The United States has entered an agreement with drugmaker Moderna Inc. to acquire 100 million doses of its potential COVID-19 vaccine for around $1.5 billion, the company and White House said Tuesday. The United States in recent weeks has made deals to acquire hundreds of millions of doses of potential COVID-19 vaccines from several companies as part of its Operation Warp Speed program, which aims to deliver a vaccine in the country by the end of the year. Moderna’s price per dose comes to around $30.50 per person for a two dose regimen. With the exception of its deal with AstraZeneca, which offered a lower price per drug in exchange for upfront research and development costs, all the deals price COVID-19 vaccines between $20 to $42 for a two dose course of treatment. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) fended off a primary challenge from Antone Melton-Meaux in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District on Tuesday, making her the latest member of the so-called squad to win renomination.  The Associated Press called the race for Omar, who garnered 57 percent of the vote to Melton-Meaux’s 39 percent. Omar will face Lacy Johnson in November after he easily won the GOP primary Tuesday.  Omar wasn’t the only member of the squad — a group of four progressive women of color in Congress — to overcome a primary challenge this year. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) also beat out Democratic rivals this summer. But Omar faced perhaps the toughest challenge of any of th...
As the campaign for President Donald Trump is quick to call newly selected vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris a “phony,” records show the president and his daughter Ivanka donated thousands of dollars to the former California attorney general’s re-election effort. California campaign donation records show Trump gave money to the 2011 and 2014 attorney general campaigns for Harris. Trump first donated $5,000 in September 2011 and $1,000 in February 2013. In June 2014, Ivanka, a White House senior advisor, donated $2,000 to the re-election campaign for Harris. On July 29, Trump called Harris “a fine choice” if presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden had chosen her as a running mate. Read more at NEWSMAX.

As it conducts its mission to defend southern Israeli communities and vital strategic sites, the Israel Navy is also engaged in a quiet arms race with Israel’s adversaries in the Gaza Strip—namely, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. A senior IDF source told JNS about the ongoing activities of the Ashdod Naval Base, which is responsible for a substantial part of Israel’s coastal waters, stretching from central Israel to southern Gaza. This area of jurisdiction, known as the Ashdod Arena, sees naval vessels securing Israel’s borders and keeping a watchful eyes on developing threats, explained the source. “We also guard our strategic assets, such as the [offshore] gas rigs and natural-gas production facilities—the whole complex coastal area.” The...
Police in Harrisburg, Pa., are investigating the vandalism of a local shul. Swastikas were spray-painted on the exterior of Kesher Israel Synagogue, an Orthodox congregation. The graffiti was removed shortly after it was found on Monday. “Nobody wants to think of their spiritual home, where they go for a peaceful religious experience, to gain inspiration, as being attacked and vandalized at night, but thank God nobody was hurt,” the synagogue’s rabbi, Elisha Friedman, told CBS affiliate WHP-TV. Law enforcement and the FBI are looking into the incident. Democratic State Rep. Patty Kim responded harshly to the incident. “Graffiti and vandalism will not be tolerated and I reject the hatred these symbols represent. While this may be an isolated incid...

A mysterious string of fires and explosions at military and industrial sites across Iran in recent weeks has led to wide speculation over whether these incidents are mere coincidence or purposeful sabotage by a foreign entity. And if it is indeed the latter, the question is who and why, and will Iran attempt to retaliate? Farzin Nadimi, an associate fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, told JNS the recent series of strange accidents in Iran “were a mixture of industrial mishaps” and “suspected cyberattacks.” The Natanz explosion, for example, was “apparently concluded as a bomb blast caused by an infiltrator or infiltrators.” Nadimi said Iranian officials are not willing to talk about it just yet “because they’re still l...
