As reported by Chaim V’Chessed, for the past several weeks, it has been possible for relatives of Israeli citizens to obtain permission to enter Israel. However, a challenging component of the application process has been the requirement of an apostille stamp on various documents, such as birth or marriage certificates. Thanks to the efforts of our colleagues at Amudim, this requirement has now been largely dropped. Effective immediately, an apostille is no longer required to accompany most proof of relationship documents. The only exceptions are foreign spouses of Israeli citizens and minor children of an Israeli citizen parent. Child nutrition program waivers, which aimed to cut through red tape to allow kids to eat free even outside normal meal times, were implemented at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, at a time when millions of families faced financial strain, hunger and hardship. The waivers allowed schools and commun...

Scientists at Texas A&M University have identified a variant of the novel coronavirus that is potentially resistant to antibodies, the university announced in a statement. The strain, BV-1, was found in one individual who had reported mild symptoms of COVID-19. During lab tests, research showed that “several neutralizing antibodies are ineffective in controlling other variants with the same genetic markers as BV-1,” the university said. “We do not at present know the full significance of this variant, but it has a combination of mutations similar to other internationally notifiable variants of concern,” said Global Health Research Complex (GHRC) Chief Virologist Ben Neuman. “This variant combines genetic markers separately associated with rapid spr...

Rocket sirens have gone off in Southern Israel and the Patriot missile defense system has reportedly been activated near the site of Israel’s nuclear facility in Dimona. According to initial reports, a large explosion was heard by nearby residents, who said their homes shook from the force of the blast. Initial reports claim that a missile was intercepted by a Patriot system near the nuclear facility. While details are still sparse, some believe the ongoing incident could be a retaliatory attack by Iran on Israel’s sensitive facilities after their own nuclear facility in Natanz was sabotaged. If it is indeed a missile attack, it is most likely that it was fired by Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy situated closest to Israel, rather than from Gazan terror factions, who seldom tar...

The Baltimore factory contracted to make Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine was dirty, didn’t follow proper manufacturing procedures and had poorly trained staff, resulting in contamination of material that was going to be put in the shots, U.S. regulators said Wednesday. Agency inspectors said a batch of the bulk drug substance for J&J’s single-shot vaccine was contaminated with material used to make COVID-19 vaccines for another Emergent client, AstraZeneca.
