BEAR MOUNTAIN (VINnews) — In today’s day and age, as technology gets more and more sophisticated, the situations in which we find ourselves at a technological disadvantage are becoming increasingly rare. That’s why the communities in Rockland and Orange Counties have been trying to figure out why Verizon is not heeding their request for a much needed cellular tower to provide service for the Bear Mountain area along the Palisades Interstate Parkway. This has been a critical safety issue cited by community leaders for the past 25 years. Kiryas Joel Hatzalah often would send ambulances to that area for emergencies, but once they arrive it is often next to impossible to identify the caller, since there is no cell service. Local lawmakers and EMS personnel gathered at the ...
The White House is moving to take more direct control over pardons and commutations, with President Donald Trump aiming to limit the role of the Justice Department in the clemency process as he weighs a flurry of additional pardon announcements, according to people familiar with the matter. Trump, who granted clemency Tuesday to a group of 11 people that included several political allies and supporters, has assembled a team of advisers to recommend and vet candidates for pardons, according to several people with knowledge of the matter who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The group, essentially an informal task force of at least a half-dozen presidential allies, has been meeting since late last year to discuss a revamped pardon system i...
A day after President Donald Trump issued executive clemency to 11 people including former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, another potential Trump pardon is in the news, this one for Julian Assange. Assange’s lawyers claimed in a London court Wednesday that they would provide evidence that then-Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., promised Assange a pardon or some other favor related to a U.S. prosecution if he provided information absolving Russia of responsibility for hacking Democratic Party emails in 2016. Assange’s lawyer, Edward Fitzgerald, said he had a statement from another Assange lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, that shows “Mr. Rohrabacher going to see Mr. Assange and saying, on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr. ...
In what is being dubbed as a historical development, Israel’s Transportation Ministry announced this week that is it moving forward with plans to extend the new Tel Aviv-Yerushalayim high-speed rail line in order to connect Ben-Gurion International Airport directly to the Kosel. The new route for the railway extension was approved by the National Planning and Construction Commission. It will feature a 1.8-mile underground tunnel with two new stations, including one adjacent to the Khan Theatre Complex in downtown Yerushalayim and the other inside the Old City. Transportation Minister Bezalel Smotrich hailed the announcement, saying the new line would help ease Israel’s transportation crisis. In fact, recent studies show that Israel suffers the worst traffic congestion out of ...
Israel’s Health Ministry is preparing for the possibility of the SARS-CoV-2 virus arriving in the country, and has drawn up a plan to treat patients and prevent the spread of the virus. While no cases have been reported in Israel, a plan is in place to set up isolation units in established hospitals, staffed by disease-control experts in the event of an outbreak, according to Israel’s Channel 12 news. If these units are not sufficient to contain the outbreak, the plan calls for a hospital in Jerusalem and another in Tel Aviv to be commandeered for the exclusive treatment of coronavirus patients, according to the report. The ministry will also reportedly consider shutting down hotels and tourist sites, as well as imposing restrictions on large gatherings. A group of 12 Israel...
Emgage PAC, which calls itself the biggest Muslim political action committee in the country, is throwing its weight behind Bernie Sanders. The organization, which has chapters and affiliates in 11 states, is the latest in a series of high-profile Muslim groups and elected officials that have endorsed the Vermont senator. Wa’el Alzayat, CEO of Emgage Action, said Sanders is popular among Muslim voters because of his health care plan, criminal justice proposals, and environmental policy. He also noted his international affairs platform and record of supporting Palestinian rights. “More than any other presidential candidate, Sen. Sanders has built a historically inclusive and forward-thinking movement: one that represents America as a set of ideas grounded in the belief that al...
Former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign called on former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to drop out of the Democratic presidential primary race in a memo released on Thursday, warning that Bloomberg’s presence in the race would propel Sen. Bernie Sanders to the Democratic nomination. “If Bloomberg remains in the race despite showing he can not offer a viable alternative to Bernie Sanders, he will propel Sanders to a seemingly insurmountable delegate lead siphoning votes away from Pete, the current leader in delegates,” Buttigieg’s campaign wrote. The campaign projected that if the dynamics of the primary do not change, Sanders would emerge from Super Tuesday as almost unbeatable, adding that Buttigieg was the strongest al...
The Michael Bloomberg Twitter account circulated a doctored clip the morning after the Nevada debate, edited to make it look like the former New York mayor had a winning moment in an otherwise panned debate performance. In the video, Bloomberg turns to the row of his fellow candidates and asks: “I’m the only one here, I think, that’s ever started a business, is that fair?” In the doctored video, the candidates appear to be rendered mute by the question. Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stare blankly ahead, mouths agape. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) raises her hand halfheartedly and puts ...
Baltimore, MD — Former Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake on Thursday endorsed a Democratic candidate for president and has been named a campaign official. Rawlings-Blake endorsed Mike Bloomberg for president and was named national political co-chair for the campaign, joining former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. "I am proud to endorse Mike Bloomberg for president of the United States. Mike has been a good friend and mentor to me for many years. He is a no-nonsense leader who has taken on the country's toughest fights," Rawlings-Blake said in a prepared statement. "When we were both in office, we worked together to get illegal guns off the streets of Baltimore, New York, and cities acros...
Israel Hayom-i24NEWS survey projects Right-Haredim bloc will win 56 seats, gives the Left and Arab parties a combined 57 seats. This means Israel is very likely to have yet another deadlocked Knesset. With elections less than two weeks away, a new Israel Hayom-i24NEWS poll is projecting a deadlocked Knesset once again, potentially paving the way for another election several months down the road. The new poll, conducted by the Maagar Mochot polling institute, shows that neither political bloc would be able to muster a majority in the 120-seat Knesset: The Right-Haredim bloc is projected to secure 56 seats, whereas the Left and Arab parties would have a combined 57 seats. MK Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beytenu, which has refused to endorse any bloc but would sup...

A female terrorist attempted to repeatedly stab a pedestrian walking past the Jerusalem Tayelet (promenade) in the Armon HaNatziv neighborhood, which is located not far from the US Embassy in Jerusalem. The Tayelet affords a beautiful view of the Old City of Jerusalem. The victim was only lightly scratched according to Hatzalah without Borders, and didn’t need treatment. Yechiel Myberg, of United Hatzalah, was the first EMT on the scene, and he managed to overpower the terrorist until the police arrested her. Myberg said that he was walking in the area when he heard screams. People nearby panicked when they saw the woman with the knife. “I ran at her and I knocked the knife out of her hand,” the heroic United Hatzalah EMT said. Read more at Jewish Press

At approximately 5:00 PM on Thursday, the Yeshiva boy was walking when he was approached by two thugs who brandished a knife and demanded his wallet. The victim complied and the suspects fled with the wallet. The victim contacted NYPD and Flatbush Shomrim, and a search began immediately. A short while later, a Shomrim volunteer noticed 3 black males in the park on Avenue K and East 17th Street who appeared on edge. Amid a verbal tit-for-tat between Gov. Larry Hogan and leaders in the General Assembly and Baltimore City Hall, Hogan announced he is designating as emergency legislation the violent crime bills he introduced at the start of the legislative session. "I don't want to hear any more excuses. There can not be any more delays. We need to stop playing politics. Pass these bills," Hogan said. "It's not like we're just trying to be disagreeable. It's not that we're just trying to start a confrontation with the legislature. We're just trying to save lives and take action." The designation means that, if passed, the bills would take effect immediately rather than months later. It's unclear if Hogan's announcement, made during a Thursday news confer...
