I was pleased to receive the government’s decision to recommend that the President of Israel appoint me as Governor of the Bank of Israel.
I would like to thank the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, and the government of Israel for the trust they have placed in me. It is a tremendous honor for me to fill the position of Governor, which has been filled over the years by the best economists in Israel. Bnei Brak - Outgoing defense minister Avigdor Lieberman was seen in Bnei Brak after visiting Sar HaTorah HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, shlita.
The purpose of the visit was not clear, but some Israeli media are reporting that Lieberman came to write a letter in a Sefer Torah that is being dedicated by his family member.

New York - Germany is shirking its responsibility for the Holocaust by dragging its heels on returning art confiscated by the Nazis, and failing to crack down on resurgent anti-Semitism, the head of the World Jewish Congress said on Sunday.
Ronald Lauder told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that other countries, including Britain, the United States and Austria had a far better record in documenting art in their collections that had been confiscated by the Nazi regime and returning any looted pieces to their rightful owners.

An Israeli product was recognized in the latest issue of TIME magazine as one of the best inventions of the year.
Included in TIME magazine’s list, titled “Best Inventions 2018,” is the Nanobébé, which the magazine described as a “better baby bottle.” The product was launched in February 2013 by longtime friends and biomedical engineers Ayal Lanternari and Asaf Kehat to help breastfeeding moms.

A tweet published by The Daily Telegraph’s Middle East correspondent on Thursday revealed the lengths the Israeli military went to in order to not harm Palestinian civilians during the surge of violence in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip earlier this week.

Prime Minister Netanyahu's office said on Sunday that Netanyahu would be willing to give Education Minister Naftali Bennett the defense portfolio in place of outgoing Minister Avigdor Liberman, Channel 2 reported.However, the assumption in the political establishment is that the transfer of the defense portfolio to Bennett will be contingent on a commitment on the part of him and his party to remain in the government until the end of this term, in November 2019.
This morning, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked referred to her party's demand to place the defense portfolio in the hands of Minister Naftali Bennett as a condition for the continued existence of the government.

Buenos Aires - The Argentine Navy submarine that went missing a year ago off the country’s Atlantic Coast was found by a private company involved in what had been a massive search for the vessel and its 44-member crew, the defense ministry said in a news conference on Saturday.
The ARA San Juan submarine was discovered by marine tracking contractor Ocean Infinity, 907 meters (2,975 feet) below the ocean surface. The vessel was found in an underwater canyon with its tail partially “imploded,” Argentina’s Defense Minister Carlos Aguad said.
Given the poor visibility at the site, the ministry said it only had preliminary information about the state of the submarine, which was scattered in pieces on the ocean floor.

Washington - Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa is giving up the chairmanship of the Senate Judiciary Committee after shepherding 84 of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees through the confirmation process over the past two years, including Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
Grassley said he plans to become chairman of the Senate Finance Committee next year. To do that, he’ll have to give up the gavel of the Judiciary Committee, which he has held since 2015. Democrats have accused Grassley of unfairly disregarding Senate protocols and courtesies to get Trump’s nominees confirmed.

Bronx, NY - Police say almost two dozen people were injured when a New York City bus crashed into a fire truck with sirens and lights on responding to an emergency.
The 23 victims — including the bus driver and all five firefighters — were treated for minor injuries after the accident Friday in the Bronx.
Authorities say the Fire Department vehicle was responding to a medical emergency in the borough’s Tremont neighborhood around noon when it turned into the path of the bus. The impact shattered the window by the driver’s seat, sending debris flying onto the road.
The accident is under investigation. No charges have been filed.

Pittsburgh, PA - Federal authorities misrepresented a social media connection between the suspect in last month’s Pittsburgh synagogue massacre and a man whose relatives reported concerns about his behavior after the shooting to the FBI, a defense attorney said Friday.
A public defender representing Jeffrey Clark Jr. asked a federal magistrate to free the 30-year-old man from custody while he awaits trial on gun-related charges in Washington, D.C. Magistrate Judge G. Michael Harvey refused, ordering Clark held without bail.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with his Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon on Sunday in a last ditch effort to save his government.
Netanyahu’s current coalition was shattered last week when Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman resigned in protest over what he described as Israel’s capitulation to Hamas terrorism after Netanyahu accepted a ceasefire following hundreds of rockets fired at Israel’s south.
Soon after, the Jewish Home party announced that it would leave the coalition if its leader Naftali Bennett were not appointed Lieberman’s successor. An Israeli military officer who was seriously wounded in last Sunday’s blown special forces mission inside the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip was released from Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba on Friday.
In Sunday’s incident, another IDF officer — Lt. Col. M — was killed. Six Palestinian terrorists, including a local Hamas commander, also lost their lives in the exchange of fire that erupted after a group of elite Israeli soldiers conducting an undercover mission were exposed deep in enemy territory.
A doctor at Soroka said the wounded officer, after undergoing a complex surgical procedure and being held in an intensive care unit, was sent home on Friday in “good condition for rehabilitation.”

A measles outbreak is raging in various frum communities on the East Coast. As of Motzoei Shabbos, there are 75 confirmed cases in Rockland County (in New Square, Monsey, and Spring Valley), 24 confirmed cases in Brooklyn (in Boro Park and Williamsburg), and 14 confirmed cases with another 12 under investigation in Ocean County (in Lakewood).
The current outbreak has been traced to Eretz Yisroel, which has more than 1,500 measles cases and one child fatality from complications from the virus.
According to Lohud.com, Israel’s outbreak can be traced to people who have traveled to other areas experiencing outbreaks, especially the Ukraine, where the World Health Organization said there are over 23,000 people affected.
