Rashi in Parshas VaYaitzei tells us that when a Tzaddik dwells in a town, he is its glory.. he is its beauty.. he is its grandeur.
Nafla ateres rosheinu – the crown of our heads has fallen. One of the tzaddikim of the Five Towns /Far Rockaway community, Rav Aharon Brafman zatzal, was definitely all of that and more. He was a Tzaddik in every sense of the word.
The Five Towns/ Far Rockaway community is now a different place now that he has passed away. It is a community that was visibly changed by his presence here for close to five decades.
He was one of those rare, rare individuals that combined profound erudition in his Torah knowledge, deep humility in his character and deportment, and a heart whose remarkable compassion for others knew no bounds.

The New Hampshire Republican Party says “malcontents” are responsible for spraying the word “Nazis” inside a hand-drawn heart on the rear of his headquarters building in Concord.
The vandalism happened sometime after 6 p.m. Wednesday and was discovered early Thursday when staff came to open the office, party adviser Patrick Hynes said. Staffers attempted to wash away the word off, but it was clearly visible. Someone also tossed a rock through a window, but there was no interior damage and the building wasn’t broken into.

IDF forces working with border police and agents of the Civil Administration during the night of 25 Menachem Av (Wednesday to Thursday), destroyed the home of the terrorist who carried out an attack in Jerusalem on 16 June 2017 in which border policewoman Sgt. Hadas Malka HY”D was murdered.
Malka fell in the line of duty in the multi-pronged attack, but not before she managed to fire and kill some of the attackers.

Police in Finland have shot a man who reportedly stabbed several people in the city of Turku.
Witnesses reporting hearing multiple gunshots and seeing at least one person lying lifeless on the ground at the city center’s market square.
At least two people more people have been injured, according to Finland’s national broadcaster Yle.
a local newspaper is reporting that at least one person has been killed – with a reporter at the scene said the body on the ground had been covered.
The severity of injuries of other people involved in the attack is not currently known. Footage from the scene shows people fleeing the area and people shouting in fear.

MADRID (Reuters) - Two men arrested after a van attack in Barcelona which killed at least 13 people on Thursday were connected to the incident but neither was the driver of the vehicle, police said.
Police confirmed that another man who ran over two officers at a checkpoint in Barcelona was shot dead, but added that it did not appear that the incident was linked to the van attack.
The driver of the van which mowed people down on the busy Las Ramblas avenue left the vehicle on foot and did not appear to be armed, a Catalan police official told a news conference.
They said that one of the two men arrested was Moroccan and the other was from the Spanish enclave of Melilla in North Africa. They were arrested in two different towns in the region of Catalonia, Ripoll and Alcanar.

Charlottesville, Va. — The mother of a woman who was killed while protesting a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, said Friday that she won’t talk to President Donald Trump because of comments he made after her daughter’s death.
Speaking on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Susan Bro said she initially missed the first few calls to her from the White House. A Lakewood child is lucky to be alive after two men allegedly picked him up and locked him in a vehicle. A second child is being credited for saving his life, TLS reports.
According to sources, while playing outside his home earlier this week, the 4-year-old was apparently alone for several moments when two men spotted him, picked him up and placed him inside a vehicle and locked the safety locks – trapping the young boy inside.
A second child, approximately the same age, saw the boy in the car and immediately notified the boy’s parent. Luckily, the boy was removed from the sweltering vehicle within minutes.
An immediate search of the area for the suspects turned out with negative results.

Barcelona police arrest two suspects in Barcelona van attack, but say neither is the driver.
Two men who were arrested after Thursday’s van attack in Barcelona, which killed at least 13 people, were connected to the incident but neither was the driver of the vehicle, police said, according to Reuters.
Police confirmed that in a separate incident, another man who ran over two officers at a checkpoint in Barcelona was shot dead. That incident was apparently not linked to the van attack, they said.

Emergency services were alerted at about 1:30PM on Wednesday, 25 Menachem Av, of a scaffolding collapse at a construction site on Silver Street in Nahariya. As a result of the accident, three construction workers fell to the ground below.
One of the workers, 25, was pronounced dead on the scene as a result of the fall and being trapped under the rubble. EMTs and paramedics of United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom operated on the scene.
MDA paramedics transported one worker, 29, in serious condition while the second was listed in light condition. They were transported to Nahariya Hospital.

Israel’s High Court of Justice ruled that a woman can head Israel’s batei din, the rabbinical courts affiliated with the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. Court Vice President Justice Elyakim Rubinstein pointed out that today, women occupy many honorable positions in the public service and there is no reason that a woman cannot run the nation’s rabbinical courts.
Women’s rights organizations praised the ruling. Experts point out that the position is a managerial one more than it is a halachic post.

The city of Tel Aviv on Thursday night showed solidarity with Spain following the terrorist attack in Barcelona, lighting the municipality’s building, located at Rabin Square, with the colors of the Spanish flag.
The building has in the past been illuminated with the flags of other countries following previous terrorist attacks, most recently in May, when the building was lit with the colors of the Egyptian flag following a shooting attack against Coptic Christians in Cairo.

Spanish police killed four terror suspects in Cambrils. It is unclear if they were connected to the Barcelona van attack.
Police in Spain announced overnight Thursday they had killed several people in an anti-terror operation in Cambrils, south of Barcelona, Fox News reports.
The report cited state-owned broadcaster RTVE as having said police killed four people and injured another, after police suspected they were planning a second terror attack.
It was not immediately clear how or if the suspects killed in Cambrils were connected to an earlier van attack in Barcelona.
At least 13 people were killed and 100 injured in the earlier attack, which took place when a van drove into a crowd on the busy Las Ramblas avenue.
