a man has been arrested after a stabbing in eastern England on Friday. Multiple media reports say the victim is a Conservative lawmaker attacked during a meeting with constituents. The Essex Police force said officers were called to reports of a stabbing in Leigh-on-Sea just after noon Friday. It said “a man was arrested and a knife recovered. “We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the wider public,” police said. Sky News and others said Conservative lawmaker David Amess was attacked during a regular meeting with constituents at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, a seaside town east of London. There was no immediate word on his condition. Amess’ London offic...
Israel's defense establishment is alert to recent threats that Iran may retaliate for attacks on Syria allegedly carried out by Israel, Israel Hayom reported. The establishment is also taking very seriously the possibility that Syria or one of the Iranian satellites in the region will attempt to retaliate. On Wednesday, the pro-Iranian militias in Syria threatened revenge outright, a statement by a joint command center shared by the various militias in Syria said. The statement also claimed that four members of the groups were eliminated and several others injured in an IDF strike near Homs. According to the report, which was published on the Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen, during the attack, which was launched from the area near where the borders of Jo...
Nearly 1 in 6 adult Jewish New Yorkers experienced financial setbacks during the pandemic, and three quarters of Jewish New Yorkers who said they have a substance abuse problem said it worsened during that period. That’s according to a new study by UJA-Federation, which surveyed 4,400 Jews in and around New York City to guide its philanthropic efforts to meet the most pressing needs of New Yorkers. The survey found that while Jewish New Yorkers overall experienced less severe economic and psychological effects of the pandemic than other populations, they were hardly unaffected. The poll found that 22% of adults in Jewish households faced reduced hours or income in the last year, 8% had been laid off and 12% had been furloughed. It also found a 12% unemployment rate for a...
Gov. Larry Hogan says the White House is expecting the approval of the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. The governor says that the White House told the states this week to prepare for vaccination efforts for that age group when the vaccines are approved. Hogan says Maryland is ready and waiting for the approval. “We’ve been planning for it for a number of months,” Hogan said on Thursday. “Just waiting for that day that we get the approvals and we do believe that will happen.” Hogan expects the approval to happen by the end of the month. He says the state health department has already been in contact with local health departments around the state.

A suicide attack at a Shiite mosque in southern Afghanistan killed at least 30 worshipers on Friday, the latest in a spate of attacks since the withdrawal of U.S. troops. The explosion took place during crowded Friday prayers in Kandahar, Afghanistan’s second-largest city and the birthplace of the Taliban. It followed a suicide bombing claimed by Islamic State that killed some 100 people on Oct. 8 at a Shiite mosque in the northern city of Kunduz. The United Nations said at least 30 people were killed and scores injured in the Kandahar attack. A witness said dozens of people were killed or injured, including his cousin, who died of his wounds. “The prayer had ended. We were preparing to leave the mosque when we heard gunfire outside. A few seconds later, there wa...
China’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday warned against what it called possible “political manipulation” of a renewed probe by the World Health Organization into the origins of the coronavirus, while saying it would support the international body’s efforts. The WHO on Wednesday released a proposed list of 25 experts to advise it on next steps in the search for the virus’ origins after its earlier efforts were attacked for going too easy on China, where the first human cases were detected in late 2019. Beijing was accused of withholding raw data on early cases during a visit by a WHO team in February and has since resisted calls for further investigation, saying the U.S. and others were politicizing the matter. Foreign Ministry spoksperson Zhao Lijian said China...
Fierce public backlash could force Democrats to rethink a proposal that includes the monitoring of most financial accounts, the Washington Examiner reported. A plan to provide the IRS with access to individual bank accounts with balances as low as $600 may end up significantly modified or dropped altogether, the Examiner reported Thursday. Republicans and trade groups oppose the proposal saying it would infringe on privacy, create significant liability for financial institutions, and add new costs for consumers. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., brushed off concerns about the provision when reporters asked about it on Tuesday, the Examiner said. “Yes, there are concerns that some people have,” Pelosi said. “But if people are breaking the law and not payin...
