BROOKLYN (VINnews/Sandy Eller) – A light hearted joke made during roll call at a Monday night Zoom meeting of the Brooklyn Democratic Party had one committee member going on the offensive and bashing stereotypes about the Chasidic community.
David Schwartz, one of two committee members representing Brooklyn’s 48th Assembly District in the party and the only Chasidic member of the group, was late to roll call for the meeting, prompting one individual to suggest that perhaps he was attending a “10,000 man wedding,” referring to the marriage of the grandson of the Satmar Rebbe, Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, which was inaccurately described by the media as a 10,000 person event.

Covid-19 is likely to become as “endemic” as the annual flu virus, according to the U.K.’s chief scientific advisor.
“We can’t be certain, but I think it’s unlikely we will end up with a truly sterilizing vaccine, (that is) something that completely stops infection, and it’s likely this disease will circulate and be endemic, that’s my best assessment,” Patrick Vallance told the National Security Strategy Committee in London on Monday.

The Pentagon has raised to $95.8 billion the estimated cost of fielding a new fleet of land-based nuclear missiles to replace the Minuteman 3 arsenal that has operated continuously for 50 years, officials said Monday.

Residents of the D.C. area may spot helicopters flying at rather low altitudes above the city and surrounding region ahead of the presidential inauguration.
The helicopters are part of a Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) fleet of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) that “will measure naturally occurring background radiation” to help ensure public safety at the day’s events, according to a press release. Inauguration Day is Jan. 20.

One rocket launched at Israel's south after IDF reveals terrorist tunnel crossing into Jewish state's south
Red alert sirens went off late Tuesday in the communities in the vicinity of the kibbutz of Nachal Oz in Israel's south, next to the Gaza Strip.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was looking into the situation. Minutes after the alert, the army confirmed a successful interception of a projectile launched out of Gaza.
The incident comes after the IDF revealed a terrorist tunnel dug from Khan Younis in Gaza's south into Israel.
The structure was dug several dozen meters below the ground and crossed into the Israeli territory, hitting the underground concrete security barrier. Read more at I24

The United Nations said Monday it would stockpile one billion syringes around the world by the end of 2021, to be used for the delivery of any future coronavirus vaccine.
UNICEF, the UN Children’s Fund, said it aims to get 520 million syringes in its warehouses by the end of this year, to guarantee an initial supply in countries ahead of the vaccine.
