A mysterious string of fires and explosions at military and industrial sites across Iran in recent weeks has led to wide speculation over whether these incidents are mere coincidence or purposeful sabotage by a foreign entity. And if it is indeed the latter, the question is who and why, and will Iran attempt to retaliate? Farzin Nadimi, an associate fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, told JNS the recent series of strange accidents in Iran “were a mixture of industrial mishaps” and “suspected cyberattacks.” The Natanz explosion, for example, was “apparently concluded as a bomb blast caused by an infiltrator or infiltrators.” Nadimi said Iranian officials are not willing to talk about it just yet “because they’re still l...
The Directorate of Security for the Defense Establishment in cooperation with additional security institutions, has thwarted a cyber-attack targeting Israel's leading defense industries. Following an investigation of the case, it has been discovered that the attempted cyber-attack was conducted by an international cyber group called "Lazarus” - an organization that is backed by a foreign country. Members of the group used various hacking techniques, including 'social engineering' and impersonation. They built fake profiles on Linkedin, a social network that is used primarily for job searches in the high-tech sector. The attackers impersonated managers, CEOs and leading officials in HR departments, as well as representatives of international companies, and contacted e...
U.S. equity markets rallied Wednesday, getting back on track after a late-day selloff during the prior session snapped the S&P 500’s longest winning streak in 16 months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 258 points, or 0.93 percent, in the opening minutes of trading while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.87 percent and 0.92 percent, respectively. Rallies on both the Dow and the S&P were interrupted after seven days of gains on Tuesday when Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said the White House and top Democratic leaders did not hold COVID-19 relief talks that day. Looking at stocks, Tesla, Inc. announced a 5-for-1 stock split that will be distributed at the close of trading on August 28. Shares of the electric-car ma...
Portland’s top newspaper reported Tuesday that after weeks of unrest in the city’s downtown, the “main action” appears to have shifted to neighborhoods just outside the city, prompting residents to post their concerns on various Internet forums. The Oregonian reported that protests in the city are approaching their 80th consecutive night and residents are taking to online platforms like Reddit to post their growing safety concerns. One poster who apparently lives in the Kenton neighborhood, wrote, “Lots of people worked hard to make our little neighborhood pleasant and to help local businesses stay open. Now it’s trashed. This was not a BLM [Black Lives Matter] protest, this was a tantrum by a bunch of entitled kids.” Re...
The investigation continues after Monday's gas explosion that destroyed three row homes and left two dead in Northwest Baltimore. In a statement, Baltimore Gas and Electric says gas lines feeding the houses were not leaking and no leaks had been reported in the area in the last five years. The statement goes on to say that the gas and electricity data is indicative of some type of issue beyond the BGE meter on customer-owned equipment. That data has been provided to the Baltimore City Fire Department and is currently being analyzed by investigators. BGE says it is checking for broken supply lines or faulty appliances like stoves or hot water heaters.  A woman died in the blast on Labyrinth Road along with 20-year-old Morgan State University student Joseph Graham Jr., who ...
Jewish and Israel-related groups expressed mixed reactions to the presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, picking Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) as his running mate. Organizations from the Democratic Majority for Israel to J Street praised the selection of Harris, who would be the first African-American and South Asian to be picked as a running mate for a major-party candidate. She would also be the third woman tapped for the vice-presidential slot, following former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in 2008 and Rep. Geraldine Ferraro (D-N.Y.) in 1984. “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the perfect team to restore the soul of this nation, to stop [U.S.] President [Donald] Trump’s hateful agenda, and to strengthen American leadership and ...
About 75% of Americans are eligible to vote by mail in November’s presidential election — the most in history — according to a report in The New York Times on Tuesday. The organization’s analysis said that if election turnout increases in accordance with predictions, about 80 million mail ballots would be sent to election offices this fall, a figure that is more than double the number of ballots that were returned four years ago. The first B-21 stealth bomber test aircraft is “starting to look like an airplane” as parts arrive, suppliers integrate technologies and production surges forward. The military’s new-generation of stealth technology will usher in a new era in long-range strike options as the B-21 comes online. The ultimate purpose of the aircraft was described by Defense Secretary Mark Esper during a recent visit to Northrop Grumman’s design and development headquarters in Melbourne, Florida. “The B-21 brings the ability to strike any target anywhere is the ultimate strategic deterrent and the B-21 Raider will bring that capability,” Esper said, according to an Air Force report. By all accounts, the program is on track to deliver within just the next few years, p...

“The IDF views any terror activity against Israel with great severity and will continue operating as necessary against attempts to harm Israeli civilians,” the IDF said. IDF fighter jets, attack helicopters and tanks struck a number of Hamas terror targets in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. During the strike a military compound, underground infrastructures and observation posts belonging to the Hamas terror organization were hit. “The IDF views any terror activity against Israel with great severity and will continue operating as necessary against attempts to harm Israeli civilians,” the IDF said. Israel’s attack came in response to new wave of explosive balloons launched from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory. The balloons began last Thursday, and after a l...

His grandmothers' emotions are cycling between extreme sadness, anger and confusion. As reported by WBAL-TV 11, Graham's grandmothers are leaning on each other, under the weight of unimaginable grief. "He had so many dreams and aspirations. It's just heartbreaking,” said Cynthia Young, Graham’s grandmother. “He did everything right, everything right. That's why it's such a shock. A federal appeals court on Tuesday appeared unsympathetic to arguments that it should order a district court judge to dismiss criminal charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn. The full D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals reheard oral arguments about how the Flynn case should proceed at the lower court after the Department of Justice (DOJ) suddenly moved to withdraw its case against the former adviser to President Trump. Most of the judges appeared concerned with an earlier decision from a divided three-judge circuit panel that would have forced the district court to approve the DOJ’s motion without holding a hearing. The administration of President Donald Trump is considering a measure to block U.S. citizens and permanent residents from returning home if they are suspected of being infected with the new coronavirus, a senior U.S. official confirmed to Reuters. The official said a draft regulation, which has not been finalized and could change, would give the government authorization to block individuals who could “reasonably” be believed to have contracted COVID-19 or other diseases. Trump has instituted a series of sweeping immigration restrictions since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, suspending some legal immigration and allowing U.S. border authorities to rapidly deport migrants caught at the border without standard legal processes. One of the New York Police Department’s highest-ranking women has quit the force and is suing her employer of more than three decades, alleging that it prevents women from rising to the top. Lori Pollock, who was the department’s first female chief of Crime Control Strategies, says she was forced to retire last week after being moved to head the Office of Collaborative Policing—a role she considered to be a demotion. On Monday, Pollock filed a federal gender-discrimination lawsuit accusing the police commissioner of holding female employees back. Pollock alleges that “intolerable, difficult and unpleasant” working conditions prevent women officers from being considered for “the most prestigious executive positions within the NYPD,” according to AB...
