President Trump said Tuesday he received a “beautiful” letter from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un amid their apparent impasse on nuclear talks.
Trump called the letter “very warm” and “very nice” and expressed confidence the two sides could eventually reach an agreement.
“We have a very good relationship together,” Trump told reporters as he departed the White House for a trip to Iowa.
The president added that another meeting could take place, but that Kim has “kept his word” and “that’s very important to me.”

Moldovan President Igor Dodon on Tuesday scrapped a decree for a snap parliamentary election that was hastily issued by his rivals through a high court maneuver, as two opposing factions tussled for control of the tiny east European country.
The leaders of the pro-EU ACUM bloc and Dodon’s Russian-backed Socialists broke months of post-election deadlock by agreeing to form a government aimed at fighting corruption and keeping a party run by tycoon Vladimir Plahotniuc out of power.
But Plahotniuc’s Democratic Party does not recognize the new government and insists Pavel Filip, the prime minister who led the government until February’s vote, is still in charge.
The Democrats persuaded the Constitutional Court to briefly suspend Dodon on Sunday, install Filip as president ...
Terrorist attacks against Israelis more than tripled in May, which was the deadliest month in almost two years.
The increase to 449 incidents in May over April’s 126 incidents owes to the launching of hundreds of rockets last month from Gaza into Israel. The rockets killed four people and wounded eight out of the 10 wounded in terrorist attacks in May.
The remaining two were stabbed in Yerushalayim, the Israel Security Agency (Shabak) said in its monthly report for May published earlier this week.

Egypt, Jordan and Morocco are expected to attend the Bahrain economic summit on June 25-26 as part of the first part of the Trump administration’s long-awaited Mideast peace deal between the Israelis and the Palestinians, the White House confirmed on Tuesday.
“Morocco, Jordan and Egypt have told us that they are attending,” a senior White House official told The Times of Israel.
While Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates said last month that they will attend the summit, the Palestinian Authority, Russia and China said they will boycott it.
Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., and candidate for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020, criticized U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday for withdrawing from the 2015 Iran deal in May 2018, saying that it was “close to a true ‘art of the deal,’ ” a reference to one of the president’s books.
“Preventing the spread of nuclear weapons should remain a core tenet of our global leadership,” said Buttigieg, 37, in a speech focused on foreign policy and national security at the University of Indiana in Bloomington. “For this reason, I will rejoin our international partners and recommit the U.S. to the Iran nuclear deal.”
“Whatever its imperfections, this was perhaps as close to a true ‘art of the deal&rs...

Minneapolis - Minnesota campaign finance officials said last week that U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar misused campaign funds in violation of state rules. They also revealed that she had filed joint tax returns with her husband years before they were legally married and at a time when she was married to another man.
The revelation put the freshman representative under more scrutiny from critics who have taken issue with her marital past. One tax expert says if the issue has been corrected she’s unlikely to face any criminal consequences.
Some questions and answers about the tax issue:
Q: What did Omar do wrong?
A: The Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board said Thursday that Omar and her husband, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, filed joint tax returns for 2014 and 2015 — before...
WASHINGTON (AP) — Brushing back calls for impeachment, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday “it’s not even close” to having enough support in the House, while Democrats pushed forward on other fronts to investigate President Donald Trump.
The House voted 229-191 to approve a resolution that will allow Democrats to accelerate their legal battles with the Trump administration over access to information from the Russia investigation.
At the same time, they’re convening hearings this week on special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, in an effort to boost public interest in the findings of the Trump-Russia probe while digging into a legal strategy aimed at forcing the administration into compliance with congressional oversight.
“We need answers to the qu...
Davenport, IA - Speaking in Iowa on the same day as Donald Trump, Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden denounced the Republican U.S. president’s trade policies, saying they were easy for Trump to push when farmers and auto makers are feeling the pain.
Trump’s trade war with China has crushed American farmers, without countering the challenge that Chinese policies pose to the United States, Biden said in remarks he planned to deliver at a campaign stop in Davenport, Iowa.
“He thinks he’s being tough,” Biden said. “Well, it’s easy to be tough when someone else is feeling the pain.”
Biden, who served for eight years as vice president under former President Barack Obama, will be in the early voting farm state of Iowa on the same day as Tr...
Prime Minister Netanyahu on Monday vowed Israel will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons, following reports from the UN nuclear watchdog claiming Tehran has increased the rate of enriched uranium production.
Referencing the claims, Netanyahu said firmly in a video address: “I repeat: We will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons that will endanger us and the entire world.”
The Israeli premier also issued a harsh rebuke to Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif who earlier in the day said Tehran would not stand idly by concerning Israeli threats to “destroy Iran.”
“Zarif is lying again. It is Iran that openly threatens annihilation. The heads of the [Iranian] regime threaten the destruction of Israel daily. Iran is trying to establish itself militari...

