One in three people who overcome COVID-19 suffer from a neurological or psychiatric diagnosis six months on, according to the largest study so far published on the mental toll that long COVID takes on survivors.
Authors said the research, printed Wednesday in The Lancet Psychiatry journal, proved that COVID-19 patients were significantly more likely to develop brain conditions than those suffering from other respiratory tract infections.

Nahariya - On Tuesday night, United Hatzalah together in partnership with the Galilee Medical Center, security forces, and the Municipality of Nahariya, held a joint training exercise on the beach promenade in the southern part of the city. The purpose of the exercise was to train the first responders from all partnering organizations and the medical staff from the Hospital in responding to an imagined terror attack resulting in a mass-casualty incident on the promenade.
Dozens of EMTs and paramedics, as well as members of United Hatzalah’s Psychotrauma and Crisis Response Unit, participated in the surprise drill and provided medical care for the 30 plus people who were pretending to be injured in the incident. When the proposed New York State Executive Budget was released in late January, things did not look good for the nonpublic schools as represented by Agudath Israel and its coalition partners. The economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on the state's fiscal equilibrium, with multi-billion-dollar deficits anticipated. Virtually every funding stream available to yeshivas and other nonpublic schools was facing cuts from previous year's levels.

President Reuven (Ruvi) Rivlin spoke this evening, Wednesday 7 April / 25 Nissan, at the official ceremony opening Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day, at Yad Vashem. This year, the central theme of the ceremony was “Until the Very Last Jew: Eighty Years Since the Onset of Mass Annihilation”. As is customary, six Holocaust survivors lit torches in memory of the six million Jews who were killed in the Holocaust.

In categorizing kosher animals and fish, the Torah delineates the characteristics that make an animal or fish kosher. Does it chew its cud and have split hooves? Does it have fins and scales? So long as an animal or fish fits the criteria, it is considered kosher. The Torah does not list the names of specific animals or fish that “made the cut”, just the criteria. However, when it comes to birds, the Torah takes a very different approach.
Rather than list the avian characteristics that render a bird either kosher or non-kosher, the Torah lists twenty non-kosher species leaving every other species, by not being listed, to be considered kosher.

An Orthodox Jewish couple sued two New York City agencies that supervise affordable housing lotteries Tuesday, saying their family of eight faced religious discrimination when they were repeatedly rejected because of their family’s size.
In the Manhattan federal court lawsuit, Chaim Katz and Chana Katz maintain they faced discrimination from two affordable housing lotteries when they applied for a three-bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in 2017.

The Biden administration has distributed more than 150 million stimulus checks as of Wednesday from the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill.
The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service have sent out roughly 156 million payments to people, totaling roughly $372 billion, according to the Treasury Department.
The majority of these latest payments went to Social Security recipients and beneficiaries, providing a cash infusion more than a year into the pandemic.

The world’s Jewish population has returned to the level of nearly a century ago, according to new research published by Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.
Released ahead of Thursday’s observance of Yom Hashoah, Israel’s annual Holocaust commemoration day, the study revealed that at the end of 2019, the global Jewish population stood at 14.8 million — the same number recorded in 1925, more than a decade before the Nazi Holocaust began.

Canadian federal court has rejected Nazi death squad member Helmut Oberlander's request to permanently end his deportation proceedings.
A federal court in Canada has rejected a request by Helmut Oberlander, a 97-year old former Nazi death squad member to have his deportation proceedings permanently ended.
Oberlander’s lawyer had earlier in the year filed a motion to postpone a hearing that would have deported him from Canada.

UK stops providing AstaZeneca vaccine to people under 30 after EMA says vaccine has rare blood clot side effect.
The AstaZeneca coronavirus vaccine was found to cause rare blood clots, the European Medicines Agency ruled Wednesday.
EMA Executive Director Emer Cooke stated that this finding does not mean that the vaccine should not be used, as the side effect is extremely rare: "I want to start by stating that our safety committee the pharmacovigilance risk assessment committee of the European Medicines Agency has confirmed that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine in preventing COVID19 overall outweigh the risks of side effects.”

Longitudinal study finds that early life trauma can negatively impact long-term health outlook
A recently published long-term study has shown that the effects of psychological and physical trauma can have echoes and repercussions even decades after the events themselves.
Dr Iaroslav Youssim and Dr Hagit Hochner of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem's School of Public Health led the study, which was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology and investigated mortality rates from specific diseases over the course of many years among Israel-based Holocaust survivors.
