President Rivlin: “The sight of the pogrom in Lod and the disturbances across the country by an incited and bloodthirsty Arab mob, Injuring people, damaging property and even attacking sacred Jewish spaces is unforgiveable. Tearing down the Israeli flag by Arab rioters and replacing it with the Palestinian flag is a brutal assault on shared existence in the State of Israel.”   “The silence of the Arab leadership about these disturbances is shameful, giving support to terrorism and rioting and encouraging the rupture of the society in which we live and in which we will continue to live once all this has passed.” “The Israeli government must pursue the rioters with a firm hand restore security and order while fighting terrorism from Gaza without co...
New York -- A growing consensus among public health experts that the U.S. could soon safely end mask mandates has put pressure on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to update its guidance in the weeks ahead or risk losing credibility with the public. All adult Americans who want to get a vaccine will have had the chance to do so in the next two months, the thinking goes, and they should then be able to make their own risk assessment based on the strong efficacy of the vaccines, which experts believe largely protects fully vaccinated Americans from getting severely ill with the virus and from transmitting it. The Pew Charitable Trusts report on American Jewry released today contains much of interest, and will be digested and analyzed for weeks and months to come. But its finding that approximately a quarter of U.S. Jewish adults do not identify at all with the Jewish religion, considering themselves Jewish only in an ethnic or cultural sense, should be deeply troubling to all Jews. While there are findings in the report that bode well for the future of the Orthodox community, we Orthodox face challenges of our own. Certainly, we can take no true comfort in our growth and retention rates when so many of our fellow Jews are rapidly shedding their religious identity as they assimilate into larger society. Ethnic and cultural identities – indeed, any Jewish identities shorn of what makes us...

The East Coast is experiencing a growing gas shortage, all connected to a cyberattack. The FBI said Russian hackers shut down the Colonial Pipeline, demanding a ransom. Lawmakers held a cybersecurity hearing Tuesday, where they talked about the attack that crippled a fuel pipeline, essential to the region. And Maryland is slowly starting to see the impact. The pipeline issue led the Environmental Protection Agency to issue an emergency fuel waiver for areas impacted by the shutdown, including Maryland. So, what happens if the problem isn't fixed in the next few days? It certainly wasn't a problem finding drivers out pumping gas today. Most told 11 News they just want to be prepared because they don't know what's going to happen next. "This is my third gas station...
The clash had begun Friday when Palestinians threw stones at Israeli police occupying the Al-Aqsa Mosque White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that plans to evict dozens of Palestinians from an east Jerusalem neighborhood work "against" U.S.-Israeli interests in finding a solution to the conflict and condemned "extremism that has inflicted violence on both communities."  Psaki reiterated the administration’s support for a two-state solution. Biden's "team is communicating a clear and consistent message in support of de-escalation," Psaki told reporters. Over the past few days, our brothers and sisters in Israel have been the victims of fierce and deadly assaults that have left them living in a state of panic and fear. We, at Agudath Israel of America, pray to the Master of the Universe that he will speedily bring these hostilities to an end and restore calm to the nation. We also plead that He bring comfort to the families of the dead and that He grant a full and swift recovery to the injured. A cyberattack prompted a shutdown of a gasoline pipeline that serves Maryland. No shortages have been reported at gas stations in the state. While supplies of gasoline are running out in parts of the Carolinas, Florida and the Atlanta area, there were no reports of gas shortages in Maryland on Tuesday. The problem is a result of a shutdown of a major gasoline pipeline that serves Maryland following a cyberattack. Federal authorities on Tuesday waived rules that bar the sale of conventional gasoline in Maryland and other areas where reformulated fuel is required. Regulators will permit the sale of gasoline that doesn't meet requirements meant to curtail smog, Bloomberg reported. State officials reviewed gasoline supplies at Tuesday's cabinet meeting, and G...
