President Trump tweeted on Saturday night that his administration has the legal right to send undocumented immigrants to sanctuary cities and demanded it happen. “Just out: The USA has the absolute legal right to have apprehended illegal immigrants transferred to Sanctuary Cities,” he wrote. “We hereby demand that they be taken care of at the highest level, especially by the State of California, which is well known or its poor management & high taxes!” White House spokesman Hogan Gidley on Saturday told Fox News shortly before the announcement that the administration was working with DHS and ICE to try to send undocumented immigrants to sanctuary cities. “They have said they wanted all of these illegal aliens into their communities,” Gidley said w...
Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro attempted to curb criticism over his comments that the Holocaust could be forgiven Saturday, saying that his words were being misinterpreted. Bolsonaro on Thursday told a group of evangelical pastors in Rio de Janiero that “We can forgive, but we cannot forget. That quote is mine. Those that forget their past are sentenced not to have a future.” In a clarification posted by Israel’s ambassador to Brazil Yossi Shelley late Saturday, Bolsonaro blamed “those who want to push me away from my Jewish friends,” for taking his speech out of context. “To the people of Israel I wrote in the guestbook of the Yad Vashem museum in Jerusalem: ‘Those who forget their past are doomed to not have a future’ Therefore, any ...
U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed President Donald Trump, who shared a grim video featuring Rep. Ilhan Omar’s controversial 9/11 remarks alongside footage of the Twin Towers being attacked. “Members of Congress have a duty to respond to the President’s explicit attack today,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Friday. “@IlhanMN’s life is in danger. For our colleagues to be silent is to be complicit in the outright, dangerous targeting of a member of Congress. We must speak out.” She also shared an image of the words of “First they came … ,” the famous poem by German theologian Martin Niemöller that was inspired by the tragedies of the Holocaust. The poem reads: “First they came for the socialists, and I did n...
New York - Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are down. All three social media platforms, including Facebook Messenger, were not loading as of early Sunday morning. It was not immediately clear what caused the outage or how long the platforms would be down. An email requesting comment about the outage was sent to Facebook. #FacebookDown, #instagramdown and #whatsappdown were all trending on Twitter globally. Washington - Top Democrats on Saturday rushed to defend Rep. Ilhan Omar after President Donald Trump retweeted video that was edited to suggest she was being dismissive of the significance of the worst terrorist assault on U.S. soil. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi scolded Trump for using the “painful images of 9/11 for a political attack” against the first-term Minnesota Democrat. And presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, campaigning in New Hampshire, accused Trump of “trying to incite violence and to divide us, and every political leader should speak out against that.” The video Trump retweeted Friday pulls a snippet of Omar’s recent speech to the Council on American-Islamic Relations in which she described the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Cente...
Damascus - An Israeli airstrike on a military position in central Syria early Saturday wounded six soldiers and destroyed several buildings, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported. SANA quoted an unnamed military official as saying the airstrike near the town of Masyaf, in Hama province, hit a military academy widely known as the Accounting School. It said Israeli warplanes fired missiles toward Syria from Lebanon’s airspace and that Syrian air defenses shot down some of the missiles. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Israeli airstrikes hit three targets, wounding 17 Syrian soldiers. It said there were also deaths, but it was not immediately clear how many were killed and whether they were Iranians or Iran-sponsored fighters. It said the strikes ...
