WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he wants a battle-hardened commander who oversaw troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to be the nation's next top military adviser. If confirmed by the Senate, Gen. Mark Milley, who has been chief of the Army since August 2015, would succeed Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Dunford's term doesn't end until Oct. 1. Trump said the date of transition is "to be determined." Trump used an early morning tweet to reveal his choice. "I am thankful to both of these incredible men for their service to our Country!" he said. Later Saturday, as the president left the White House for the Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia, he called Milley "a great gentleman and a great patriot." ...
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Saturday that chief of staff John Kelly will leave his job by year’s end amid an expected West Wing reshuffling reflecting a focus on the 2020 re-election campaign and the challenge of governing with Democrats reclaiming control of the House. Nick Ayers, Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff, is Trump’s top choice to replace Kelly, and the two have held discussions for months about the job, a White House official said. An announcement was expected in the coming days, the president told reporters as he left the White House for the Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia. Kelly had been credited with imposing order on a chaotic West Wing after his arrival in June 2017 from his post as homeland security secretary. Bu...
WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI’s counterintelligence investigation into potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia initially focused on four Americans and whether they were connected to Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, former FBI Director James Comey told lawmakers during hours of closed-door questioning. Comey did not identify the Americans but said President Donald Trump, then the Republican candidate, was not among them. The House Judiciary Committee released a transcript of the interview on Saturday, just 24 hours after privately grilling the fired FBI chief about investigative decisions related to Hillary Clinton’s email server and Trump’s campaign and potential ties to Russia. The Russia investigation is now bein...

Shortly after the House vote, the Senate passed the measure on a voice vote extending the government’s funding through Dec. 21. President Trump has said he would sign the short-term extension. Seven spending bills are currently set to expire at 12:01 a.m. Shabbos, as lawmakers face an impasse over whether to increase funding for border security. Mr. Trump has demanded $5 billion to build a wall along the border with Mexico, but Democrats have balked. The Wall Street Journal

Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson set straight any misinformation concerning his views on President Donald Trump: “I don’t think he’s capable,” he said during an interview on Tuesday. Urs Gehriger, an editor at “Die Weltwoche,” Switzerland’s leading German-language opinion weekly, noted that Carlson’s new book, “Ship of Fools,” is silent on Trump but comments on his critics. And so, Gehriger jump-started the conversation by asking what Carlson thought of Trump’s first two years in office. Carlson said he cannot stand Trump’s self-aggrandizement and boasting. Then, when asked whether Trump has kept his promises, the usually quick-witted and long-winded Carlson had just one word: “No.” Although it has a...
President Trump on Friday unleashed a flurry of early-morning tweets aimed at special counsel Robert Mueller ahead of an expected filing later in the day concerning the case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. “Robert Mueller and Leakin’ Lyin’ James Comey are Best Friends, just one of many Mueller Conflicts of Interest,” Trump tweeted. “And bye the way, wasn’t the woman in charge of prosecuting Jerome Corsi (who I do not know) in charge of “legal” at the corrupt Clinton Foundation? A total Witch Hunt…” “….Will Robert Mueller’s big time conflicts of interest be listed at the top of his Republicans only Report,” Trump continued in a subsequent tweet. “Will Andrew Weissman’s h...
Jason Greenblatt, the US Special Representative for International Negotiations, on Thursday criticized the UN after it failed to approve a US-drafted resolution condemning the Hamas terrorist organization. “Absolutely shameful!! UN failed to condemn Hamas even after years of attacks via suicide bombings, kidnappings, missiles, and more against Israelis. The applause after the vote says it all. Hamas hurts Israelis, Palestinians and peace. When will the UN speak the truth???” tweeted Greenblatt. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo similarly criticized the global body for failing to condemn Hamas. “Just days after Hamas indiscriminately fired thousands of missiles at Israel’s citizens, the UN could not muster a resolution condemning this band of terrorists. This is y...

Calling Women of the Wall “a destructive phenomenon”, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri said that he was doing everything in his power to stop the feminist group from holding their monthly prayers at the Kosel. Deri was responding to a petition signed by hundreds of religious women that called on him to use his powers to stop Women of the Wall from holding their noisy Rosh Chodesh prayers at the Kosel. “For years, we have been warning of every stage and working with all the tools at our disposal to stop the destructive phenomenon of the Women of the Wall, whose sole purpose is to harm and humiliate the most sacred place for the Jewish people and to break the customs that have always existed in the area,” wrote Deri in response. Hamas on Thursday welcomed the failure of the US-drafted resolution to condemn it at the United Nations General Assembly, labelling the result a “slap” to US President Donald Trump’s administration. “The failure of the American venture at the United Nations represents a slap to the US administration and confirmation of the legitimacy of the resistance,” Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zahri wrote on Twitter, according to AFP. While the US resolution achieved a majority of 87 countries that voted in favor, that majority was not a two-thirds majority and thus the resolution was not approved. 57 countries voted against the resolution, and 33 countries abstained. WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. employers added 155,000 jobs in November, a slowdown from recent months but enough to suggest that the economy is expanding at a solid pace despite sharp gyrations in the stock market. The Labor Department said Friday that the unemployment rate remained 3.7%, nearly a five-decade low, for the third straight month. Average hourly pay rose 3.1% from a year ago, matching the previous month's figure, which was the best since 2009. The economy is expanding at a healthy pace, but rising trade tensions between the U.S. and China, ongoing interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve and weakening global growth have roiled financial markets. Analysts expect growth to slow but remain solid in 2019 as the impact of last year's tax cuts fade. The jobs figure...
One fed up resident in the Canton area of Baltimore City is putting out decoy packages for porch pirates with a surprise inside. Plus, the theft is captured on video and sent to police. Those stealing packages on this resident's street are in for a rude awakening. The only thing inside the box is a note. This one says "Congratulations, you are package thief number 21 to have your face recorded and passed to local authorities. Please recycle and reconsider your life choices." "Now, see, that's got an 'X' on it, see the 'X'? And when I come to the door, I know not to grab that and take it in the house," said Rosemarie Dumhart. The 'X' is a secret code devised by Dumhart and her neighbor, Rob. She takes packages without the X inside her house for saf...
Washington - President Donald Trump announced Friday he’s nominating State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. “Heather Nauert will be nominated,” Trump said Friday before departing the White House on Marine One for an event in Kansas City. “She’s very talented, very smart, very quick, and I think she’s going to be respected by all.” If she is confirmed by the Senate, Nauert, a former Fox News Channel reporter who had little foreign policy experience before becoming State Department spokeswoman, will replace Nikki Haley. Haley, a former South Carolina governor, announced in October that she would step down at the end of this year. Nauert would be a leading administration voice on Trump&rsquo...

A Jewish Queens city councilwoman was sent a hate-filled, anti-Semitic letter that makes a reference to the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre, she told the NEW YORK POST on Thursday. Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz (D-Forest Hills) opened the typed, more-than-a-page-long letter at her district office last Thursday and was disturbed by the contents. “It has very vulgar language. I was very offended by it and taken aback, especially now with everything that’s going on,” Koslowitz said Thursday. The letter, filled with grammatical errors, was dated Nov. 12 and mailed to 250 Broadway in Manhattan, where the City Council has hearings and officers. It begins “Dear Karen.” “You had been defending all stinky, filthy, dirty jewish population in New York Cit...
