The IDF have arrested Givat Assaf shooter at Hizma checkpoint dressed in Israeli military uniform, local media reports. Two people were murdered in Givat Assaf in the Binyamin region, between the towns of Beit El and Ofra, after this terrorist opened fire on people standing at a hitchhiking station. The terrorist escaped the scene but was captured after police force led an extensive search of the surrounding areras. This is the third operation to capture a terrorist in the past 24 hours. Earlier today, IDF soldiers killed the shooter in the Ofra attack. Just hours later, search units finally found the Barkan attacker and killed the terrorist in a shootout. A stabber in the Old City of Yerushalayim today was shot and killled on scene.
Two police officers were wounded in a stabbing attack at the Hospice junction in the Old City this morning. A 20-year-old female Border Police officer suffered moderate injuries and was evacuated to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. A 21-year-old male officer with light injuries was evacuated to the Shaare Zedek Hospital. Other police officers who were at the scene neutralized and killed the terrorist.
Jerusalem, December 13, 2018 - In a drive-by shooting attack today at Givat Asaf, near Ofra, two people were killed and two more seriously wounded. All four victims were in their 20s.  ZAKA volunteer Reuven Reuven: "This is a difficult, murderous attack. People were killed in cold blood by terrorists. When I arrived at the scene, I saw four people who had been shot. Two of them were in critical condition and two were taken to hospital in serious condition. After resuscitation attempts failed, the medical team was forced to declare them dead at the scene. ZAKA volunteers from the Shai district are dealing with the bodies and clearing the very difficult scene of all human remains.”
A Hamas spokesman praised a terror attack in the Givat Assaf on Thursday, calling it “heroic,” but stopped short of claiming responsibilty. Two Israelis were killed and two others were severely injured in the drive-by shooting near the Ofra settlement, medics and officials said. The shoooter escaped the scene but was later captured by IDF unit trying to pass a checkpoint disguised as an Israeli soldier. “The heroic Silwad operation is a response to the Zionist occupation’s crimes and behavior in the occupied West Bank,” Abdelatif al-Qanou, a spokesman for the terror group, wrote on Twitter, referring to a Palestinian village near Ofra. “The West Bank’s youth and men will remain rebels against the occupation and continue to clash with it until it ...
Palestinian media and the IDF both reported strict checkpoint rules being enforced around the city of Ramallah on Thursday, following the attack that killed two in Givat Assaf. The attack, which is currently treated as a copycat attack of the shooting which injured seven adults and killed an infant last Sunday in Ofra. The attack took place less than 6 kilometers away from Ofra. The Palestinian Authority condemned the buildup of forces in the area, saying Ramallah was “under siege”. A Fatah spokesperson, Mounir el-Jagoub, said Israel should expect a response commensurate with the IDF “attack”. Read more at i24NEWS.
Baltimore, MD – Dec. 12, 2018 - On Motzaei Shabbos, November 17, 2018 over 35 women from Menlo Drive gathered at the home of Mrs. Leeba Braun for an evening of unity and sense of community.  Within the last few years, this sweeping stretch of homes from Park Heights Avenue to Reisterstown Road has undergone dramatic change, with many older residents moving into apartments or out of town to be closer to children.  While Mrs. Marion Gutman can proudly boast that she has “lived on Menlo” for fifty years (!), it was not uncommon this past summer before school began to see moving vans or construction trucks in front of any number of houses on the block.  The evening’s get-together was the attempt by both the “old timers” and “newcomers&r...

Baltimore, MD - Dec. 12, 2018 - As you may have heard, a fire was started in the Lev Shlomo building, on the corner of 7 Mile Lane and Park Heights Avenue, this evening.  We believe that the fire was started by a mentally unstable member of our community who has been attempting to enter the building. He is not a participant in the Lev Shlomo program, and Lev Shlomo has been working in recent days with law enforcement and others to address this situation. We are grateful for the outpouring of support and offers to help.  We will indeed need help, but we want to make certain that we address this situation in an effective and efficient manner.  We hope to develop near and medium-term plans in the coming days. We will have additional information posted on BJL as it develops. ...

New York - Retailers are taking back some control of the store experience with smartphone app features that let customers do things like scan and pay, as well as download digital maps. Nike created a buzz last month when it unveiled two new features on its mobile app during the opening of its latest high tech store in New York City. One feature lets shoppers see details of every item displayed on a mannequin by scanning the QR code next to it. Then with just a click, they can have the looks delivered to a fitting room or a designated pickup spot without ever talking to a store clerk. Another feature, instant checkout, lets customers who’ve stored their credit card information on their phone scan the barcode of an item, click the purchase button, then walk right out of the store. New York - Two weeks after the Department of Education issued guidelines that will subject all private schools in New York to oversight by local public school officials and also require them to substantially increase the number of hours of secular study provided to their students, the state’s Council of Catholic School Superintendents has announced its plans to boycott the new regulations. The Times Union (http://bit.ly/2LjES5j) reported that James Cultara, executive secretary of the Council of Catholic School Superintendents which represents approximately 500 schools, said that allowing public schools to determine if Catholic schools are providing a substantially equivalent education as required by law posed a conflict of interest.  Public schools are often faced with decreas...
