WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump is wrongly claiming North Korea has agreed to "denuclearization" before his potential meeting with Kim Jong Un. North Korea said Friday it would suspend nuclear tests and intercontinental ballistic missile launches before summits with the U.S. and South Korea. Kim also said a nuclear test site would be closed and "dismantled." The North stopped short of suggesting it has any intention of abandoning its nuclear arsenal. But Trump tweeted Sunday that the North has "agreed to denuclearization (so great for World), site closure, & no more testing!" South Korea's president has said Kim isn't asking for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Korean Peninsula as a condition for abandoning his nuclear weapons. If true, it w...
Israeli Air Force experiences drastic leap in capabilities with purchase of the Seahawk, the sibling of the venerable Blackhawk helicopter. Israel has purchased through the US government’s Foreign Military Sales Program 8 ex US Navy Seahawks. This purchase was made back in 2016 as the US Navy phased out the SH-60F in favor of a newer platform such as the MH-60R. When this purchase materializes and these helicopters start flying over the Israeli coastline, the IAF will experience a leap forward in capabilities despite the fact that the Seahawk helicopters it has purchased are actually older than the current platform it operates – the SA365 “Panther”. The Seahawk is manufactured by Sikorsky and is the sibling of the venerable Blackhawk. The benefits this helicopte...
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates again has accused Qatari military fighter jets of coming dangerously close to an Emirati commercial airliner landing in Bahrain. Qatar did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority said the alleged incident happened Sunday morning with a flight carrying 86 passengers. The UAE alleged that "Qatari fighter jets flew very close to the Emirati aircraft, less than 700 feet (210 meters), leaving just a few seconds to the captain to maneuver." The Dubai-based newspaper Gulf News identified the affected flight as Emirates flight No. EK837. Emirates declined to comment. This marks just the latest allegations between Qatar and the UAE over their flights and airspace ...
In an op-ed published Thursday in The New York Times, three European parliamentarians argued that the United States Congress should preserve the nuclear deal with Iran. Parliamentarians Delphine O of France, Omid Nouripour of Germany, and Richard Bacon of Britain argued that the nuclear deal, or Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is “the most important and promising step taken toward nonproliferation in the past 20 years,” and that it serves as a “safeguard against a nuclear Middle East.” The assertion that the JCPOA strengthens nonproliferation is demonstrably false. Rather than being a step towards nonproliferation, the nuclear deal undermined the nonproliferation regime by demonstrating that a serial nuclear cheater could be allowed a...

Hezbollah leader threatens Israel again as tensions with Iran continue. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah threatened Israel again on Saturday, claiming his group has rockets that could hit all of Israel. “The forces of the resistance today have the ability, the power and the missiles to hit any target in Israel,” said Nasrallah. Nasrallah’s deputy, Naim Qassem, warned several days ago that Iran would respond to an air strike on a military base in Syria which was attributed to Israel and in which seven Iranian personnel were killed. "The elimination of the Iranians by Israel at the airbase will be met with a response,” Qassem told Al-Mayadeen TV. Israel Katz thus holds Hamas responsible for Islamic Jihad’s threats to kill Israeli soldiers and generals Israel’s Intelligence minister, Israel Katz, said on Friday that targeted killings of Hamas leadership will be renewed if Islamic Jihad follows through on Thursday’s threats to kill Israeli soldiers and generals. “The threats by the PIJ Terror organization to shoot at IDF officers by snipers from Gaza, constitutes crossing a red line. Hamas must know that any attack on IDF commanders at the border to Gaza will immediately lead to a renewal of targeted killings of the Hamas leadership.” Katz thus holds Hamas responsible for Islamic Jihad’s video which shows fighters from the militant group lining up their sniper rifles on a staircase and t...
NEW YORK (AP) — The Justice Department has opened an antitrust investigation into whether AT&T, Verizon and a standards-setting group worked together to stop consumers from easily switching wireless carriers. The companies confirmed the inquiry in separate statements late Friday in response to a report in The New York Times. The U.S. government is looking into whether AT&T, Verizon and telecommunications standards organization GSMA worked together to suppress a technology that lets people remotely switch wireless companies without having to insert a new SIM card into their phones. The Times, citing six anonymous people familiar with the inquiry, reported that the investigation was opened after at least one device maker and one other wireless company filed complai...

BEIRUT (AP) — Chemical weapons inspectors collected samples from Syria's Douma on Saturday, two weeks after a suspected gas attack there followed by retaliatory strikes by Western powers on the Syrian government's chemical facilities. The site visit, confirmed by the Organization of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, would allow the agency to proceed with an independent investigation to determine what chemicals, if any, were used in the April 7 attack that medical workers said killed more than 40 people. Douma was the final target of the government's sweeping campaign to seize back control of the eastern Ghouta suburbs of Damascus from rebels after seven years of revolt. Militants gave up the town days after the alleged attack. The U.S., France, and Britain blamed...
Former first lady Barbara Bush has been laid to rest at her husband's presidential library in Texas. Family spokesman Jim McGrath says the ceremony was "a very brief but poignant and beautiful ending to a very moving and incredible day. It would have been exactly what Barbara Bush wanted." Bush, were among four former U.S. presidents at the service. Barbara Bush was buried in a gated plot at her husband's presidential library at Texas A&M University in College Station, which is about 100 miles (161 kilometers) from Houston. The couple's daughter Robin is also buried there. She wa...
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea announced that it will suspend nuclear tests and intercontinental ballistic missile launches ahead of its summits with Seoul and Washington, but stopped short of suggesting it has any intention of giving up its hard-won nuclear arsenal. The announcement, which sets the table for further negotiations when the summits begin, was made by leader Kim Jong Un at a meeting of the North Korean ruling party's Central Committee on Friday. It was reported by the North's state-run media early Saturday. Kim justified the suspension to his party by saying the situation around North Korea has been rapidly changing "in favor of the Korean revolution" since he announced last year that his country had completed its nuclear forces. He said North Korea ...
PHOENIX (AP) — U.S. health officials on Friday told consumers to throw away any store-bought romaine lettuce they have in their kitchens and warned restaurants not to serve it amid an E. coli outbreak that has sickened more than 50 people in several states. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expanded its warning about tainted romaine from Arizona, saying information from new illnesses led it to caution against eating any forms of the lettuce that may have come from the city of Yuma. Officials have not found the origin of the contaminated vegetables. Previously, CDC officials had only warned against chopped romaine by itself or as part of salads and salad mixes. But they are now extending the risk to heads or hearts of romaine lettuce. People at an Alaska correctio...
