British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca on Monday said its potential Covid-19 vaccine has produced a similar immune response in older and younger adults.
AstraZeneca, which is developing its potential Covid-19 vaccine in collaboration with the University of Oxford, said adverse responses to the vaccine among the elderly were also found to be lower.
The World Health Organization has said that older people, in addition to people of all ages with preexisting medical conditions, appear to develop serious illness on contracting the coronavirus more often than others.

A four-month investigative report by Newsweek found that roughly 600 groups are engaging in a widespread meddling campaign tied to the Chinese Communist Party and seeking to influence the U.S. well beyond next Tuesday’s election.

President Donald Trump could focus his remaining campaign days on the coronavirus, his successes with the economy, and on the “corruption” that has been revealed about the Democratic Party’s nominee Joe Biden and his family, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Monday.
If Trump focuses on those three topics, “he will win a surprisingly big election,” Gingrich said on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends.”
“It’s very simple,” Gingrich said. “He’s got to win the argument that what we have done on COVID has worked. Look, Spain just went into an emergency shutdown until next April. Italy has announced no restaurants…Trump has done a much better job than these other countries.”

Joe Biden said Saturday that Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump’s choice to succeed liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg, wants to overturn Obamacare.
A number of Democratic senators pressed Barrett about her stance on the Affordable Care Act during confirmation hearings, but she refused to give any indication of how she might rule.

Tens of thousands of residents in Southern California were ordered to evacuate on Monday as a wildfire exploded while the region faced gusty Santa Ana Winds.
The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) said that mandatory evacuations were issued in the Irvine area due to the Silverado Fire. The blaze started around 6:47 a.m in the area of Santiago Canyon Road and was reported to be around 10 acres, according to the city of Irvine.
“The fire started in Silverado Canyon, and helicopters and fixed wing aircraft are on the way,” Irvine Mayor Christina Shea said in a news release. “The wind is making it move very quickly.”

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas will administer the official constitutional oath to Judge Amy Coney Barrett on Monday night if she is confirmed by the Senate, a senior White House official told Fox News.

Stocks ended the Monday session sharply lower as traders expressed concerns on whether U.S. lawmakers would pass another fiscal stimulus bill to support the economy and as Europe put additional restrictions in place to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 650 points, clawing back from session lows of over 950 points or nearly 3%.
Meanwhile, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite sank 1.8% and 1.6%, respectively. It marked the worst day since September for both.

London-based Institute for Jewish Policy Research puts the Jewish population of the continent, including Britain, Russia and Turkey, at the same number cited by famed traveler Benjamin of Tudela in 1170.
The number of Jews in Europe, including Britain, Turkey and Russia, has fallen to a 1,000-year low, according to a new study conducted by the Institute for Jewish Policy Research in London and published on Sunday.
According to the study, only 1.3 million people currently live in Europe who define themselves as Jews. This is the same number counted by famous Jewish traveler and scholar Benjamin of Tudela in 1170.

President Donald Trump’s approval numbers edged up to 52% on Monday, just eight days before Election Day, according to the daily poll released by Rasmussen Reports.
Forty-six percent disapproved of the job Trump is doing as president.
The president’s approval numbers have not been higher since they hit 53% for one day just over a month ago on Sept. 18, a figure that was previously last matched on April 9, 2019.
Rasmussen Reports has generally reported higher approval numbers for Trump than most of the major surveys, which do not conduct their polls on a daily basis.
