The multitudes of Yidden who were davening for the release of Yitzchok ben Shulamis saw their tefillos answered when, Bichasdei Hashem, Yitzchok returned home safely to Lakewood on Sunday. Yitzchok, who learned in Eretz Yisroel for the past 3 years, was on his way home to his family before Pesach in March, on a flight with a 2-hour stopover in Moscow. When Russian authorities examined his luggage during a routine security check, they found a souvenir item from Israel which he had innocently packed, not realizing that it was a problem to transport this item through Russia, despite it being legal for him to transport this item in checked luggage on a flight to the United States. At most international airports, a finding like this would result in the traveler having to fill out a ...

Over the course of years, the exercise recommendations for good health seems to change every few years. If you are old enough, you probably remember when the recommendation for aerobic exercise was to walk 20 minutes, 3 times a week.  Of course, what we know today from ongoing research and what we knew 45 years ago are worlds apart.  That 20 minutes became 30 minutes which became more than 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise most days of the week.  In 2008, we got the following instructions for how much exercise we should be doing to reap substantial health benefits;  all Americans should perform at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity—or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity—aerobic physical activity each week. Yaacov Meir is a 51 year old skype client...
A group of former top Israeli security officials are speaking out in favor of a proposed congressional bill that would cut off American funding of the Palestinian Authority if it continues to pay monetary rewards to terrorists and their families. In a letter that was seen by The Algemeiner, Brig. Gen. (ret.) Yosef Kuperwasser wrote that a failure to pass the Taylor Force Act would mark a “surrender to terror.” Providing the PA with money that enables its terror payments is “illogical, illegal and immoral,” Kuperwasser said. “Most of all it’s inhuman.” The letter — which Kuperwasser said was cosigned by ex-Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon and ex-National Security Adviser Uzi Dayan, as well as Maj. Gen. (ret.) Gershon Hacohen and ...
Japanese air bag maker Takata Corp. is expected to file for bankruptcy protection in Japan and the U.S. on Monday, having been dragged into financial trouble by millions of faulty air bag inflators that can kill or injure people. The inflators, which fill up air bags in the event of a crash, can explode with too much force and spew metal shrapnel. At least 16 deaths worldwide and more than 180 injuries are blamed on the inflators. They also touched off the largest automotive recall in U.S. history, that began in 2008, with up to 69 million inflators and 42 million vehicles affected. Worldwide, about 100 million inflators are being recalled. What car owners need to know about the massive recall: WILL THE RECALLS CONTINUE? Yes. Automakers are ultimately responsible for the safety...

