A top Health Ministry official warned on Wednesday that Israel is still "in the middle of the battle" against the coronavirus pandemic as she urged members of the public to remain vigilant despite the country's successful vaccination campaign.
Speaking to the Ynet site, Israel's top public health expert Sharon Alroy-Preis argued that "many external threats" still remain that could develop and destroy the progress Israel has made over the last several months.

With only two days remaining, the Israeli government has still not formulated a response to the International Criminal Court’s intention to probe alleged war crimes committed in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.
Recommendations submitted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Defense and Foreign Ministries, and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are still being debated but it remains unclear if Jerusalem will respond to the ICC.

Longitudinal study finds that early life trauma can negatively impact long-term health outlook
A recently published long-term study has shown that the effects of psychological and physical trauma can have echoes and repercussions even decades after the events themselves.
Dr Iaroslav Youssim and Dr Hagit Hochner of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem's School of Public Health led the study, which was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology and investigated mortality rates from specific diseases over the course of many years among Israel-based Holocaust survivors.

Yad Vashem runs exhibition following fates of Jewish families caught up in Nazi invasion in East Europe
Israel is set to commemorate the victims of the Nazi regime on Holocaust Remembrance Day on Wednesday and Thursday.
Wednesday evening will see an opening ceremony being at 8:00 pm local time -- 1:00 pm Eastern -- in Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.

Holocaust survivors forced to give up on items of necessity to be able to buy food
Holocaust survivors living in Israel are struggling to get by, a poll released on Wednesday by the Holocaust Survivors’ Welfare Fund reveals.
According to the fund, 51 percent of respondents said they had to rely on food handouts from various non-profits.
Over 30 percent described their need for such supplies as "dire."

In Forbes latest billionaires list, German-born Israeli businessman Stefan Wertheimer appears as the country's richest individual with a personal fortune of $6.2 billion. However, that amount only ranks him 432nd on the list.
There were three individuals with Israeli citizenship with wealth greater than Wertheimer's - Eyal Ofer ($11.1 billion), Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich ($14.5 billion) and Patrick Drahi ($11.8 billion) - however, they are not currently listed as resident in the country.

Many years ago I had the privilege to spend some time in the Zilberman school in Jerusalem's Old City. The Zilberman "method" is a unique system of education implemented throughout many schools worldwide. Tucked within the walls of the Jewish quarter sits their flagship elementary school, run by the sons of Rav Zilberman, Z"L. I spent 2 weeks there observing the classes, learning the method of teaching and consulting with the educators. During one recess, I witnessed an incident so beautiful that it is etched in my memory for time immemorial. European Union Ambassador to Israel Emanuele Giaufret and the 26 ambassadors to Israel of the EU members states issued a joint statement Wednesday to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The statement read: "The Delegation of the European Union to the State of Israel, together with the 26 Embassies of EU Member States present in Israel, remember today with a sense of deep responsibility the six million Jews brutally killed on European soil in the Holocaust, together with other victims of Nazism during the darkest hours of humankind."

Maheer Ibrahim, Muslim Arab who said 'Shema' with Jewish coronavirus patient, offered honor of lighting Independence Day torch.
Maheer Ibrahim, the head nurse of Afula's Ha'emek Medical Center's coronavirus ward, on Tuesday was informed by the Culture Ministry that he was chosen to light an Independence Day torch at the ceremony marking Israel's 73rd birthday.

0.5% of COVID tests are positive, as the number of coronavirus patients continues to fall, including 309 in serious condition.
A total of 303 new cases of the coronavirus were diagnosed across Israel Tuesday, according to data released by the Health Ministry Wednesday morning.
Just 0.5% of tests conducted Tuesday came back positive, down from 0.7% of tests carried out Monday. That is the lowest level recorded since May 24th last year, when the percentage of tests coming back positive hit 0.4%.

Foreigners continue to be largely banned from entering Israel.
Still, as reported yesterday, this morning, new rules went into effect, permitting more groups of foreign citizens to enter Israel. These groups include those coming for simchas (weddings, bar mitzvahs and births), medical emergencies, deaths and to visit lone soldiers. These groups were previously allowed to enter the country prior to the January lockdown.
However, an important new category of foreigners who will now be granted entry permits are those with first degree relatives living in Israel. It is still unclear if the relatives in Israel must be Israeli citizens or whether this also applies to relatives of student visa holders in Israel.

Suspect faces disciplinary action for posting anti-Semitic and white supremacist QR codes across campus of Florida university.
A student from the University of North Florida (UNF) is being investigated after allegedly posting around campus QR codes linked to anti-Semitic and white supremacist material.
QR codes are a type of square barcode holding unique information that when scanned by a phone open up a link.
Rabbi Shmuli Novack, the Director of Chabad of UNF, said that the university's police department let them know about the incident, reported Jacksonville news and talk station, 104.5 WOKV. He said that it is known that a student is currently being investigated by the university and faces disciplinary action.

The University of Pennsylvania announced it will not move its commencement from Shavuot to another date, refusing to take into account a petition which asks for the event to be moved to accommodate Jewish students who observe the holiday.
The petition was signed by more than 1,600 students and alumni. It asked that the university consider moving the commencement ceremony to another date.
