An attorney for former President Trump says he will fight to block the release of his tax returns days after the Department of Justice ordered them turned over to the Democratic-led House Ways and Means Committee.
“There is no evidence of any wrongdoing here and I object to the release of the returns not only on behalf of my client but on behalf of all future holders of the office of the president of the United States,” Ronald Fischetti, a lawyer for Trump, told The Wall Street Journal.
In a memo from the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, acting Assistant Attorney General Dawn Johnsen on Friday said the Treasury Department is required to defer to the congressional committee.

New restrictions approved as outbreak continues with no end in sight
Israel's coronavirus cabinet decided on new restrictions Tuesday night in an effort to contain an outbreak of the highly contagious delta variant, warning the public that unless cases are brought down the restrictions will become more severe, including closures.
The new regulations, pending government approval, will go into effect on August 8.
They include extending the "green pass" vaccination certificate to gatherings of fewer than 100 people and for all ages; wearing a mask in open spaces where there is a crowd of 100 or more people; reducing attendance of government ministries to 50 percent; and recommending the private sector move to a work-from-home format.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said the state is not considering reinstating a mask mandate.
Speaking Tuesday morning at a news conference for the demolition of the Baltimore City Detention Center, the governor said: "We're not talking about reinstating a mask mandate."
Hogan said, however, that the state's COVID-19 team met Monday and that it remains important to get vaccinated.
"We're still very concerned about the delta variant. It's more contagious, it's spreading rapidly and we're telling those people that haven't gotten vaccinated that they need to. The other folks are in much better shape," Hogan said. "If you want to stay out of the hospital, and you want to avoid dying, then you should get vaccinated."

President Biden on Tuesday called for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) to resign after the state attorney general concluded the governor [] harassed numerous state employees.
"I think he should resign," Biden told reporters.
"I'm sure there were some embraces that were totally innocent. But apparently, the attorney general decided there were things that weren't," he added when asked about Cuomo highlighting instances of Biden hugging others in his defense.

One police officer has reportedly died after a violent incident at a transit station outside the Pentagon on Tuesday, prompting the building to temporarily lock down.
The Associated Press, citing law enforcement officials, reported that a police officer was stabbed during a burst of violence and has died.
The Pentagon was put on lockdown earlier Tuesday morning following reports of gunshots being fired at a nearby Metro station.

Update as of Aug. 3, 11:47AM - Israel government officials announced that 18 more countries will be added to the list of ‘High Risk’ countries. This means that all travelers returning from these countries, including vaccinated or recovered persons will be required to observe quarantine. Quarantine is 14 days, but can be shortened to 7 days.
These new rules will take effect at midnight on August 11. Chaim V’Chessed advises those vacationing in these countries to depart from those locales before this time to avoid quarantine. The new ruling means that American students arriving next week, for the new school year, will be required to observe quarantine upon arrival.

Fareed Zakaria, the anchor of CNN’s popular “GPS” international news show, has apologized to Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs president Dore Gold for an erroneous report in his show.
On July 25, during an interview with King Abdullah of Jordan, Zakaria claimed that Gold, former director-general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, said “Jordan needs to start thinking of itself as the Palestinian state. In other words, there is a two-state solution. The Palestinian state is Jordan.”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo violated federal and state laws, finding he finding he “harassed multiple women” and then retaliated against the victims when they came forward creating a “toxic” atmosphere in the executive chamber.
The blockbuster announcement Tuesday is the result of a probe that found Cuomo engaged in “unwanted [behavior]…..and making inappropriate comments,” James said.

Israel will present ambassadors from United Nations Security Council member states on Wednesday with intelligence information linking Iran to the fatal attack last week on an Israeli-managed oil tanker off the coast of Oman, according to Israeli media reports.

A fourth law enforcement officer who responded to the Capitol on Jan. 6 has died by suicide, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed to The Hill on Monday.
A department spokesman said Officer Kyle DeFreytag, who had been with the department since November 2016, was found dead on July 10. Police confirmed DeFreytag, 26, was among a host of MPD officers who were sent to the Capitol in response to the riot.