The Directorate of Security for the Defense Establishment in cooperation with additional security institutions, has thwarted a cyber-attack targeting Israel's leading defense industries. Following an investigation of the case, it has been discovered that the attempted cyber-attack was conducted by an international cyber group called "Lazarus” - an organization that is backed by a foreign country. Members of the group used various hacking techniques, including 'social engineering' and impersonation. They built fake profiles on Linkedin, a social network that is used primarily for job searches in the high-tech sector. The attackers impersonated managers, CEOs and leading officials in HR departments, as well as representatives of international companies, and contacted e...
U.S. equity markets rallied Wednesday, getting back on track after a late-day selloff during the prior session snapped the S&P 500’s longest winning streak in 16 months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 258 points, or 0.93 percent, in the opening minutes of trading while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.87 percent and 0.92 percent, respectively. Rallies on both the Dow and the S&P were interrupted after seven days of gains on Tuesday when Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said the White House and top Democratic leaders did not hold COVID-19 relief talks that day. Looking at stocks, Tesla, Inc. announced a 5-for-1 stock split that will be distributed at the close of trading on August 28. Shares of the electric-car ma...
Portland’s top newspaper reported Tuesday that after weeks of unrest in the city’s downtown, the “main action” appears to have shifted to neighborhoods just outside the city, prompting residents to post their concerns on various Internet forums. The Oregonian reported that protests in the city are approaching their 80th consecutive night and residents are taking to online platforms like Reddit to post their growing safety concerns. One poster who apparently lives in the Kenton neighborhood, wrote, “Lots of people worked hard to make our little neighborhood pleasant and to help local businesses stay open. Now it’s trashed. This was not a BLM [Black Lives Matter] protest, this was a tantrum by a bunch of entitled kids.” Re...
The investigation continues after Monday's gas explosion that destroyed three row homes and left two dead in Northwest Baltimore. In a statement, Baltimore Gas and Electric says gas lines feeding the houses were not leaking and no leaks had been reported in the area in the last five years. The statement goes on to say that the gas and electricity data is indicative of some type of issue beyond the BGE meter on customer-owned equipment. That data has been provided to the Baltimore City Fire Department and is currently being analyzed by investigators. BGE says it is checking for broken supply lines or faulty appliances like stoves or hot water heaters.  A woman died in the blast on Labyrinth Road along with 20-year-old Morgan State University student Joseph Graham Jr., who ...
Jewish and Israel-related groups expressed mixed reactions to the presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, picking Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) as his running mate. Organizations from the Democratic Majority for Israel to J Street praised the selection of Harris, who would be the first African-American and South Asian to be picked as a running mate for a major-party candidate. She would also be the third woman tapped for the vice-presidential slot, following former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in 2008 and Rep. Geraldine Ferraro (D-N.Y.) in 1984. “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the perfect team to restore the soul of this nation, to stop [U.S.] President [Donald] Trump’s hateful agenda, and to strengthen American leadership and ...
About 75% of Americans are eligible to vote by mail in November’s presidential election — the most in history — according to a report in The New York Times on Tuesday. The organization’s analysis said that if election turnout increases in accordance with predictions, about 80 million mail ballots would be sent to election offices this fall, a figure that is more than double the number of ballots that were returned four years ago. The first B-21 stealth bomber test aircraft is “starting to look like an airplane” as parts arrive, suppliers integrate technologies and production surges forward. The military’s new-generation of stealth technology will usher in a new era in long-range strike options as the B-21 comes online. The ultimate purpose of the aircraft was described by Defense Secretary Mark Esper during a recent visit to Northrop Grumman’s design and development headquarters in Melbourne, Florida. “The B-21 brings the ability to strike any target anywhere is the ultimate strategic deterrent and the B-21 Raider will bring that capability,” Esper said, according to an Air Force report. By all accounts, the program is on track to deliver within just the next few years, p...
Religious voters may disagree with President Trump’s rhetoric and tone, but Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden “is not an option” for them in the 2020 election Fox News contributor Mike Huckabee said Sunday. “The Democratic Party has been slowly moving further and further to the left on issues that matter to many believers such as Israel, abortion, traditional marriage,” Huckabee told “Fox & Friends Weekend.” Read more at Fox News.
