[Editor’s note: As a memory of my beloved brother Shaya, I would like to continue sending out his pearls of wisdom that he has shared with all of you in the past. For some of you this may ring a bell and for others it may appear to be totally new. May the learning of Shaya’s Divrei Torah inspire us to change our ways and thereby give an Aliya to the neshama of our dear beloved Shaya whom we miss so much. A special thank you to Aaron Friedman for always looking over the divrei torah.]
The Haftora of Parshas Ki Seitzei [my Bar Mitzva Parsha!] begins with the words 'rani akara lo yalada,' which means 'Sing- barren one who did not give birth.’ The Gemara in Brachos tells a story, where a her...

1) Shiluach Hakein – don’t turn a gezeira into rachamim
We have the pasuk about shiluach hakein. Perek 22, pasuk 7. “Shalei’ach t’shalach es ha’eim.” Send away the mother. “v’es habanim tikach lach.” Take the children for yourself. “L’maan yitav lach.” So, you’ll have a good life. “v’ha’arachta yamim.” Have a long life. And, the gemara tells us a famous thing in berachos that if you say: Oh, Hashem has rachmanus on the kan tzipor, on the birds. Mishaskin oso. You tell him to be quiet. And, one pshat in the gemara is because it’s as if you are making Hashem’s laws as if they are just based on ra...
A senior US administration official said on Thursday that the report in Politico on alleged Israeli spying in the White House is “completely false”.
The unnamed official told Los Angeles Times reporter Noga Tarnopolsky that the Politico story "is completely false. Absolutely false. I checked."
The report said that an investigation by security forces in the United States has led to the suspicion that Israel is behind the placing of miniature surveillance devices, colloquially known as “StingRays,” in the vicinity of the White House.
The devices in question mimic regular cell towers to fool cell phones into giving them their locations and identity information. According to Politico, they also can capture the contents of calls and ...
BOWIE, Md. (WJZ) — A small plane crashed on Route 50 in Bowie, Maryland Thursday morning after the pilot allegedly misjudged the landing. Prince George’s County Fire spokesman Mark Brady tweeted the aircraft went down near Freeway Airport.
Fire officials said the plane hit a car as it crashed in the eastbound lanes of Route 50 near Church Road. Four people were injured, but the pilot, Julius Tolson Jr., 58, of Laurel, and the passenger of the plane, Michael Garrah, 57, of Columbia, Md., refused transportation to a hospital but were treated at the scene.
“The plane had two people, the vehicle had two people,” Maryland State Police Sgt. Davaugh Parker said. “Everyone was assessed by medics at the scene. Further investigation will come from the FAA.”...

The anomaly of the ‘Rebellious Son’, a child who has exhibited, between the young age of thirteen and thirteen and three months, seemingly irreparable errant behavior, who is condemned to death, leaves us wondering.
The Talmud teaches that although at this juncture he hasn’t yet committed any capital crimes, nevertheless, it would be best to dispatch with him while he is relatively innocent before he becomes extremely guilty. His petty thievery and indulgent habits will no doubt cause him to evolve into a menace who will terrorize the populace with more heinous crimes.
Yet there is one caveat to the justice system’s attempt to ‘save him from himself’. Only if the parents ‘grasp him and take him out to the elders of his city’...

“When you build a new house, you shall make a fence (guard-rail) for your roof, so that you shall not cause blood to be spilled in your house, that the one who falls should fall from it [the roof].” (Devorim 22:8)
We must learn to be vigilant. We must take great care to avoid harming or injuring a fellow Jew. We must even make sure that my property doesn’t pose a risk to the other. In Biblical times, roofs were often flat (as they were used to dry produce and for other related activities of daily living) and therefore, fences had to be constructed around one’s roof to ensure that no one would fall. On the most basic level, the Torah is instilling within us a heightened sensitivity for the other. We can’t harm with our words, our fists or our roof; we must be ...
In this week’s parshah, we are told about the prohibition of taking an ownerless mother bird when it is sitting on its eggs or young (22:6). Directly after that, the Torah relays the commandment to build a protective fence on the roof of one’s home. Immediately following this, the Torah forbids a Jew from crossbreeding two different species of produce in one’s field or allowing two different species of animal to pull one plow at the same time. After that, the Torah discusses the commandment to tie tzitzis to any four cornered garment.
We know that there is significance and a connection when one mitzvah in the Torah is placed next to another (this is often expounded on in Gemara regularly). What then can possibly be the connection between sending away a mother bir...
BALTIMORE, MD — Traffic is expected to be so heavy in downtown Baltimore Thursday, Sept. 12, that transportation officials are encouraging people to avoid some areas altogether. Congestion, road closures and delays are possible from 4 to 8:30 p.m.
President Donald Trump will head to Baltimore Thursday to deliver an address at the GOP conference. The event will be at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront hotel on Aliceanna Street in Harbor East. It is organized by the Congressional Institute and House Republican Conference.
Those downtown after 4 p.m. should avoid the area south of Baltimore Street between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Central Avenue, the Baltimore Department of Transportation advised.

Parshat Ki Teitzei presents a seemingly harsh set of guidelines for inclusion within the Jewish people. Marriage is strictly limited to pedigreed Jews and, additionally, not all races are granted access into Judaism. Certain nationalities, such as Amon and Moav, are completely excluded based on past national misdeeds. Other nationalities such as the Egyptians are allowed to convert but must undergo a three-generation transitional period before marriage with fully pedigreed Jews is licensed. Full membership within the Jewish nation isn’t inclusive, but severely restricted.
To some, these restrictions appear bigoted and chauvinistic. The modern enlightened world has successfully created inclusive educational settings, workplaces and even families- embracing people regardless of ...
I write this with thanks to the Ribbono Shel Olam, to be able to write it, and not be written about!
As we were dispatched to the Twin Towers for a fire, not knowing what we were getting in to, I rode in the Hatzoloh ambulance to Manhattan. We were able to clearly see the upper portion of the towers on fire from the Prospect Expway on the way into the Battery Tunnel.
As we got out of the tunnel and turned on to West St. I saw body parts all over the street. I saw a part of the airplane, it looked like a engine behind a burned car. As we got closer, we were told to park the ambulance right near the towers. I think we were originally right behind the towers. Then there was a report that a 3rd plane may be coming into the building, so we got back on the ambulance and st...

In a major win for the Trump administration, the Supreme Court issued an order late Wednesday ending all injunctions that had blocked the White House's ban on asylum for anyone trying to enter the U.S. by traveling through a third country, such as Mexico, without seeking protection there.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals – long a liberal bastion that has been aggressively reshaped into a more moderate court by the Trump administration – handed the White House a partial victory in the case on Monday by ending the nationwide injunction. But the 9th Circuit kept the injunction alive within the territorial boundaries of the circuit, which encompasses California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Guam, ...
