Election officials in Democratic strongholds of Pennsylvania ”exceeded their authority in order to give voters preferential treatment,” but their work was sloppy and lazy and the courts ”need to stop them from destroying more evidence,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich writes in a column for The Epoch Times. Gingrich, citing a Nov. 21 lawsuit filed in district court, said officials in certain counties used ”a variety of illegal practices that were used to inflate the number of votes received by Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden, including disparate treatment of voters based on where they live and outright manipulation of Pennsylvania’s voter registration system by partisan activities.” Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Joi...
Suspected North Korean hackers have tried to break into the systems of British drugmaker AstraZeneca in recent weeks, two people with knowledge of the matter told Reuters, as the company races to deploy its vaccine for the COVID-19 virus. The hackers posed as recruiters on networking site LinkedIn and WhatsApp to approach AstraZeneca staff with fake job offers, the sources said. They then sent documents purporting to be job descriptions that were laced with malicious code designed to gain access to a victim’s computer. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — President Donald Trump’s legal team suffered yet another defeat in court Friday as a federal appeals court in Philadelphia roundly rejected its latest effort to challenge the state’s election results. Trump’s lawyers vowed to appeal to the Supreme Court despite the judge’s assessment that the “campaign’s claims have no merit.” “Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy. Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here,” Judge Stephanos Bibas wrote for the three-judge panel. Join BJL on WhatsApp Status: Click here to Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events &...
COLUMBUS — A record number of ballots were cast in the 2020 Presidential election in Ohio, the majority of which were cast before Election Day even arrived Nov. 3. Final results showed 5,974,121 Ohioans cast ballots in this year’s election, breaking the previous record set in 2008, when 5,773,777 ballots were cast. “We blew past that this year,” LaRose said. This week’s parsha begins with Yaakov leaving Be’er Sheva for Choron – which immediately follows Yitzchok’s instructions at the end of last week’s parsha to find a wife from Rivka’s family. Superficially, it would seem that there is a seamless transition between the parshiyos with nothing happening in between. But Rashi tells us that 14 years actually passed between the two parshiyos. Before Yaakov went to Lovon’s house to get a wife, he stopped in Yeshivas Shem V’Ever and learned there for 14 years. This is quite puzzling. After all, Yaakov isn’t a young man. He is 63 and hasn’t yet started a family. Furthermore, what has Yaakov been doing all these years if not learning Torah from his father Yitzchok? So why does he have to now...
Compromise raised in order to avoid fourth Israeli elections in the span of two years The Likud and Blue and White parties are holding behind-the-scenes negotiations in order to find a compromise over the state budget and prevent another round of elections for parliament, which would be Israel’s fourth in two years, outlet N12 reported Friday. The report suggests that the compromise would see the government pass a budget for 2021 but will kill the rotation deal between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister and Alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz. As I am sitting shiva for my mother, a’h, it will be impossible for me to offer an original contribution of my weekly Dvar Torah this Shabbos. My mother was my biggest fan, dutifully reading each week an enlarged print version of my weekly offering over these past thirteen years. The loving pride she conveyed to me fueled my determination to maintain a streak of having not missed for 656 consecutive weeks. Until this Shabbos. Hashem in His infinite wisdom wants us at times to pause and reflect on how we got to our accomplishments in life. My mother was a talented writer, who was able to articulate profound ideas in a most exquisite manner. Her inspiration was never contrived but emanated from the purity of her emunah, and kind and sensitive soul. In 1994 my daughter requested o...
