If your heart goes pitter-patter for diet beverages, it may not be due to love. Artificially sweetened beverages, a new study has found, may be just as bad for your heart as the sugar-laden kind. "Our study suggests artificially sweetened beverages may not be a healthy substitute for sugar drinks, and these data provide additional arguments to fuel the current debate on taxes, labeling and regulation of sugary drinks and artificially sweetened beverages," said lead author Eloi Chazelas, a doctoral student and member of the nutritional epidemiology research team at the Sorbonne Paris Nord University, in a statement. Independent Bob Wallace outspends Democrat Brandon Scott in Baltimore mayor's race, reports show In the race for Baltimore mayor, new campaign finance reports show Independent candidate Bob Wallace has outspent Democrat Brandon Scott in the months leading up the Nov. 3 election. It is an unusual development in a city where the winner of the Democratic primary rarely has much of any competition in the general election. The mayor's race is usually a sleeper on the November ballot as Democrats in Baltimore have that much of an edge in registered voters.Join BJL status for engagements, births, deals, levayos, events & more:  https://bit.ly/32HUBnJ Join an official BJL WhatsApp group for breaking news as it happens: https://bit.ly/3aYxo4v But this year, the cit...
The effects of one hour can last for a lifetime. Bnos One on One is an incredible program from Bnos Agudas Yisroel that pairs high school Big Sisters with middle school Little Sisters. Big Sisters meet with their 6th, 7th, or 8th grade Little Sisters for one hour a week to connect and have fun. The Bnos One on One program has been running for years, but this year it’s seeing extraordinary growth. Cities like Atlanta, Chicago, and Boston, and more are starting new chapters. And existing branches in Brooklyn, Five Towns, and Lakewood are expanding. Why the dramatic increase? “It’s a perfect program for this year,” explains Bnos advisor Miri S. “Our Bnos activities are restricted because of Corona. We’re doing Bnos in a Box, but we knew we could do e...
Bereishis 12:7 says that Avraham built a mizbeach to Hashem. Rashi explains that he was saying thanks for the fact that he was told that he will have children and get Eretz Yisroel. The Ramban says that this was a korban Toda. The question is; why didn’t Avraham bring a Toda when was saved from the fires of Kasdim, when Numrod threw him into the fire?  The answer is that the Mechilta in Parshas Bo 1:4 says that until Yerushalayim was chosen as the location for the Bais Hamikdosh one was able to bring a korban anywhere in Eretz Yisroel. This would be the reason Avraham could not bring a toda for being saved from the ...

We can return to the explosive job creation, rising wages and general prosperity we had before the pandemic. We can have economic freedom and opportunity, and resist cancel culture and censorship. We can put annus horribilis, 2020, behind us and make America great again, again. We can do all this — if we make the right choice on Nov. 3. The New York Post endorses President Donald J. Trump for re-election. Elections are always about the economy, but never more so than this year. So a reminder: Until the necessary shutdown to fight the coronavirus, the unemployment rate stood at 3.5 percent, the lowest in a half-century. African American unemployment was 6.8 percent, the lowest figure since 1972. Adults out of the workforce for years found new prospects; for 17 mon...
Scientists have gathered some of the most compelling evidence yet for the existence of water on the moon – and it may be relatively accessible. The discovery has implications for future missions to the moon and deeper space exploration. With no significant atmosphere insulating it from the sun’s rays, it had been assumed that the moon’s surface was dry – until the 1990s, when orbiting spacecraft found indications of ice in large and inaccessible craters near the moon’s poles. The existence of water has implications for future lunar missions because it could be treated and used for drinking; separated into hydrogen and oxygen for use as a rocket propellant, and the oxygen could be used for breathing.
