One passenger is known to have survived the crash of the Air India flight that went down shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad today (Thursday). The lone survivor, identified as 40-year-old British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, was seated in 11A—right next to an emergency exit. In a remarkable act of survival, he reportedly jumped from the aircraft moments before its fatal plunge, the Hindustan Times reported. Speaking from his hospital bed, Ramesh recalled scenes of devastation: "When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared ... I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane everywhere." Emergency responders later spotted a bloodied man with facial bruises limping down a street, supported by a medic—a ...
Ask the Senate to Include a $10 Billion Scholarship Tax Credit in the Reconciliation Package The conversation around the revolutionary federal school choice proposal continues moving its way through Congress. Having passed the House a few weeks ago in their budget reconciliation package, aka The Big Beautiful Bill, it is now under consideration in the United States Senate, as part of theirs. We greatly appreciate the action you took when it was in the House, and now, as our aim shifts to the Senate, we once again request your assistance in the effort to ensure that the best possible version of a scholarship tax credit program is indeed adopted. A California senator was quickly rushed away from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after he barged into her press conference addressing the Los Angeles anti-ICE riots. After loudly speaking over Noem, Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., was pushed out of the room by authorities as they ordered him to put his hands up. The incident happened shortly after Noem said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) "is staying here to liberate this city from the socialist and the burdensome leadership that this governor and this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into this city." Noem did not skip a beat, continuing her address without any reaction to the disruption. Gov. Gavin Newsom took to X to comment on Padilla's outburst, placing blame on the Trump adm...

On the twentieth day of the month of Iyar — after encamping at the base of Mount Sinai for nearly a year — the nation was instructed to begin their journey towards the promised land. They journeyed from the Mountain of Hashem… (במדבר י לג) The mountain we received the Torah on is alternately referred to as Mount Sinai, Mount Chorev, or the Mountain of Elokim — G-d, but never Har Hashem. Har Hashem is used solely in reference to the Temple Mount — Har HaMoriah. The Ramban facing this dilemma therefore interprets — based on the Midrash — that this description is not simply naming the place of departure, but rather intimating that they 'fled like a child fleeing from school with joy, from the mountain where G-d appeared, lest He incre...
Baltimore, MD - June 12, 2025  - Hundreds marched in southeast Baltimore Wednesday to protest what they say is the detention of at least 16 people in the region by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the last three weeks, after raids at grocery stores, convenience shops and a Home Depot. The peaceful protest and march was led by CASA, a nonprofit that provides support services for immigrants and advocates on their behalf. “ICE out of Maryland! ICE out of Baltimore!” they chanted to drumbeats, as passersby peered from windows and rowhouse steps, often filming with their cell phones, sometimes cheering with the crowd. “We have seen a spike in the Baltimore region — and our surrounding area — of raids,” said Crisaly De Los Santos, CASA&rsq...
AHMEDABAD, India (AP) — An Air India passenger plane bound for London crashed into a medical college in Ahmedabad after takeoff Thursday, killing at least 240 people in one of India’s worst airline disasters in decades, officials said. Vidhi Chaudhary, a top state police officer in the northwestern city of Ahmedabad, said medical students who were in a college hostel when the plane hit the building are among the dead. “Most of the bodies have been charred beyond recognition,” she said. Indian Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that a single passenger survived the crash and he met him at the hospital. A doctor said he had examined the survivor, whom he identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh. “He was disoriented with multiple injuries all over his body,&r...
This week we are introduced to a novel and nearly unique concept in the Torah.  Imagine, you are ship wrecked on a desert island and are there for 30 days.  While you are there comes the YomTov of Succos.  Of course you abstain from Melacha and fashion whatever type of “Seuda” you can muster up, but Lulav and Esrog you are not going to have.  Finally you are rescued and you arrive home.  You are deeply troubled by the fact that you missed the entire Yom Tov.  You feel terrible that for the first time in your adult life you missed out on the Mitzvah of Lulav and Esrog.  Sadly, there is nothing you can do.  Generally if there is a Mitzvas Hayom for a specific date, if you missed it, even through no fault of your own, you missed it.  Sa...

Wes Moore announced a Customer Relief Fund on Thursday that will provide $19 million in relief for limited-and-middle-income customers of BGE during an anticipated increase in energy bills. It's expected that the fund will provide BGE residential customers with $15 million, and eligible customers could qualify for a one-time grant ranging from $250 to $750. For BGE, United Way of Central Maryland will administer the fund, with applications opening July 1. "Not a day goes by without me hearing from Ma...
Baltimore, MD - June 12, 2025  - The Carroll County Sheriff's Office has declined an invitation to participate in an honor guard ceremony at Camden Yards due to the Baltimore Orioles' policy prohibiting firearms in the ballpark. Sheriff Jim DeWees said he canceled his deputies' participation because the Orioles would not allow them to carry their guns during the event. "I think the decision is just blatantly ignorant," DeWees said, expressing his frustration with the Orioles' policy, which he believes puts his deputies at risk. "First of all, our policy is when you're in uniform, you have a loaded firearm with you. And so, regardless of where you go, deputies, law enforcement, we're targets the second we leave our homes in uniform. And people expect us ...
Baltimore, MD - June 12, 2025 -  Smoke from Canadian wildfires continued to pour into Maryland on Thursday, prompting state environmental officials to declare a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for the Baltimore region. A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations may become unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly. According to the Maryland Department of the Environment, wildfire smoke, along with workweek emissions and well-above-normal temperatures, will combine on Thursday to push ozone concentrations above the USG threshold. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Air Quality Index uses color codes to forecast and report daily air quali...

Ahmedabad, India - June 12, 2025 - An Air India passenger plane bound for London with more than 240 people on board crashed Thursday in India’s northwestern city of Ahmedabad, the airline said. Visuals on local television channels showed smoke billowing from the crash site in what appeared to be a populated area near the airport in Ahmedabad, a city with a population of more than 5 million. The airline said the Gatwick Airport-bound flight was carrying 242 passengers and crew. Of those, Air India said there were 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese and one Canadian. Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the director general of the directorate of civil aviation, told The Associated Press that Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8, crashed into a residential area called Meghani Nagar five minut...
Baltimore County, MD - June 12, 2025 - The process of adding two new council members and redrawing Baltimore County's map has sparked disagreement among current council members.   The commission recently voted 4-3 on a proposed map, with a report expected to reach the council by early next week. Councilman Julian Jones of District 4 says the process is far from over. "I haven't seen it. I've heard what people tell me about it but I would like to look at it and crunch it as best I can and let people in my community take a look at it and then I'll see whether or not I'll vote for it or not," Jones said. Izzy Patoka from Council District 2 introduced the legislation to expand the council from seven to nine members. "It's been an incredibl...