Yesh Atid opposition party leader MK Yair Lapid announced his party is centrist and he will not join a left-wing block in Knesset. Speaking to Channel 2 News, Lapid explained he will not interfere with left-wing efforts to organize, but his party will not be a part of it. He added his reason for entering politics was not merely to oust Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, but the party has an agenda. He cited that he was a cabinet member during the last IDF military operation in Gaza, Operation Protective Edge; explaining, “I looked at all of us in a very powerful decision-making position and determined who is cool, who can make decisions, who understands the full width of the situation and who is not, and I can manage it better.” He added he is in regular contact wit...
Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked called on Israel’s attorney general Avichai Mandelblit to open a criminal investigation against “Bladna,” an Israeli-Arab non-profit organization that she says incites Druse youth against IDF enlistment. “Incitement against IDF enlistment is not only a violation of the law, but harms the cultural fabric and ethos of Israeli society,” said Shaked. “It is inconceivable that this illegal activity occurs under the noses and with the backing of elected officials.” Shaked’s statement came in response to a report released by the Im Tirtzu organization, which claimed that Bladna’s anti-enlistment activities were in violation of the law because they targeted Druse youth who are required to serve in the I...
One shirt, one pair of pants. Those are the basics for outfitting an Afghan soldier. But in that simple uniform combination are the threads of two troubling stories — one about the waste of millions in American taxpayer dollars, the other about the perils of propping up a partner army in a seemingly endless war. Together these tales help explain why some in Congress question the wisdom of investing even more resources in Afghanistan, nearly 16 years after the United States invaded the Taliban-ruled country in response to the al-Qaida attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The Army general who runs the U.S. war effort in Afghanistan calls it a stalemate. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says the U.S. is “not winning,” and he vows to “correct this as soon as possible.&rdq...
Rabbi Nachum Rabinovich, Shlita, the Av Beis Din of the Giyur K’halacha Beis Din, has come out against a draft of a bill that would ensure that the key to Jewish conversion is kept exclusively within the hands of the national conversion department at the Israel Chief Rabbinate. The summary of the bill, named “National Conversion Law in Israel,” was discussed at the Ministerial Committee on Legislation on Sunday, 1 Tammuz). Rabbi Rabinovich has sent a letter calling on ministers to prevent the bill from being passed into law. The draft legislation, written by chareidi parties, is intended to subvert a High Court of Justice ruling delivered only a year ago. At the time, the court said that private conversions in Orthodox religious courts conducted in the framewo...
Matthew Howard Sr. was just leaving a New York amusement park Saturday evening with his family when he heard someone screaming for help. He looked up to see a young girl dangling about 25 feet (about 8 meters) off the ground from a slow-moving gondola ride. Her little brother sat next to her in the green two-person pod, crying hysterically, saying he couldn’t hold on. Howard, 47, and his 21-year-old daughter, Leeann Winchell, positioned themselves under the girl as the ride stopped and security came running. A crowd of onlookers gathered, many filming, others calling for help. “I said: ‘It’s ‘OK! It’s OK to let go, I’ll catch you, honey,'” said Howard. The girl lost her grip and fell down where Howard and Winchell, arms outs...
On Thursday night 28 Sivan, Channel 2 published recordings provided by the Im Tirtzu organization in which Hebrew University professor, Dr. Ofer Cassif, equated Israel with Nazi Germany during one of his classes, insisting that it was a “fact.” Im Tirtzu CEO Matan Peleg said that this is further proof of the need of an academic code of ethics. “Comparing the State of Israel to the most wicked regime in the history of mankind is not only a disgusting display of anti-Israel propaganda, but something more severe than Holocaust denial,” said Peleg. “This is further proof of the need to fully implement the academic code of ethics, which will restore pluralism and diversity to academia.” Peleg added: “We are calling on Education Minister Nafta...
A federal judge in Detroit will consider whether to put a temporary national halt on the deportation of Iraqi nationals recently rounded up by U.S. authorities. Judge Mark Goldsmith will hold a hearing Monday on the request by the American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU wants to expand its case beyond the roughly 114 detainees arrested in the Detroit area. It says there could be more than 1,000 detainees nationwide. Goldsmith signed a 14-day freeze Thursday. He said he needed time to determine if he has jurisdiction. The detainees fear they could be persecuted in Iraq, which has agreed to accept them. They want to suspend the deportations so they can further argue that their removal would be dangerous. The U.S. government says they’re being deported because they committed...
Israel on Sunday retaliated to Syrian rocket fire into the Golan Heights for a second consecutive day. The rocket fire is attributed to spillover from the ongoing civil war in that country. While there were no reported causalities from Sunday’s retaliatory strike, Syrian media outlets did report a number of people were killed in Saturday’s air force strike. The IDF on Sunday announced two Syrian artillery positions were targeted along with an ammunitions truck. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at the start of the Sunday cabinet meeting announced “…We are not prepared to accept any spillover or trickle of fire from any front whatsoever. We will respond strongly to any firing at our territory”. After Sunday’s attacks the Syrian army issued a stat...

Remarks made by the rav during a recent shiur have some wondering. Rabbi Mazuz stated “political machlokes must be put aside and there must be achdus ahead of the next election”. The rav stated “We daven that these days, the Three Weeks, disappear from the world. Enough! Israel has suffered from the galus but we have to do something for this [to occur]. “We must unite. There is news and no one knows when the next elections ca be. If we remain battling one another- we must unit and we must show the non-religious that the Torah unites. “Even when there are different opinions there is the possibility of ...

A secretive Washington firm that commissioned the dubious intelligence dossier on Donald Trump is stonewalling congressional investigators trying to learn more about its connections to the Democratic Party. The Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this month threatened to subpoena the firm, Fusion GPS, after it refused to answer questions and provide records to the panel identifying who financed the error-ridden dossier, which was circulated during the election and has sparked much of the Russia scandal now engulfing the White House. What is the company hiding? Fusion GPS describes itself as a “research and strategic intelligence firm” founded by “three former Wall Street Journal investigative reporters.” But congressional sources say it’s actually a...
The jihadis’ targets in Europe are depressingly repetitive: the Brussels metro, the Champs-Elysees in Paris (twice), tourist-filled bridges in London (twice) and a U.K. rock concert. And that’s just the past few months. The steady stream of attacks on centers of daily life have drawn pledges from Europeans not to let terrorists change how they live, but in ways large and small they already have. There is a heightened awareness and quicker reactions, especially in the hardest-hit countries of France, Britain and Belgium, that would have seemed unthinkable just a few years ago. In Brussels on Tuesday, a 36-year-old Moroccan man shouting “Allahu akbar!” set off a bomb among subway commuters. The bomb didn’t detonate in full and a soldier shot him dead. It was...
