JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In the wake of the steep rise in authenticated cases of COVID-19 in Israel, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein declared Wednesday that unless there is a miracle, Israel is on the way to a second total lockdown. Edelstein set 2000 infections per day as the maximum point at which Israel will have to initiate a renewed lockdown. The past day saw an unprecedented 1,718 positive diagnoses and Edelstein is pessimistic: “What we are looking at is a synthesis of factors. If we reach 2000 new cases a day and a continuation of the worrying increase in seriously ill patients and patients on respirators, as hospitals inform us that they are stopping elective surgeries- then we will have to come to harsh consequences,” Edelstein told Ynet. Edelstein criticized fel...
TEHRAN (JNS) – The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force, Maj. Gen. Esmail Ghaani, said on Tuesday that “tough times” await Israel and the United States. Ghaani’s remarks broke the Iranian regime’s silence regarding a series of explosions that have recently occurred at Iranian industrial facilities. “Tough times lie ahead for the United States and the Zionist regime. Major events are about to strike you,” said Ghaani, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency. The Quds Force commander hinted that a fire that broke out Sunday on the amphibious assault vessel USS Bonhomme Richard in San Diego was Iranian retaliation for the recent blasts. “The Americans should not look for who is responsible for what ...
ALBANY (VINnews) — In a statement issued on Wednesday by the head of the New York State Troopers PBA, “demanded” that state troopers be removed from New York City “and cease any law enforcement activities within that jurisdiction.” “We have arrived at this unfortunate decision due to the hastily written so-called police reform legislation recently passed by the New York City Council,” wrote PBA President Thomas H. Mungeer in his statement. “This poorly conceived bill, which will be signed into law by Mayor de Blasio today, puts an undue burden upon our troopers; it opens them up to criminal and civil liability for restraining a person during a lawful arrest in a manner that is consistent with their training and is legal throughout ...

The Trump administration is poised to ask governors to consider sending in the National Guard to hospitals to help improve data collection about coronavirus patients, supplies and capacity, according to draft letters, internal emails and hospital industry officials familiar with the plans. A letter, to be sent to governors imminently, backs away from earlier drafts that had directed state leaders to deploy the National Guard to help hospitals with daily data submissions. It now includes the National Guard among states’ options for improving the data flow, according to two senior administration officials and one industry official who was informed Monday about the final version. Still, even the possibility of National Guard involvement has infuriated hospital industry leaders, who sa...
The Land of Israel Caucus of the Knesset proposed a bill on Monday to apply sovereignty to all Jewish communities in Yehuda and Shomron, not just the 30 percent laid out in U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Peace to Prosperity” plan. The Caucus is a large lobby group made up of right-wing coalition and opposition lawmakers. According to a Channel 12 report, the bill—presented by members of Knesset Haim Katz (Likud) and Bezalel Smotrich (Yamina)—seeks to “create a mechanism for the preservation of non-sovereign territory, and for the prevention of Arab or international takeover” of territories in Area C [that the Oslo Accords determined would gradually be transferred to Palestinian jurisdiction] outside the “sovereignty map.” “The ...
Yerushalayim has started construction on parts of an NIS 3 billion (approximately $870 million) major highway that will eventually serve as a ring road around Israel’s largest city, with the goal of significantly alleviating traffic throughout the capital. At the same time, planners hope that the project will provide easier access for those entering or passing through the city from all sides. Construction has already commenced on the southern and central sections of the Eastern spur of the highway, which consists of a three-pronged, 10-kilometer (6.2 miles) stretch of pavement known as “The American Road.” When fully completed, the road, which will include bridges and tunnels, will stretch from the Arab neighborhood of Tzur Baher in the southeast to the Naomi Shemer Tunn...
The United States is being ravaged by a deadly pandemic that is growing exponentially, overwhelming health care systems and costing thousands of lives, to say nothing of an economic recession that threatens to plague the nation for years to come. But the American public seems to be over the pandemic, eager to get kids back in schools, ready to hit the bar scene and hungry for Major League Baseball to play its abbreviated season. The startling divergence between the brutal reality of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the fantasy land of a forthcoming return to normalcy has public health experts depressed and anxious about what is to come. The worst is not behind us, they say, by any stretch of the imagination. “It’s an absolute disconnect between our perceived reality and our actual r...

Jeff Sessions’ political career lay in ruins Tuesday night. From the White House, President Trump tweeted his delight that his former Justice Department chief lost out to his preferred candidate, former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville, in Alabama’s runoff U.S. Senate primary election. Sessions, meanwhile, only had warm words for the president. “Let me say this about the president and our relationship. I leave with no regrets,” the 73-year-old said. “I was honored to serve the people of Alabama in the Senate and I was extraordinarily proud of the accomplishments we had as attorney general… I took the road less traveled, didn’t try to excuse myself or get in a fight or undermine the leader of our country and the great wo...

It never ends!! If it's not one thing, it's another. At the tail end of his life, having weathered forty years of complaints, rebellions, and near-disasters, Moshe had every reason to expect a tranquil conclusion to his legendary career. Having appointed his successor and eased the Jewish people to the border of Israel, he can now focus on writing the final book of the Torah. The new generation, which would ultimately inherit the land of Israel had been counted, the 'lottery' mechanism for land allocation had been established and, finally, the order of family inheritance had been institutionalized. Everything was ready for the final and long-awaited entry into the promised land….until it wasn't!! Two and a half tribes approach Moshe proposing settlement on ...

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was sued on Monday for failing to provide an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter during his press conferences and televised briefings regarding the coronavirus pandemic and the current hurricane season. Disability Rights Florida, the National Association of the Deaf and four deaf and hard of hearing Floridians filed a complaint to a federal judge accusing DeSantis of violating the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The complaint states that there have been at least 48 instances since March 2 where DeSantis has discussed pandemic-related information such as school and business closures, testing, social distancing and other safety precautions without an in-frame ASL interpreter. Today Moderna published the data on Phase 1 clinical safety trials on 45 adults. It looks like two doses per season will be the established dose approximately one month apart . The 100 microgram dose appears to have elicited very good neutralizing antibody response with minimal immediate side effects. Phase 2 studies looking at 600 adults will likely be reported on in the next 4-6 weeks. The company is initiating Phase 3 trials on 30,000 individuals after July 27, 2020. This will be the most critical phase in order to see how the vaccine protects in actual exposed populations during an outbreak. The post Phase 3 observation period is expected to go on for several months in order to ensure safety as discussed previously. At that point if the current progress continues , the FDA w...
