An attorney for former President Trump says he will fight to block the release of his tax returns days after the Department of Justice ordered them turned over to the Democratic-led House Ways and Means Committee.
“There is no evidence of any wrongdoing here and I object to the release of the returns not only on behalf of my client but on behalf of all future holders of the office of the president of the United States,” Ronald Fischetti, a lawyer for Trump, told The Wall Street Journal.
In a memo from the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, acting Assistant Attorney General Dawn Johnsen on Friday said the Treasury Department is required to defer to the congressional committee.
New restrictions approved as outbreak continues with no end in sight
Israel's coronavirus cabinet decided on new restrictions Tuesday night in an effort to contain an outbreak of the highly contagious delta variant, warning the public that unless cases are brought down the restrictions will become more severe, including closures.
The new regulations, pending government approval, will go into effect on August 8.
They include extending the "green pass" vaccination certificate to gatherings of fewer than 100 people and for all ages; wearing a mask in open spaces where there is a crowd of 100 or more people; reducing attendance of government ministries to 50 percent; and recommending the private sector move to a work-from-home format.

Annapolis, MD - Aug. 3, 2021 - Maryland Sec. of State, John Wobensmith, has written a letter announcing the state’s decision to join a list of states examining its relationship with the ice-cream maker Ben & Jerry’s, as well as its parent company, Unilever, after the company announced last month that it will no longer sell its products in what the company deemed “Occupied Palestinian Territory,” which includes the West Bank and parts of Jerusalem.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said the state is not considering reinstating a mask mandate.
Speaking Tuesday morning at a news conference for the demolition of the Baltimore City Detention Center, the governor said: "We're not talking about reinstating a mask mandate."
Hogan said, however, that the state's COVID-19 team met Monday and that it remains important to get vaccinated.
"We're still very concerned about the delta variant. It's more contagious, it's spreading rapidly and we're telling those people that haven't gotten vaccinated that they need to. The other folks are in much better shape," Hogan said. "If you want to stay out of the hospital, and you want to avoid dying, then you should get vaccinated."

"Shalom Sivan, his it's Avi Naveh from Ma'alot (in Upper Galilee). I am an educator and - as much as it's a cliche to admit - my work at school is easy compared to my work at home. We are at the height of summer vacation and we have reached the conclusion that our two biggest challenges revolve around digital devices: excessive use of cell phones on the one hand and difficulty waking up in the morning on the other. And, of course, the two are connected. When the kids are glued to their screens until the middle of the night, the result is that every morning I try in vain to wake them up, shouting and trudging up the stairs numerous times, while providing wake-up service to the entire neighborhood in the process. The daily rhythm is sabotaged as night becomes day a...

The leak of a coronavirus that caused the deadly COVID-19 pandemic was likely accidental, Rep. Mike McCaul, the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Monday about a new report from the panel’s Republican staff on the origins of the disease released Monday.
However, the “greatest cover-up in human history” came into play at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in late 2019, the Texas Republican told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”
“I think the Chinese Communist Party was very concerned about this report coming out telling the truth and it’s already been interpreted into Mandarin as well,” said McCaul. “The fact of the matter is, they were playing with fire. They were genetically manipulating at th...

Fareed Zakaria, the anchor of CNN’s popular “GPS” international news show, has apologized to Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs president Dore Gold for an erroneous report in his show.
On July 25, during an interview with King Abdullah of Jordan, Zakaria claimed that Gold, former director-general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, said “Jordan needs to start thinking of itself as the Palestinian state. In other words, there is a two-state solution. The Palestinian state is Jordan.”
Zakaria also tweeted the alleged statement on his personal account, which was cited widely in the Jordanian press.
Gold set the record straight immediately, tweeting, “Zakaria is reporting fake news. I never said these...

While the Israeli Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the ambassadors have been invited to such a briefing, neither it nor the offices of Gantz and Lapid would comment further, according to the report.