Zagreb, Croatia - A Croatian deal to buy 12 used F-16 jets from Israel worth $500 million could be in jeopardy if the US does not approve of the sale, officials said Wednesday. The tentative deal to purchase the upgraded F-16 Barak fighter jets from Israel was made earlier this year pending a U.S. approval allowing Israel to sell the American-made jets to a third party. Israel has upgraded the jets with sophisticated electronic systems — crucial in Croatia’s decision to buy the planes from Israel rather than from the U.S. The U.S. State Department is now hinting that the upgrades should be removed before the jets can be sold. Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said “we will either buy the planes that were originally offered (by Israel) or the tender will be decl...
San Antonio - Former Obama housing chief Julian Castro says he’s taking a step toward a possible White House campaign in 2020 by forming a presidential exploratory committee. The Texas Democrat tells The Associated Press that he will announce a decision Jan. 12. The move Wednesday gives the 44-year-old former San Antonio mayor an early start to what’s shaping up as a crowded Democratic field without a clear front-runner to challenge President Donald Trump. Castro indicated in an AP interview that his mind was all but made up. “I know where I’m leaning, for sure,” said Castro, who has said for weeks that it was likely he would seek the nomination. An exploratory committee usually is a formality before a candidate launches a presidential campaign. It legally...
Miami - American diplomats affected by mysterious health incidents in Cuba showed damage in the inner ear shortly after they complained of weird noises and sensations, according to their earliest medical exams, publicized Wednesday. The detailed findings were published in a medical journal nearly two years after what the U.S. calls “health attacks” began — and they shed no new light on a possible culprit. “What caused it, who did it, why it was done — we don’t know any of those things,” said Dr. Michael Hoffer of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, who led the exams. The U.S. says since late 2016, 26 people associated with the embassy in Havana suffered problems that include dizziness, ear pain and ringing, and cognitive problems ...
Hampton, VA - Melania Trump made history Wednesday by flying in a V-22 Osprey aircraft during a visit to a pair of military bases. The White House says it’s the first time a first lady has flown in an Osprey. The tiltrotor aircraft takes off and lands vertically. Mrs. Trump flew round trip between Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington and Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia. First ladies usually don’t take solo helicopter rides. When they do travel by helicopter, they often are accompanying the president aboard Marine One, a more traditional aircraft. In Virginia, Mrs. Trump checked out the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jet and addressed an audience of service members, noting that many had just returned from deployment. Some had responded to natural disasters s...
Washington - From suggestions of “political synergy” and offers of business deals to contact with more than a dozen people in then-candidate Donald Trump’s orbit, Russian outreach to the Trump campaign has a familiar and alarming pattern to experts in the intelligence field. The attempts by Russians to establish contact, which were laid out in the latest court filings by special counsel Robert Mueller, were persistent, apparently targeted and more frequent than would be expected during a typical presidential campaign, former officials said after reviewing the documents. “This pattern is what the Russians do everywhere else in the world,” said Steven Hall, a former CIA official. “It’s standard intelligence tradecraft.” Mueller has been inve...
Sacramento, CA - California regulators are considering a plan to charge a fee for text messaging on mobile phones to help support programs that make phone service accessible to the poor, according to a newspaper report Wednesday. The proposal is scheduled for a vote next month by the state Public Utilities Commission, the Mercury News reported. The wireless industry and business groups have been working to defeat the plan. “It’s a dumb idea,” said Jim Wunderman, president of the Bay Area Council business-sponsored advocacy group. “This is how conversations take place in this day and age, and it’s almost like saying there should be a tax on the conversations we have.” It’s unclear how much money individual consumers would be asked to pay their w...
Los Angeles - A man is suing after he says one of his pinky fingers was caught in an airline armrest mechanism for nearly an hour during a flight to Los Angeles. City News Service reports Stephen Keys has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against both American Airlines Inc. and SkyWest Airlines Inc., alleging negligence. A representative for American, which has a flying agreement with SkyWest, referred all comment to SkyWest, which said, “We worked with our partner American to reach out to Mr. Keys regarding his bruised finger and look forward to swiftly resolving this matter. Due to the ongoing litigation, we cannot comment further.” The complaint says the injury to his finger left Keys unable to perform such previously routine tasks as driving and playing with ...
