Austin and Phoenix are also expected to make a faster economic recovery from the pandemic than other major U.S. cities, according to a labor-analytics report from software firm, ThinkWhy. Its LaborIQ ranking weighed such factors as working-age population growth, migration and education. Atlanta and Tampa round out the top five.

The number of US coronavirus cases surpassed 12 million Saturday -- an increase of more than 1 million cases in less than a week.
At least 12,044,934 cases have been confirmed, according to Johns Hopkins University data, and 255,541 Americans have died.
It's another horrific milestone in a month full of devastating Covid-19 records in the country.
Almost every state has reported a rapid surge in cases, and nationwide numbers have been climbing much faster than ever before -- with the country reporting a staggering 2.9 million infections since the beginning of the month.

An election challenge lawsuit planned to be filed early this week is new and will be “shocking,” according to President Donald Trump lawyer Jordan Sekulow on Newsmax TV.

President Trump and other Republicans spent Saturday repeating unproven claims of voter fraud in Michigan, stepping on the message of two top state lawmakers who visited the White House on Friday and later indicated that President-elect Joe Biden’s victory there will stand.
Trump sent out a pair of tweets pushing back on the message from Michigan state House Speaker Lee Chatfield (R) and state Senate President Mike Shirkey (R), both of whom met with the president and said afterward they “have not yet been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in Michigan.”

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp certified the state's presidential election results Friday in favor of President-elect Joe Biden -- but called for another audit of the votes.
Kemp told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution it was “completely unacceptable” that stashes of thousands of uncounted ballots were found in several counties during the manual hand recount after the initial results.

The U.S. military deployed B-52 bombers to the Middle East Saturday, just days after the Trump administration announced a partial withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan and Iraq.
U.S. Central Command said the U.S. Air Force B-52H “Stratofortress” aircrews conducted the mission on "short notice" to "deter aggression and reassure U.S. partners and allies."

President Trump said Saturday that his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was doing "very well" following his positive test for COVID-19.
A spokesperson for the president's son confirmed on Friday that Trump Jr. tested positive “at the start of the week” and has been quarantining. News of his diagnosis came hours after Andrew Giuliani, the son of Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and a White House staffer, announced that he tested positive for the virus.
“My son is doing very well. Thank you!” Trump wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

Gov. Larry Hogan announced that Maryland has reached a new daily high of 51,510 COVID-19 tests. Prior to Saturday, the state’s previous record high was 43,969 test results.
On Saturday, the Maryland Department of Health reported 2,885 new cases of COVID-19, adding to a current total of 177,887 confirmed cases and 16 new deaths. The total of confirmed deaths is 4,261. There has been a major coronavirus outbreak aboard a US Navy guided missile destroyer, the USS Michael Murphy, which has spread to nearly one-quarter of the ship’s 300 strong-crew, according to two US Navy officials.
The ship has been in port in Hawaii so there has been limited operational impact due to the outbreak.

Cathy Russell, who was Jill Biden’s chief of staff during the Obama administration, will serve as director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, evaluating applicants for administration roles. Louisa Terrell, who served as a legislative adviser to the president in the Obama administration and worked as deputy chief of staff for Biden in the Senate, will be director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs. Terrell has already been engaged in Capitol Hill outreach as part of Biden’s transition team.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday announced a one-month curfew to combat the rising spread of COVID-19.
Newsom tweeted that the curfew would go into effect Saturday beginning at 10 p.m. and last for the next month. Gatherings and nonessential work will be prohibited from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. in purple-tier counties.
