The largest nurse’s union in the country said Friday that it does not support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s decision to allow those completely vaccinated from COVID-19 to remove their masks and social distance in public. “This newest CDC guidance is not based on science, does not protect public health, and threatens the lives of patients, nurses, and other frontline workers across the country,” National Nurses United (NNU) Executive Director Bonnie Castillo, RN, said in a statement from the union on Friday. “Now is not the time to relax protective measures, and we are outraged that the CDC has done just that while we are still in the midst of the deadliest pandemic in a century.” Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL st...

IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Hidai Zilberman deflects criticism of the bombing of media office building in the Gaza Strip. IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Hidai Zilberman deflected criticism of the military's actions in the Gaza Strip on Sunday and particularly the bombing of a building with media offices on Saturday. “I want to see what would happen if one rocket was fired on Washington. They are firing salvos toward civilian populations,” Zilberman said when asked about the strike on the building that was home to the Associated Press and Al Jazeera offices in Gaza. “We are in the middle of an operation. If Hamas and PIJ think they can hide behind the media, their buildings are not something they can hide behind.” The IDF said the building hel...
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The poor cicada, which has been incubating for the past 17 years, decided to climb up a pole instead of a tree!  Do you even understand what that means? It means a few things. First of all, it means that the cicada will surely die prematurely and not live out its “true” mission in life. Second of all, it means that the 17 years of preparation for this cicada’s experience on earth was completely for naught. Third of all, maybe the saddest, it means that I was cruel enough not to pick up the poor critter and bring it to a nearby tree, just a few feet away!  The message from this incident reminded me about the holiday of Shavuos.  The Gemarah in Meseches Niddah (30b) explains that each of us – our Neshamos, ...

The Weekly Shtikle is dedicated le'iluy nishmas my Oma, Chaya Sara bas Zecharia Chaim, a"h. This week's shtikle is dedicated for a refuah sheleimah for my father. Please include Reuven Pinchas ben Yehudis in your tefillos. Shavuos features the reading of Megilas Rus, detailing the heroic journey of Rus converting to Judaism and ultimately marrying into the royal line and becoming the great grandmother David HaMelech. Na'ami initially attempts to dissuade both Rus and Arpah from joining her. She succeeds in pushing Arpah away but in the end, she brings Rus along with her as she returns home. What was it that she saw in Rus that she ultimately agreed to take her in? It occurred to me recently that perhaps what Na'ami sensed was ...

“We showed them the smoking gun proving Hamas worked out of that building,” a source close to Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi said. “I understand they found the explanation satisfactory.” Israel shared intelligence with the US showing how Hamas operated inside the same building with the Associated Press and Al-Jazeera in Gaza, officials in Jerusalem said on Sunday. Officials in more than one government office confirmed that US President Joe Biden’s phone call to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday was, in part, about the bombing of the building, and that Israel showed Biden and American officials the intelligence behind the action.