Social media has helped to connect the world in a way previous generations could never dream of. Unfortunately, there’s a dark side to that global online community. From social media trolling to cyber bullying to threats against our right to privacy, a new study finds using social media comes with many risks to your health and well-being. Researchers with the University of Technology Sydney have discovered 46 specific harmful effects of using social networks. These include physical detriments, mental health problems, impacts on work or school productivity, and security or privacy issues. To call this a risk to global health would be an understatement. More than 3.6 billion people, about half the global population, use social networks such as Facebook and Instagram. Researchers...
COVID-19 was the No. 1 leading cause of death in the U.S. in January, at the peak of last winter’s brutal coronavirus surge, but then vaccines became widely available and it dropped to No. 7 by July, the Kaiser Family Foundation says in a new analysis of COVID-19 fatalities. Then the Delta variant hit and found ample unvaccinated Americans to kick COVID-19 back up to the No. 2 killer in August and September, the leading cause of death for Americans age 35 to 54, and even the sixth or seventh leading cause of death for children.
Dwindling populations of the American bumblebee and their complete disappearance from eight states has led to a call for the bee to be placed under the Endangered Species Act before they face extinction. Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Idaho, North Dakota, Wyoming, and Oregon each have zero or close to zero American bumblebees left, according to a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity and Bombus Pollinators Association of Law Students. “The American bumble bee was once the most common bumble bee species in North America, but without immediate action to protect it under the ESA, it will continue its alarming decline towards extinction,” the petition authors wrote. Over the last two decades, the American bumblebee population has decreased ...
One can only imagine the sheer frustration Avraham must have sensed upon discovering the contention that developed between his shepherds and those of his nephew and brother-in-law, Lot. Here it was, his loyal nephew valiantly joining him in a journey into the unknown, and suddenly, Avraham, because of a dispute between their respective shepherds feels compelled to part ways. Is this the Avraham we know? Did he give up on Lot so readily without any resistance or effort to reconcile? Avraham, the greatest outreach professional that ever existed, walks away from his own flesh and blood without putting up a fight to win Lot back? What is going on here? אל נא — Please not,  תהי מריבה— let there be strife, between me and you... for we are brothers...הפרד נא &...
And the Lord said to Abram, “Go forth from your land and from your birthplace and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you.” (Bereishis 13:1) Avraham was commanded to leave the life he had known, venture forth into the great unknown and embrace his personal destiny. Upon arriving in the land of Canaan, he is faced with the stark reality of regional famine that forces him to relocate (together with his family) to Egypt. It is in Egypt that Avraham faces a society hostile to his spiritual and moral views. Yet, Avraham and Sarah persevere and make their way back to the Canaan. It is during this return journey to Canaan that the Torah shares an interesting piece of information. And he went on his journeys, from the south and until Beth El, until the place ...

"He is on the mend, in good spirits, and is incredibly thankful to the doctors, nurses, and staff providing him with excellent care." A panel of expert advisers to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unanimously voted on Thursday to recommend booster shots of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine for Americans aged 65 and older and those at high risk of severe illness or occupational exposure to the virus, Reuters reports. If the FDA signs off on Moderna's booster, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will make specific recommendations on who should get the shots. CDC advisers are scheduled to meet next week. The FDA's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee met on Thursday to consider the additional dose of the Moderna vaccine and will weigh whether to make a similar recommendation for Johnson & Johnson's vaccine on Friday. The House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol will vote next Tuesday to hold former President Donald Trump’s political adviser Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress for not complying with a subpoena, NBC News reported on Thursday. Bannon is one of four Trump associates who received subpoenas to appear before the committee. The others are former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, former deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino and Kash Patel, a former chief of staff to then-acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller who had also served as an aide to Republican Rep. Devin Nunes. Meadows and Patel have been cooperating with the committee, but Bannon was not. Separately, because service of Scavino’s subpoena was delayed, ...
The United States was re-elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council on Thursday. Former US President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the UNHRC in 2018, citing its longstanding anti-Israel bias. However, the Biden Administration returned to the organization even though it acknowledged its “disproportionate focus” on Israel. In an election held by the UN General Assembly on Thursday, 168 members voted in favor of US membership. The US received the second lowest number of votes, surpassing only Eritrea, who had 144 votes, according to Reuters. In remarks after the vote, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield vowed to “oppose the Council’s disproportionate attention on Israel, which includes the Council’s ...
