Assuming spring showers stay at bay, sky-watchers in the Northern Hemisphere will get to see a cosmic triple play on March 20, as a “super worm moon” lights up the vernal equinox. According to astronomy website EarthSky.org, a full moon has not landed this close to the first day of spring since the year 2000, and the two celestial events won’t happen less than a day apart again until 2030.
Because the moon’s orbit is egg-shaped, there are times when it is at what astronomers call perigee, or its shortest distance from Earth, and times when it is at apogee, or its farthest distance from Earth. And because the size of the moon's orbit varies slightly with each lunar cycle, perigee is not always the same distance from month to month.

New York - The apparent suspension of Jeanine Pirro is squeezing Fox News Channel in two directions.
A prominent Muslim-American civil rights organization is calling for advertisers to boycott Fox News, while another group is petitioning to have the weekend host reinstated.
Pirro wasn’t on the air Saturday, a week after Fox publicly condemned her for comments questioning U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s loyalty because she wears a Muslim head covering. Fox hasn’t explained the former New York-area district attorney’s absence, declining to comment on “internal scheduling matters.”
The network’s schedule for the upcoming weekend lists another program in Pirro’s time slot.

Gaza - Hamas is facing the biggest demonstrations yet against its 12-year rule of the Gaza Strip, with hundreds of Palestinians taking to the streets in recent days to protest the dire living conditions in the blockaded territory.
With little tolerance for dissent, the Islamic militant group has responded with heavy-handed tactics. It has arrested dozens of protesters, beaten activists and violently suppressed attempts by local media to cover the unrest.
Hamas has accused the rival West Bank-based Palestinian Authority of orchestrating the protests — a charge that organizers vehemently reject.

At least 30 gravestones at the Jewish cemetery in Fall River, Massachusetts, were found to be vandalized today.
Police were called to the cemetery to investigate the defacement of the dozens of graves, all covered with anti-Semitic slogans and swastikas.
No arrests have been made so far.

Several flyers containing antisemitic messages were found near at least two schools and a shopping mall in Los Angeles on Monday.
“What is the difference between Crackheads and Jews?” one flyer read.
Another appeared to suggest that the Star of David was a “HATE Symbol” akin to a Nazi swastika, followed by the text, “The murder of innocent women and children by a Rothschild led Jewish Zionist armed militia to forcibly confiscate the Land of Palestine now known as Israel.”
Four such flyers were placed near El Camino Real Charter High School in Woodland Hills, while one was spotted on the perimeter of Nestle Avenue Charter Elementary School in Tarzana.
Officials in both schools told The Algemeiner that police were contacted and the flyers removed.

Baltimore, MD – Mar. 19, 2019 – For the last several months the collective patience of our community has been tested on a daily basis by extensive road construction being carried out by BGE. This traffic tumult has taken shape in the form of heavy delays and unwanted detours just to get around the corner, and the unpleasantness of metal plates and potholes.
With the arrival of Purim day this Thursday, the thought of this traffic nuisance coinciding with the hustle and bustle of Mishloach Manos delivery, sounded the alarm for many constituents. Calls into the office of Baltimore City Councilman Yitzy Schleifer led to his efforts to secure a one-day suspension of the road work to ensure the community roads will be safe for the Purim celebrants!
Kudos to Councilman Schleifer.

New York - A woman who climbed the base of the Statue of Liberty last July 4 to protest the separation of families at the Mexican border came to her sentencing Tuesday with her face entirely covered with clear sticky tape, irritating a judge who refused to proceed until she removed it.
After she did so, U.S. Magistrate Judge Gabriel W. Gorenstein spared Therese Okoumou from prison for her conviction on multiple misdemeanor counts though he berated her for what he thought was a lack of concern for rescuers whose safety he said she jeopardized.

No, not a good idea at all, not for the person behind the bars, nor for his family, and neither for those trying to help.
Every year, early Purim afternoon, the phones of many askanim would start ringing off the hook. On the other side of the line there would be a frantic individual desperately seeking assistance for a spouse, parent, sibling, or friend, who drank irresponsibly and got themselves into trouble, and ended up in a police car, or in an ambulance.
In most cases, the calls relate to cases of DUI or Driving Under the Influence, or in simple language, Drinking and Driving.
Just the fact that we have to resort to writing such an OP-ED is painful enough. Why shouldn’t it be simple common sense that if you plan to drink, just plan ahead for alternative means of transpor...

Washington - President Donald Trump’s two Supreme Court appointees were on opposite sides of two of three cases that the justices decided Tuesday.
The two new justices have solidified conservative control of the Supreme Court, but they do not march in lockstep, at least in the small corners of the court’s work dealing with Indian treaties and maritime law.
In one case, Justice Neil Gorsuch joined the court’s liberal justices in ruling that a Washington state Indian tribe doesn’t have to pay a state fuel tax. Gorsuch said an 1855 treaty makes a “handful of modest promises” to the Yakama Nation, including the right to move goods to market freely.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit has ruled that the parsonage allowance, an allowance provided for housing expenses to members of the clergy that is exempt from federal income taxes, is constitutional, overturning the lower district court decision that had ruled to the contrary.
The Court held that the parsonage allowance had a secular purpose, to treat religious employees similar to secular employees, who also receive tax exemptions for housing expenses that are work-related, and ruled that the parsonage allowance did not create an unconstitutional entanglement between government and religion.
