The Likud is planning to offer New Hope Party chairman Gideon Sa'ar an attractive package in exchange for him joining a right-wing government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, Channel 12 News reported on Friday. According to the report, Sa'ar will be offered the role of Deputy Prime Minister, the role of the Speaker of the Knesset will be offered to his party member Ze'ev Elkin, and he will also be offered many other ministerial portfolios. Until now, Netanyahu did not want to make such a generous offer to people who had left the Likud for fear that other Likud members would follow in Sa'ar's footsteps and leave the party, only to then extort Netanyahu. However, it appears that he now has no choice but to go down this path. Earlier on Friday, Netanyahu c...

President Biden on Saturday described the situation at the border as a "crisis" for the first time, as he defended his administration’s walkback on refugee policy a day earlier. "We’re going to increase the number [of refugees]," he told reporters. "The problem was that the refugee part was working on the crisis that ended up on the border with young people. We couldn’t do two things at once. The rhetoric that earned the president Four Pinocchios The stability of any democracy depends on the widespread perception of voters that if their candidates or views do not prevail in this election, they may well prevail in the next election. And that perception, in turn, requires that voters view the playing field as an even one. The very first piece of legislation passed by the Democratic majority of the House of Representatives — H.R. 1, titled the "For the People Act" — seeks to do just the opposite by nationalizing federal election law to an unprecedented degree, and making permanent a set of election procedures originally introduced in 2020 in response to COVID-19 and the fears of many voters of casting ballots in person. Those procedures would over time render in-pers...
Maryland's COVID-19 case spike is especially evident in Baltimore City, where the case rate is reaching levels not seen since January. For the fourth consecutive day, Maryland topped 1,000 new COVID-19 cases in a single day, and 16 people died in the past 24 hours from COVID-19 complications. Hospitalizations dipped slightly in the past day with 12 people leaving the state's hospitals; however, six more patients required intensive care treatment. The pace was steady Friday as people got at the M&T Bank Stadium COVID-19 mass vaccination site in downtown Baltimore. "I'm here now getting my second shot. Everyone should get their shot and stay safe," said Khaaliq Canada, who got vaccinated. The stadium site is one of two state-run mass vaccination sites in Baltimore Cit...
The Weekly Shtikle is dedicated le'iluy nishmas my Oma, Chaya Sara bas Zecharia Chaim, a"h. This week's shtikle is dedicated for a refuah sheleimah for my father. Please include Reuven Pinchas ben Yehudis in your tefillos. This year has already seen a number of unique circumstances in the calendar. Yet another consequence of this rare configuration is the fact that the 5th of Iyar, the anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel, lands on Shabbos. Of course, the actual commemoration is moved (as it is most years) to avoid chilul Shabbos. It seems the most glaring lesson to be gleaned actually comes from the haftarah – certainly one of the more captivating stories we read. The story of the haftarah has its own interes...

President Biden is facing a series of fresh obstacles in getting the coronavirus pandemic under control in the United States. Several states have seen an uptick in cases even as millions of Americans are vaccinated each day, which can be attributed in part to the lifting of restrictions on masks and businesses and general pandemic fatigue more than a year after the virus began to spread widely. More contagious variants are spreading throughout the country, and experts warn that new variants could pop up until the country reaches a greater degree of immunity.  Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events & more Join BJL on WhatsApp Groups: Click here to Join an official BJL WhatsApp group for breaking news as it happ...
