Hours after Donald Trump promised to kill the Air Force One procurement program, Boeing Chief Executive Dennis A. Muilenburg spoke with the president-elect on Tuesday, promising to work with the new administration and to keep the costs of the program down, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. Early on Tuesday, Trump tweeted that the costs of the program "are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!" Later he told reporters that he thought the cost was "ridiculous. I think Boeing is doing a little bit of a number. We want Boeing to make a lot of money, but not that much money." The comments sent a shiver through the defense and aerospace industries, which had seen their stock prices soar after Trump's election. Trump had pledged that he would rebui...
Police in New York City say they've arrested a would-be mugger whose attempt to steal a Holocaust survivor's purse was thwarted when the then-90-year-old woman fought back. Forty-nine-year-old Lillian Maduro was arrested Monday and charged with robbery and assault in connection with the Sept. 27 incident in Greenwich Village. Authorities say Maduro sneaked up behind Gina Zuckerman and tried to grab her bag from her utility cart. Zuckerman was knocked down during the assault, but...read more at FOX News
This week, a North Carolina man took an AR-15 rifle into D.C.'s Comet Ping Pong pizza restaurant to "self-investigate" a fake internet conspiracy theory involving Hillary Clinton, John Podesta and a child sex ring. It's the latest example of the impact that "fake news" -- untrue or wildly misleading stories masquerading as fact, usually to appeal to a particular worldview -- is having on the real world. Numerous reports have highlighted how fake news creators began targeting conservative readers after finding them receptive to stories that reinforced their existing worldview. As one fake news creator told NPR, "We've tried to do [fake news with] liberals. It just has never worked, it never takes off. You'll get debunked within the first two comments and then...
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - A Pakistan International Airlines passenger plane with more than 40 people aboard crashed Wednesday shortly after taking off in northern Pakistan, authorities said. The PIA plane had departed from Chitral, near the Afghan border about 175 miles northwest of Islamabad, when it lost contact with ground controllers. Rescue teams were dispatched to a mountainous region believed to be the scene of the crash, but there were no immediate details on the cause or possible casualties, the spokesman for Pakistan's civil aviation agency, Pervez George, told the Reuters news agency. PIA said about 40 people were aboard the Islamabad-bound ATR-42, a twin-turboprop build by a European consortium. But civil aviation officials said there were 47 passengers and crew. ...
President-elect Donald Trump, the real estate businessman and political novice whose election campaign made the entire world take notice, has been selected as TIME’s 2016 Person of the Year. The magazine revealed its choice Wednesday on TODAY. "To be on the cover of Time as Person of the Year is a tremendous honor," Trump told Matt Lauer in an interview after the reveal. The President-elect did however take issue with the magazine's choice to refer to him as "President of the Divided States of America." "When you say 'divided states of America,' I didn’t divide them," Trump said. "They’re divided now, there’s a lot of division. And we’re going to put it back together." Every year, TIME editors select the person — or idea — who h...

The Supreme Court today handed Samsung a victory in its legal battle against Apple, which accused its rival phone manufacturer of copying the design of the iPhone. A jury had previously awarded Apple $399 million, after it ruled that Samsung had copied some of the iPhone’s shape and appearance. But in a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court ruled that Samsung did not owe Apple losses for the full cost of the phone; rather just for the elements that had been ruled to infringe copyright. The decision, written by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, will likely mean a reduced award for Apple. The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit will decide how much of the original $399 million award Samsung must pay. Read more at the NEW YORK TIMES.
President-elect Donald Trump sold all his shares in companies in June, his spokesman said Tuesday, a move that could have created a cash windfall as he ramped up to begin a costly general election presidential campaign that at the time he claimed he would personally support with “major contributions.” The sell-off could help address conflict-of-interest worries about his stock portfolio, a sizable part of Trump’s financial life that was worth roughly as much as $40 million as of December 2015, a May disclosure filing shows. Trump’s stock portfolio, the May filing shows, included shares in a number of banks, oil giants and other companies with business pending before the U.S. government and whose value could rise due to Trump’s decisions in office. Those sto...
In the six years since enactment of the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have sworn that, given the chance, they would "repeal and replace" it. Now they need to deliver. Repeal should be relatively simple. Enacting a replacement and implementing it won't be. And repeal without having an agreed-on plan for replacement in place is a recipe for calamity, as a new Urban Institute study shows. Repeal is easy because Senate rules allow a simple majority, rather than a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority, to pass measures called for in a budget resolution that affect only taxes and mandatory spending. So a Republican-controlled Congress has undoubted power to end key provisions of the ACA: the expansion of Medicaid; subsidies for most of those purchasing individual coverage in the ...
An estimated 1.5 trillion objects around the world could one day connect to the Internet, everything from simple housewares to automobiles. In the so-called internet of things, each of them will be capable of sending and receiving data just as our laptops, smartphones, tablets and TVs do today. But if internet-connected wearables or smart home devices didn't make your holiday shopping list this year, it may be because of growing concerns about how careless the makers seem to be with the data their devices collect. So far, smart things have proven to be pretty stupid. In their rush to get intelligent fitness trackers, mattresses and Christmas tree lights to market, developers just aren't paying enough attention to privacy and security issues. That oversight now seems...

Radio Host Mark Levin Slams Liberals For ‘Always Picking On The Jews’; Defends Settlements In Israel
A Jewish organization has launched a database aimed at helping thousands of Holocaust survivors or their heirs regain property lost in Warsaw due to World War II and communism. Under a new Polish law, people will have just six months to file claims for more than 2,600 properties in Warsaw after those properties are listed publicly in a newspaper, something expected to happen soon. Not all of the properties belonged to Jews, but it is believed that many of them did. Claimants who fail to come forward by the deadline will forever relinquish their rights to any restitution, with the city to assume permanent ownership of unclaimed properties....Read more at ABC News

Fox News contributors weigh in on president-elect targeting Air Force One contract.
Donald Trump has gone about picking his Cabinet and senior advisers in much the way one might have predicted. Instead of looking for people with the highest levels of experience, expertise, and competence, he seems to be making his choices based on criteria like who he's seen on Fox News, or who praised him effusively, or who has a cool nickname. There may be no more dangerous choice Trump has made so far than picking Michael Flynn to be his national security adviser. There are few more important positions in the White House, and few where the wrong choice could have consequences quite as catastrophic. If we contemplate how President Trump might handle an international crisis - which he will face, probably before long - we see just how troubling Flynn's appointment is....
