Recycling will resume in Baltimore City on a weekly basis, as planned, on January 19. Recycling was suspended at the end of August to allow crews to focus solely on trash collection during the COVID-19 pandemic. Collection routes may take longer to complete the first week due to expected large amounts of material. Residents are asked to bring as much as they can themselves to recycling centers to help with the initial collection. Currently, there are 220 curbside employees. DPW says it take 201 people to run the curbside operations.Read more at WBALTV

More Baltimore City School students are failing in virtual learning, according to Baltimore City Schools CEO Sonja Santelises. Santelises shared the new figures with the city school board commissioners during Tuesday night's meeting. She says they looked over the first quarter grades of 2019 and compared them to the first quarter of the new school year and found the numbers went up from 38% to 60% among students in grades six through 12. Ninth graders had the biggest percentage of students failing at least one class, according to Santelises. "Unfortunately, student grades and our assessments in the first quarter demonstrate that the actual learning loss and its subsequent effects on students' academic achievement was even more dramatic an...

Jerusalem — Despite efforts by its detractors, Israel has seen a steady improvement in its diplomatic standing around the world with breakthroughs in relations with Arab states, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Nevertheless, the United Nations, with its decades of anti-Israel hostility, remains a source of concern for the Jewish state. Indeed, recently the United States and Israel voted against the world body’s 2021 budget due to anti-Semitism and anti-Israel bias, particularly with regard to a planned follow-up event to the 2001 Durban Conference in South Africa, which was replete with anti-Semitic undertones. The rabbis noted the importance of curbing increasing political extremism, working together to negotiate bipartisan support for legislation, and making decisions in light of what is truly best for the country. “The current polarized state of politics is unsustainable for a civilized country, and both sides need to step back from the brink,” said Rabbi Steven Pruzansky, Regional Vice President of the CJV. “Whether or not President Trump intended that marc...
Much of our discontent derives from our struggle with the temporary nature of our existence.  The world is indeed “a narrow bridge”.  We sojourn here but for the blink of an eye.  This is the fundamental nature of our condition; we are visitors, we are strangers.  We struggle to conduct our lives as if we “belong”.  We tell ourselves that everything “will be all right.”   That we are not really “strangers.”  That this is our home. But we are strangers and we Jews, of all people, should appreciate how transient and vulnerable our existence can be.