Join us as we explore how gluten free kosher machine made matzos are baked for Passover. It all starts with the factory preparation to ensure a gluten free working environment - gloves, gowns, and the whole works. Once the place is fully scrubbed, the dough preparation starts. Complicated as the timing is for regular matzos to meet the 18-minute mix-to-bake limit, creating viable dough with ingredients such as spelt and oats is an exact science requiring precise measurements, not to mention the highest level shmura kashrut standards for Pesach. After coming out of the oven, the matzohs are individually examined, sorted, and packed for shipment after passing through the weigh station. Ramallah, West Bank - A new government for the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority was sworn in Saturday, led by a veteran peace negotiator and harsh critic of Gaza’s Hamas rulers. President Mahmoud Abbas picked Mohammed Ishtayeh as prime minister, a move that deepens the internal Palestinian divide at a time when prospects for a peace deal with Israel are possibly at their lowest point ever. A longtime adviser to Abbas and a senior member of his Fatah party, Ishtayeh and his 24-member cabinet took the oath of office at Abbas’ headquarters in Ramallah. Ishtayeh faces tremendous challenges, with the PA in a deep financial crisis following U.S. sanctions and Israel’s withholding of $138 million in key tax revenues it collects on behalf of the Palestinians. Rep. Ilhan Omar is "off her rocker" and her fellow member of Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, is a "joke" who will be seen "ultimately as an asterisk" in history, according to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Omar, D-Minn. is facing fierce backlash after a speech at a Muslim rights group's event in which she described the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks as "some people did something." Speaking on the Brian Kilmeade Show on Fox News Radio, Christie, who initially thought his wife was in the Twin Towers on the day of the attacks, said: "As somebody who had my wife two blocks away from the World Trade Center that day, my brother on the floor of the New York Stock exchange, and a number of people in our local parish here who passed away, a murder occurred. "Multiple...
The violent weekly riots along the Israel-Gaza border, known as the “March of the Return”, resumed on Friday. An IDF spokesman told AFP that around “approximately 4,700 rioters and demonstrators” took part in various incidents along the frontier. The Hamas-run “health ministry” in Gaza claimed a 15-year-old Palestinian Arab teenager was shot dead by the Israeli army during the renewed clashes. At least 48 others were taken to hospital with a variety of injuries from clashes at several spots along the border, the ministry said without elaborating. Read more at Arutz Sheva.
At 8:00a.m. Friday, Israel Railways was forced to stop all train traffic throughout Israel due to the fact that nearly half of the National Railways Command’s traffic controllers “called in sick,” leading to chaos at several train stations. Histadrut Chairman Arnon Bar-David ordered Israel Railways’ Employees’ Committee to immediately locate substitutes for the missing controllers and the trains were able to return to normal operations. “Israel Railways’ management apologizes to the passengers and takes the wild and illegal step taken by the employees’ representatives very seriously. We will do everything possible in order to prevent such incidents in the future.” Read more at Arutz Sheva.
Pennsylvania lawmakers on Wednesday honored the memory of the 11 Jewish worshippers who were killed in October 2018 at the Tree of Life Or L’Simcha Synagogue in Pittsburgh. The joint session in the state’s House of Representatives in the capital, Harrisburg, was attended by nearly two-dozen relatives of the victims. The opening prayer was conducted by Rabbi Jonathan Perlman of the New Light Congregation, which was one of the three services taking place at the synagogue during the shooting. “This moment of American history and this ravaging Sabbath massacre in my hometown tells us that all is not well in our republic,” said Rabbi Cheryl Klein. “Hate is emboldened, and white supremacists are somehow mainstreamed. This diseased American moment was anti-Semitis...
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling all models of Fisher-Price Rock N' Play sleepers after it was linked to over 30 infant deaths. The move comes just a few days after the American Academy of Pediatrics, a professional organization of pediatricians known by the acronym AAP, called on the CPSC to recall the products, citing an analysis from Consumer Reports magazine connecting it to 32 sleep-related infant deaths. "This product is deadly and should be recalled immediately," Dr. Kyle Yasuda, president of the AAP, said in a press release. "When parents purchase a product for their baby or child, many assume that if it's being sold in a store, it must be safe to use. Tragically, that is not the case. There is convincing evidence that the Rock n...
Georgetown University could become the first college in the nation to mandate a fee to benefit descendants of slaves sold by the university nearly 200 years ago after a student referendum passed by almost a 2-to-1 margin. The school’s undergraduates voted Thursday on the referendum, which would increase tuition by $27.20 per semester to create a fund benefiting descendants of the 272 slaves sold to pay off the Georgetown Jesuits’ debt — a move that saved the university financially. “The Jesuits sold my family and 40 other families so you could be here,” sophomore Melisande Short-Colomb, a Georgetown student, said during a town hall to discuss the issue last week. Short-Colomb, age 63, is one of four students currently attending the university under an admis...
