A bipartisan group of 331 US House members — comprising more than three-quarters of the body — signed a letter Thursday rejecting any conditions placed on US aid to Israel, one week after controversial legislation that would do so was unveiled by progressive House Democrats. “Reducing funding or adding conditions on security assistance would be detrimental to Israel’s ability to defend itself against all threats,” said the letter, addressed to the heads of the House Appropriations Committee.  Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events & more Join BJL on WhatsApp Groups: Click here to Join an official BJL WhatsApp group for breaking news as it happens The signatories were roughly spl...
Former intelligence officer Tal Beeri tells JNS “an alternative and unfounded narrative of a warning strike” on Dimona’s nuclear research center is playing out in media channels affiliated with Iran. Two days before a Syrian surface-to-air missile flew into southern Israel in response to reported Israeli airstrikes on targets in the Damascus area, two suspicious Iranian cargo planes landed at Damascus International Airport, likely carrying advanced weapons, a former IDF intelligence officer has told JNS. Early on Thursday morning, international media reports said that the Israeli Air Force hit a number of unknown targets in Syria, which triggered a Syrian SA-5 surface-to-air missile battery to fire on the Israeli aircraft.  Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click her...
The key to reaching a level of true kedusha, holiness, is mastery of self. I can exercise control over my own actions, decisions, and behaviors. “And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Speak to the entire congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them, you shall be holy, for I, the Lord, your God, am holy.’” (Vayikra 19:1-3)  It seems like a simple directive, “Kedoshim Tihiyu, you shall be holy.” So simple, yet so profound and complex.  What does it mean to be holy? How do we actualize this holiness? The commentaries advance many different ideas and insights as to the meaning and actualization of the holiness concept. Rashi explains, “Separate yourself from immorality and sin.” Core holiness ...
Blood represents a powerful life-force, a vitality which can be used to facilitate growth and spread it to others. We must refrain from ingesting the blood so that we do not give in to the temptation of egocentricity, using our kochos, strengths, only for our personal self-advancement.
President Joe Biden opened a global climate summit with a pledge to cut at least in half the climate-wrecking coal and petroleum fumes that the U.S. pumps out, a commitment he hopes will spur China and other big polluters to speed up efforts of their own. Biden is offering Americans and the world a vision of a prosperous, clean-energy United States where factories churn out cutting-edge batteries for export, line workers re-lay an efficient national electrical grid, and crews cap abandoned oil and gas rigs and coal mines.  Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events & more Join BJL on WhatsApp Groups: Click here to Join an official BJL WhatsApp group for breaking news as it happens His commitment to cut U.S. foss...
It’s no secret that shot of caffeine from a morning coffee can give many people a quick boost. Now, a new study finds going for that second and third cup may be good for your brain. Researchers in Portugal say people who regularly drink coffee are not only more alert, but see more activity in their brains as well. According to the European Food Safety Authority, moderate coffee consumption is typically three to five cups per day. In the new study, researchers from the University of Minho reveal consuming this much caffeine each day can make coffee drinkers more focused while also displaying greater memory and learning abilities.  Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events & more Join BJL on WhatsAp...
At the end of this weeks Parsha, we find one of the first explicit references to the fact that Eretz Yisroel is fundamentally different than any other place on planet Earth.  The Pasuk says “the land will spit you out as it did the nations before you” (Acharei Mos, 18:28)                         Indeed, the idea of the land being incompatible with certain types of behavior is exclusive for Eretz Yisroel. We are warned not to copy the conduct of the Mitzrim, but nowhere do we see that Mitzrayim could not tolerate the practices of its inhabitants.  We also see that many Mitzvos in the Torah only apply in Eretz Yisroel.[1]  The Avos recognized the...
Throughout the pandemic, experts have said we need to achieve herd immunity to tame COVID-19. While the percentages cited have varied, most authorities have said herd immunity means that at least 70% of the population needs to be immunized either by vaccine or natural exposure to the virus to contain the spread of disease. According to USA Today, this goal has shifted as more Americans demonstrate vaccine hesitancy, refusing to get the vaccine. At one level the decision is political. A Kaiser Family Foundation Poll found that while 79% of Democrats say they have been vaccinated or intend to do so, 3 out of 10 Republicans said they would definitely not get vaccinated.  Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events...

The Chinese Communist Party is believed to be responsible for newly found hack attacks on the U.S. government, businesses and American infrastructure, cybersecurity company Mandiant said Wednesday. Why it matters: This is the third major cybersecurity breach to hit the U.S. in recent months — including two in March blamed on hackers linked to China’s government: one targeting 30,000 U.S. victims, including small businesses and local governments, the other hitting Microsoft.  Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events & more Join BJL on WhatsApp Groups: Click here to Join an official BJL WhatsApp group for breaking news as it happens Driving the news: The U.S. Cybersecurity an...

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted Tuesday in the death of George Floyd, is currently being held in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, The New York Times reports. Chauvin, 45, was remanded into custody immediately after he was declared guilty on all three counts against him – second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter – and was transferred to the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights soon after. The prosecution requested that Chauvin’s bail be revoked, which Judge Peter Cahill granted. Chauvin is waiting for his sentencing. He could face up to 40 years in prison for second-degree murder, the Times separately reported. Read more at The Hill.

Mark McCloskey, who stood armed with an AR-15 outside of his St. Louis home to confront Black Lives Matter protesters in June 2020, said he is considering a bid for U.S. Senate in Missouri. Running for the seat, which retiring Republican Sen. Roy Blunt will vacate in 2022, is “a consideration,” McCloskey said. A run for the Republican nomination would put him up against Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, who resigned the governorship on May 29, 2018, amid a scandal.  Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events & more Join BJL on WhatsApp Groups: Click here to Join an official BJL WhatsApp group for breaking news as it happens McCloskey, w...
“Believe your own eyes” — that was the prosecutor’s final admonition to the jury in the Derek Chauvin trial. And indeed, the evidence of their own eyes was likely the reason the jury members didn’t accept the defense’s case that there was “reasonable doubt” about Chauvin’s guilt. Instead, they convicted him on all charges. The same admonition should be governing the public response to the horrible event in Columbus, Ohio, that transpired just as the Chauvin verdict was being announced. The Kremlin announced on Thursday that it would begin to withdraw its troops massed near the Ukrainian border and annexed Crimea which had for weeks caused grave concerns in the West and Kiev. Moscow had described the buildup as a military exercise designed to test their defenses and made the decision to recall their troops after deeming the operation a success. “The troops have demonstrated their ability to ensure a reliable defense of the country,” said the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, quoted in a press release. “So I decided to complete the inspection activities in the southern and western military districts” bordering Ukraine.  Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events &...