Exactly 75 years ago, Normandy was the site of one of the largest military invasions ever staged. Forever known as D-Day, June 6, 1944 marked the turning point of World War II, in which 156,000 American, British and Canadian troops stormed 50 miles of fiercely defended beaches in northern France.
U.S. President Donald Trump will headline a flurry of ceremonies, presentations and memorials this week to commemorate the 75th anniversary.
Among those present will be Rabbi Mordechai and Zlata Lewin, co-directors of Chabad ofCaen since 2014.
In an interview with Chabad.org, Rabbi Lewin shares what it’s like to serve as the only rabbi along the beache...

The fifth-grade students were headed to Richmond, Virginia for a field trip
Delta Air Lines took their customer service to sky-high heights last week when they chartered a special plane for 41 fifth-graders left stranded in an Oklahoma airport.
The group of fifth-graders and chaperones from James L. Dennis Elementary School in Oklahoma City were headed to Washington, D.C. for a field trip last week when American Airlines canceled their flight.
With no way to get to the east coast, the group was stuck at Will Rogers World Airport — until Delta ground agents reached out with a solution.
After contacting the airline’s Operations and Customer Center, Delta, with the help of Delta Connection partner Endeavor, was able to track down a spare airplane in Atlanta and send it to Ok...
MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) — President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden assailed each other during overlapping visits to Iowa on Tuesday, previewing what the country might get in next year’s election if Biden becomes his party’s nominee.
Even before he left the White House, Trump unleashed a series of schoolyard taunts, declaring that “Joe Biden is a dummy.” Biden quickly retorted that the president is “an existential threat to this country.”
The back-and-forth laid bare the rising political stakes for each, even with Election Day 2020 still about 17 months away. Trump has zeroed in on Biden as a potential threat to his re-election chances and is testing themes to beat him back. Biden, meanwhile, is campaigning as a front-runner, relishing the ...
Yarmouth, MA - Ryan Cooper was a 20-something Californian unsure of his place in the world when he struck up a pen pal correspondence in the 1970s with Otto Frank, the father of the young Holocaust victim Anne Frank.
Through dozens of letters and several face-to-face meetings, the two forged a friendship that lasted until Frank died in 1980 at the age of 91.
Now 73 years old, Cooper, an antiques dealer and artist in Massachusetts, has donated a trove of letters and mementos he received from Frank to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington ahead of the 90th anniversary Wednesday of Anne Frank’s birth on June 12, 1929.
He wants the letters to be shared so that people can have a deeper understanding of the man who introduced the world to Anne Frank, whose famous World War II...

Paris - French judicial authorities are investigating five people after uncovering an ultra-right plot to attack a religious venue.
A judicial official said Tuesday that two people, one a minor, were arrested and placed under investigation in May for criminal terrorist association. Three others were arrested in the probe that was opened in September in Grenoble, southeast France. The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office took over the case.
The official said only one of the four was being held.
He was confirming portions of a BFMTV report saying that targets were Muslim or Jewish. The official, who requested anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly, didn’t say at what stage the plot was or what the target was.
There was no link with a 2017 ultra-right plo...
New York - The pilot killed Monday when his helicopter slammed into the roof of a New York City skyscraper was not authorized to fly in limited visibility, according to his pilot certification, raising questions about why he took off in fog and steady rain.
Tim McCormack, 58, was only certified to fly under regulations known as visual flight rules, which require generally good weather and clear conditions, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The rules require at least 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) of visibility and that the sky is clear of clouds for daytime flights. The visibility at the time of Monday’s crash was about 1¼ miles (2 kilometers) at nearby Central Park, with low clouds blanketing the skyline.
McCormack was not certified to use instruments to he...
An eight-hour crackdown on illegal street racing on Interstate 695 and other local highways led to 130 traffic stops Friday night, Maryland State Police said.
Police say their joint operation with other local police agencies resulted in 120 citations, 93 warnings and 58 safety equipment repair orders being issued. In addition to the beltway, police patrolled Interstate 70, Interstate 795, Baltimore National Pike, Security Boulevard, and Pulaski Highway looking for vehicles involved in races. They say this year's operation led to exactly twice as many traffic stops as a similar operation a year ago.
So far in 2019, at least three people have been killed while taking part in street races in Baltimore County alone, police said.
