Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups informed an Egyptian security delegation, which was in the Gaza Strip earlier today, that they were not responsible for the rockets fired at Tel Aviv, Al-Jazeera reports. The Iron Dome took out two rockets tonight which were heading towards Tel Aviv. The IDF is still considering how to respond to the attack.
For many people, the commencement of Sefer Vayikra marks a distinct departure in the Torah from the telling of the history of the world and our becoming an Am, to the more technical details of the Avodas Hamishkan and Korbanos.  Indeed, without a Bais Hamikdash, it is all too easy to “read through” much of the Sefer as not relevant to our place in Galus.  After all, what possible use could we have for learning the difference between a Korban Tamid and a Korban Mincha or the precise method in which a Kohen was to sprinkle the blood from an offering?  Such an approach misses the obvious – Sefer Vayikra represents the same word of Hashem as Sefer Bereishis or Shemos.  In fact, its words carry some of the most fundamental lessons of the Kedushas Hatorah an...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-run Senate rejected President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency at the southwest border on Thursday, setting up a veto fight and dealing him a conspicuous rebuke as he tested how boldly he could ignore Congress in pursuit of his highest-profile goal. The Senate voted 59-41 to cancel Trump’s February proclamation of a border emergency, which he invoked to spend $3.6 billion more for border barriers than Congress had approved. Twelve Republicans joined Democrats in defying Trump in a showdown many GOP senators had hoped to avoid because he commands die-hard loyalty from millions of conservative voters who could punish defecting lawmakers in next year’s elections. With the Democratic-controlled House’s approval ...
Minnesota Democrats who are angry and offended at Rep. Ilhan Omar for her string of comments about Jews and Israel are reportedly considering squelching her next nomination and running a different candidate in her place. Those who want Omar replaced are looking for someone to contest her nomination and have been meeting to discuss that objective, The Hill reported Thursday. It’s typcally difficult to replace an incumbent politician, even one as arguably polarizing as Omar, who in her first two months as a congresswoman has sparked contentious debates both as a country and within the party. (RELATED: Rep. Omar Denies Anti-Obama Comments — But Her Own Audio File Confirms Them) “There’s definitely some buzz going around about it, but it’s more a...

Borough Park, NY - An Upper West Side man chose to celebrate a milestone birthday Wednesday night by handing out $80 gifts and blessings to clients arriving at a Borough Park soup kitchen to pick up their weekly food packages. Zalman, who asked VIN News not to reveal his last name, said that the idea to do something special on his birthday came to him several months ago as he was reading a book by noted lecturer Rabbi Paysach Krohn that discussed a person’s divine ability to bless others on their birthday.  Looking for an appropriate venue to bless others when he turned 80 on the seventh day of the Jewish month of Adar, Zalman reached out to Rabbi Krohn who suggested he spend the evening at the Masbia soup kitchen in Borough Park. After reaching out to the soup kitchen’...
Washington - The House has unanimously approved a resolution calling for any final report in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation to be made public. It’s a symbolic action designed to pressure Attorney General William Barr to release as much information as possible when the probe is concluded. The Democratic-backed resolution passed 420-0 on Thursday. Lawmakers in both parties have maintained there will have to be some sort of public resolution when the report is done — and privately hope that a report shows conclusions that are favorable to their own side. The nonbinding resolution calls for the public release of any report Mueller provides to Barr, with an exception for classified material. The resolution also calls for the full report to be released ...
Washington - Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin (mih-NOO’-shin) is suggesting he will protect President Donald Trump’s privacy if he receives a request from House Democrats for Trump’s tax returns. At a House Ways and Means Committee hearing Thursday, Mnuchin was asked whether he would meet a request for Trump’s tax returns. Chairman Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass., is expected to formally ask for those as Democrats seek to shed light on Trump’s financial dealings and potential conflicts of interest. Mnuchin said, “We will examine the request and we will follow the law ... and we will protect the president as we would any taxpayer” regarding their right to privacy. The law says the Treasury chief “shall furnish” the material, but Mnuchin d...

Jerusalem - Exxon Mobil Corp is considering exploring for oil and gas in Israel, said a person with direct knowledge of the matter, in what would make Exxon the first oil major to operate in the country still technically at war with Gulf Arab states. A number of large gas discoveries offshore Israel and in nearby eastern Mediterranean waters in the last decade have made Israel a potentially lucrative prospect for big energy firms. The region is emerging as a new hot spot for gas exploration and production. Until those discoveries, Israel was believed to be sitting on scant oil and gas reserves. There was little reason for energy firms to explore for energy in Israel and risk complicating operations and future investments in nearby Arab countries that hold some of the world’s larges...
Washington - A man with celiac disease felt sicker after starting a new drug, but it wasn’t a typical side effect. It turns out the pills were mixed with gluten the patient knew to avoid in food — but was surprised to find hiding in medicine. A new report says pills often contain so-called “inactive” ingredients capable of causing allergic or gastrointestinal reactions in small numbers of people sensitive to specific compounds. And it’s hard for those patients, or even their doctors, to tell if a pill contains an extra ingredient they should avoid, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital said Wednesday. When the doctor sends a prescription, the pharmacist issues whatever the person&rsqu...
Washington - Aerospace giant Boeing is a juggernaut in Washington, employing a team of in-house lobbyists and blue chip firms as part of a multimillion dollar influence operation built to shape policy on Capitol Hill and inside the Trump administration. But the company’s clout goes only so far. Bowing to international pressure, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that Boeing 737 Max 8 and Max 9 aircraft in the U.S. were being grounded following the Ethiopian Airlines disaster and another crash involving the same model jet five months earlier in Indonesia. Many nations in the world had already barred the aircraft from their airspace. Trump said he didn’t want to take any chances, even though the Federal Aviation Administration had said it didn’t have any data to ...
California - Los Angeles prosecutors say they won’t charge a synagogue security guard accused of shooting a person who was recording video of the building. The Los Angeles Times reports the announcement Thursday came as the woman who was shot filed a civil lawsuit against the guard and his employer. Edduin Zelayagrunfeld was arrested last month after the shooting outside the Etz Jacob Congregation/Ohel Chana High School. Prosecutors said they wouldn’t be able to prove he wasn’t acting in self-defense. The victim described the wound as deep graze to one leg. She is Zhoie Perez, a self-described First Amendment “auditor” who pushes the bounds of her rights in public spaces and posts videos to YouTube. Her lawsuit alleges assault and discrimination. The guar...
Warsaw - An opposition lawmaker in Poland is demanding explanations from the parliament speaker about why a right-wing weekly with an anti-Semitic headline was available at the parliament’s hotel. Michal Kaminski said Wednesday he spotted the “Tylko Polska” paper with a front-page headline reading “How to Recognize a Jew” in the kiosk at the hotel, where lawmakers from outside Warsaw stay during parliamentary sessions, and where many of them dine. He said it was an “absolute scandal” that such “filthy texts, as if taken from Nazi newspapers” are sold in the Polish parliament. Kaminski appealed for explanations from Parliament Speaker Marek Kuchcinski, a member of the right-wing ruling Law and Justice party. A spokesman for the parli...
