Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who is running for president in 2020, responded affirmatively on Monday to the anti-Israel group IfNotNow calling on her to pressure “the Israeli government to end occupation,” defined as “stealing Palestinian land.”
Two IfNotNow activists approached Warren, who was campaigning in New Hampshire, with one of them, University of Michigan student Becca Lubow, telling her, “We really love the way you’re fighting corruption. We’d really love it if you also pushed the Israeli government to end occupation.”

That’s the number of Jews known to currently live in Cairo following the death of the mother of the president of the Jewish community there.
The death of Marcelle Haroun at the age of 93, announced on Saturday, leaves her daughter, Magda, and four granddaughters as the only Jewish residents of the Egyptian capital, reported Watani International.
As of 2017, there are an additional 12 Jews residing in Alexandria, according to AFP.
Haroun was married to anti-Zionist lawyer and politician Shehata Haroun, who was part of Egypt’s Communist Party. He died in 2001 at the age of 82.

Attempts to assassinate members of Hamas’ military wing by Israel were thwarted multiple times over recent months, Lebanese newspaper al-Akhbar reported on Wednesday.
The reported attempts came in earnest following a botched operation last November in the Gaza Strip that left one IDF special forces soldier dead, according to Hamas security sources who spoke with the publication.
The Gaza-based security sources also noted that unlike previous attempts to kill senior Hamas militants, Israel employed a “silent method” to take out their targets meant to minimize their footprint on the operations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Wednesday not to “uproot a single settlement” located in the disputed West Bank under any peace plan with the Palestinians.

A man has been arrested after climbing over Buckingham Palace’s front gates in the middle of the night, police have said.
The 22-year-old was held on suspicion of trespass at around on Wednesday by specialist royal officers, the Metropolitan Police Service said. The intruder was not carrying a weapon and the incident is not being treated as terror-related, the force said.
The man remains in custody at a nearby police station in central London.

The White House is pushing congressional leaders to strike a spending deal and increase the debt limit in the next two or three weeks, jolted by a recent report that found the Treasury Department was running out of cash much faster than previously forecasted.
But the talks have bogged down amid acrimony between Democrats and the White House, and now Washington’s leaders run the risk of a fiscal pileup that could also imperil President Donald Trump’s effort to update the North American Free Trade Agreement.
White House officials have said the debt ceiling must be raised by early September to ensure the government can pay its bills. And spending on many federal programs expires at the end of September, requiring a separate deal to prevent a government shutdown.

Los Angeles - A California couple has sued a fertility clinic, claiming their embryo was mistakenly implanted in a New York woman, who gave birth to their son as well as a second boy belonging to another couple.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday by Anni and Ashot Manukyan describes an in vitro fertilization mix-up by CHA Fertility Center in Los Angeles that involves three separate couples.
The birth mother believed she was carrying twins made from her and her husband’s genetic material. She and her husband have also sued.
The Manukyans say they endured a court fight before being granted custody of their son. They are seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
CHA officials did not respond to emails seeking comment.
It’s unclear from the lawsuits what happened to the other son.

Queens, NY - Two adults and a 6-year-old girl were killed and two others were seriously injured in a house fire in New York, authorities said.
The blaze was reported Wednesday afternoon in a two-story home in East Elmhurst in Queens. About 100 firefighters responded to the blaze, which was declared under control about an hour and a half later, according to the New York Fire Department.
“Unfortunately it’s a sad afternoon here in East Elmhurst,” said FDNY Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro. “It’s quite unusual at that time in the afternoon to have a fire trap five occupants in a private dwelling.”
“The first call we received came from the occupant of the first floor apartment in that home who heard an alarm going off and called 911,” Nigro said.

Five Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps gunboats tried to seize a British oil tanker in the Persian Gulf Wednesday but backed off after a British warship approached, a senior U.S. defense official told Fox News.
The British warship was said to have been less than 5 miles behind the tanker but soon intercepted the Iranian boats and threatened to open fire. A manned U.S. reconnaissance aircraft was above as well, the official said, adding that Iranian forces left without opening fire.

A 75-year-old San Diego man who led an eventful life of danger and who some thought may have been D.B. Cooper, the legendary hijacker who pulled off one of the most daring heists in modern history, died Tuesday.
Robert Rackstraw died in his condominium, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. An Army veteran and pilot, Rackstraw was often a target for amateur sleuths who thought he could be the infamous hijacker who in 1971 jumped from a plane over Washington state with $200,000 cash.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez D-N.Y., wondered if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is purposely assigning her busy work, in an effort to discourage her outward dissent and keep her away from the public eye.

22-year-old Ali Bashar was sentenced on Wednesday by a court in Wiesbaden to life in prison for the murder of Susanna Feldman, a 14-year old German Jewish teenager whose May 2018 murder prompted outrage and spurred calls for Chancellor Angela Merkel to take action to deport failed asylum seekers.
The judge found the “murder in cold blood” to be of exceptional severity, making it unlikely the Iraqi asylum seeker will be granted parole after 15 years.
The killing fueled far-right protests and exacerbated tensions between the Muslim and Jewish communities, although some question whether the victim was Jewish.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting a case of a mysterious, polio-like illness in Maryland.
The CDC said the Maryland case comprises one of 11 confirmed cases of acute flaccid myelitis in eight states.
The CDC said AFM is a rare but serious condition that affects the nervous system. It typically begins with a fever and stomach problems. Symptoms progress to mimic polio and can cause muscles and reflexes to weaken suddenly.
There are no known treatments or ways to prevent it.

Hamas’s armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, and the terrorist group’s various security branches simulated an Israeli ground incursion as part of a surprise drill held in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
During the drill, Hamas fighters deployed in various parts of Gaza where civilian traffic had been halted.
Reports from Gaza on Tuesday said that as part of the drill, fishing was stopped and a high level of alert was declared. A curfew was imposed on some streets.
