Just hours before the start of Agudath Israel of America’s 18th annual Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah, hundreds of participants gathered in Bnei Brak on Sunday night for a pre-opening event held at Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center. Torrential rains did nothing to dampen the spirits of those who came to the reception held in a magnificent tent outside the state of the art 300 bed hospital which prides itself on providing high level, halachically appropriate medical care. With many travelers having just arrived in Eretz Yisroel for the Yarchei Kallah, orchestrated by the Agudah’s Torah Projects Commission, participants headed directly to the hospital which was founded in 1990 to serve the more than 100,000 residents of the Bnei Brak area. The program began with Tehillim for passeng...

Israeli leaders slammed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Monday for a fiery, invective-filled speech against President Donald Trump, in which he proclaimed the U.S. role as arbiter of the Mideast conflict over, attacked the administration's envoys and described Israel as a colonial conspiracy. Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Abbas had "lost his senses" and had given up on the prospect of peace negotiations in favor of open confrontation with both Israel and the United States. Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett, head of the pro-settler Jewish Home Party, said the speech represented Abbas' swan song. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a trip to India, said Abbas had "tore off the mask" and exposed what he called the truth. "The root of the confli...
The Israeli government announced Monday that it would no longer permit members of the Hamas terrorist group or their immediate family members in Gaza to enter Israel with entry permits issued out of humanitarian concerns, including to seek medical treatment in Israeli hospitals, as opposed to medical facilities in the Gaza Strip. The announcement was made Monday after the government acknowledged to the Supreme Court that it had hitherto not fully implemented a security cabinet decision which included sanctions targeting Hamas leadership. Last November, a legal team assembled by the Goldin family accused the government of not implementing the cabinet decision, and filed an appeal with the Supreme Court to intervene. In August 2014, IDF soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul were killed dur...
JAKARTA, Indonesia — A mezzanine floor inside the Jakarta Stock Exchange tower collapsed on Monday, injuring nearly 80 people and forcing a chaotic evacuation. Security camera footage circulated online showed the collapse, with a group of people plunging several meters (feet) to the ground as the structure gave way beneath them. People fled the building through a lobby strewn with debris. Emergency personnel tended to the injured on the grass and pavement outside the tower. National police spokesman Setyo Wasisto said most of the injured were college students from Palembang in Sumatra who were visiting the stock exchange as part of a study tour. Wasisto ruled out terrorism as a cause of the collapse. “There is no bomb element in the incident,” he said. Figures rel...
HONOLULU (AP) — It was a beautiful Hawaii morning: nice breeze, blue skies, birds chirping. Then terror struck. We were up early, my daughter and I, because this Saturday morning was her first day of ice skating lessons, a day we had been talking about and looking forward to for months. We were also having construction done in our Honolulu apartment, which sits atop a hill overlooking the Nuuanu Valley and, in the distance, Pearl Harbor. So, I had been frantically clearing out the living room and covering our things with sheets so they wouldn't be smothered in sawdust. We got her skating clothes on and tacked up the living room, and I was just about to hop in the shower when, around 8:07 a.m., my phone started the aggressive, long pulsating tone that normally accompanies a fl...
HONOLULU — The missile threat mistakenly sent Saturday by Hawaii officials came just a few minutes after a shift change at state Emergency Operations Center in Diamond Head Crater. Here's a timeline of what happened: 8:05 a.m. — Workers initiate routine test of the emergency alert system. 8:07 a.m. — A worker mistakenly hits the button to send the emergency warning reading: "BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL." 8:10 a.m. — The head of the Emergency Management Agency, state adjutant general Maj. Gen. Joe Logan, confirms with U.S. Pacific Command that there was no missile launch. Honolulu police are notified of the false alarm. 8:13 a.m. — The state issues a cancellation that prevents the message from...

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has described US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace efforts as the “slap of the century”. Speaking to Palestinian faction leaders in Ramallah on Sunday, he said: “The deal of the century is the slap of the century and we will not accept it.” He also accused Israel itself of putting an end to the Oslo Accords, which began the peace process in 1995. The Palestinian president railed at President Donald Trump in a fiery, two-hour-long speech on Sunday, saying "shame on you" for his treatment of the Palestinians and warning that he would have no problem rejecting what he suggested would be an unacceptable peace plan. The speech by Mahmoud Abbas ratcheted up what has been more than a month of harsh rhetoric toward Trump since the president's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Relations between Washington and the Palestinians have sunk to a new low, boding poorly for a peace plan the White House has promised to present. Speaking to the Palestinian Central Council, a decision-making body, Abbas repeated the Palestinians' opposition to Trump's Jerusalem recognition and censured Trump for accusing th...
President Trump made his first public comments since the false alarm of a ballistic missile heading toward Hawaii, saying he thought it was “terrific” that the state took responsibility for the error. “That was a state thing but we are going to now get involved with them. I love that they took responsibility. They took total responsibility,” Trump told reporters Sunday. “But we are going to get involved. Their attitude and their — I think it is terrific. They took responsibility. They made a mistake,” he continued. Read more at The Hill.
Introduction Ramban in this Parsha has many classical comments, especially the last Ramban in the parsha which is a foundation of the fundamentals of the Torah, and I hope to spend some time on that with that. We will go over some well known ideas and hopefully add a few fascinating concepts as well, as they pertain to our ikarei haemunah. 1) “Ra’ah” The Evil Star of Blood Pharaoh says a very famous line in response to Moshe’s requestt to take the Jews out to go serve Hashem on a little excursion in the Midbar. “Ki ra’ah neged pineichem” (Shemos 10:10). There is evil opposite your faces. Rashi makes two comments on this pasuk.  One of them is he says, “K’Targumo,” like the Targum says. Ramban replies and says: I would love...
Joel & Yechiel Were Best Friends Until One Day It All Came Crashing Down. .
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is preparing to withhold tens of millions of dollars from the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, cutting the year's first contribution by more than half or perhaps entirely, and making additional donations contingent on major changes to the organization, according to U.S. officials. President Donald Trump hasn't made a final decision, but appears more likely to send only $60 million of the planned $125 million first installment to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, said the officials, who weren't authorized to publicly discuss the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity. Future contributions would require the agency, facing heavy Israeli criticism, to demonstrate significant changes in operations, they said, adding that one ...
As the manhunt continues for the terrorist who killed Israeli father of six Raziel Shevah in Samaria earlier this week, Israeli security forces are bracing for violence. Israeli forces surrounded the Palestinian city of Nablus and nearby villages overnight Thursday, arresting 18 wanted Palestinians across the West Bank as part of efforts to apprehend the shooter who killed Shevah. Security checkpoints at the entrances and exits to Nablus as well as its environs remained in place on Friday as the search for Shevah’s shooter was ongoing. On Thursday, a 16-year-old Palestinian was killed in a clash in the village of Bureen, near Nablus, the Pa...
