Response from the Prime Minister's office:The NYT article of July 11, 2025 rehashes long discredited claims of Prime Minister Netanyahu's political opponents. It defames Israel, its brave people and soldiers, and its Prime Minister. The strategic decisions made by Prime Minister Netanyahu and his cabinet led Israel to one of the greatest military comebacks in history.  Prime Minister Netanyahu's leadership brought about the covert detonation of Hezbollah pagers, the destruction of its missile stockpiles, the destruction of Assad's armaments, the elimination of Hamas and Hezbollah terrorist chiefs and above all the decisive action against the Iranian nuclear and ballistic missile programs aimed at annihilating Israel. Contrary to the article's claims, ...
Baltimore, MD - July 12. 2025 - Days after implementing a hiring freeze for state jobs, the Wes Moore administration is now offering some employees a buyout. According to a letter sent to state employees, it’s all in an effort to cut $121 million in costs for the 2026 budget. For those eligible, the buyout includes a lump sum of $20,000, $300 for each year worked and state-paid health benefits for six months. One economist told 11 News the incentive package could be very attractive to certain groups. “It would probably be appealing to a younger state employee who possibly sees opportunities elsewhere in the private sector. This is a good opportunity,” said Daraius Irani, chief economist at Towson University. In a statement, Senate Minority Leader Steve Hershey, ...
Baltimore, MD - July 12, 2025  - This past Sunday, the halls and campus of Mesivta Kesser Torah were filled with the sounds of singing, dancing, and heartfelt emotion as the Yeshiva celebrated a remarkable and uplifting event — the Hachnasas Sefer Torah of a newly dedicated Sefer Torah, generously gifted by the family of R’ Yaakov Dovid Feldheim z”l, beloved brother of the Rosh Hayeshiva, Rav Tzvi Mordechai Feldheim, shlit”a. The excitement was incredible. Bochurim, Rabbeim, parents, and friends of the Yeshiva gathered in joyous unity as the new Sefer Torah was brought in from Agudas Yisroel of Washington Heights. A particularly moving moment came when the new Sefer Torah was greeted by the Yeshiva's existing Sifrei Torah — a powerful and symbolic ...
In the days after October 7th, something unusual happened. Jews around the world, religious and secular, left and right, suddenly felt unified. While months of division had left us vulnerable, our newfound unity gave us strength. A few months after the attacks, I joined a mission to Capitol Hill. I expected policy meetings and talking points. But then Congressman Steny Hoyer leaned forward, looked at us, and asked: “Why have Jews always been hated?” It wasn’t a rhetorical question. He was genuinely confused and genuinely disturbed. That moment stayed with me. Because even non-Jews can sense that the hatred is irrational, inexplicable, without justification. Sharansky’s “Three Ds” — and a Surprising Parallel Natan Sharansky, the famed Sovi...
Hamas may increase its attempts to kidnap IDF soldiers operating in the Gaza Strip, a Tel Aviv University academic told British outlet The Guardian on Saturday. "[There is] no doubt Hamas will increase its attempts to take new hostages, including bodies of dead soldiers and civilians,” head of the Palestinian studies forum at Tel Aviv University Michael Milshtein said. This came after St.-Sgt.-Maj. (res.) Abraham Azulay, 25, was killed in Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip after terrorists emerged from a tunnel and tried to abduct him, the IDF reported Wednesday. Azulay fought back until the terrorists shot him, the military said. Soldiers opened fire, struck several terrorists, and thwarted the abduction. However, Hamas's focus on a new aim of capturing an IDF...
A political source stated that if Hamas had accepted the Qatari proposal, an agreement could have been reached and 60 days of negotiations for a permanent ceasefire could have begun, in line with Israel's objectives. According to the source, talks in Doha are ongoing, including during the Sabbath, with the Israeli team working with the mediators from Egypt and Qatar while providing regular updates to the Prime Minister and Minister Dermer. The team was sent to Doha after Israel accepted the Qatari proposal. However, Hamas rejected the offer, hardening its stance, refusing to compromise, and waging a media war aimed at sabotaging the talks, misleading Gaza residents, and applying pressure on the public in Israel. The source noted that while Israel demonstrated flexibility, Hamas...
During Operation Rising Lion, a dramatic mid-air emergency unfolded above Tehran. An Israeli F-15 fighter jet en route to a strike mission in the Iranian capital region experienced a serious malfunction in its secondary fuel tank, Channel 12 reported. The issue prevented the aircraft from drawing fuel at a crucial phase of its mission — deep inside hostile airspace — leading to a dangerous fuel shortage that risked the jet being lost or forced into an emergency landing. Unlike previous missions, this sortie had not included plans for in-air refueling. But given the crisis, the Israeli Air Force made a rare, split-second decision to dispatch a refueling aircraft mid-operation. The tanker met the fighter jet over Iranian territory, where, under extreme tension and pre...
Annapolis, MD - July 11, 2025 - It won’t happen immediately, but advocates and state officials are predicting that changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the budget reconciliation bill signed last week will deliver “a devastating blow” to many of the 680,000 Marylanders who get SNAP benefits. The biggest change that recipients will see are new work requirements for some able-bodied recipients that analysts say many Marylanders simply will not be able to meet, for a number of reasons. The bill also includes a massive shift in costs from the federal to the state governments. Currently, the split administrative costs for the program 50/50 and the federal government pays for all the costs of the actual benefit. Beginning next year, states will pay 75% ...
Annapolis, MD - July 11, 2025 - Deep cuts to Medicaid in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will likely force thousands of Marylanders off the Medicaid rolls, creating ripple effects that advocates fear could strain and disrupt the state’s overall health care system. “The whole situation is incredibly frustrating and a lot of harm has been done to the Maryland health care system with this bill,” said Gene Ransom, CEO for MedChi, the Maryland State Medical Society. President Donald Trump (R) signed H.R. 1, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” last week. In addition to permanently extending some tax cuts and slashing food stamp benefits, the new law aims to cut $1 trillion in Medicaid spending over the next 10 years by reducing aid to states, imposing w...
In a split decision Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit vacated former Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s federal mortgage fraud conviction but upheld her perjury convictions. The 2-1 decision ruled that the District Court of Maryland's venue instruction was erroneous, and found that the jury could've determined that the government didn't meet its burden to establish venue in that district, and that the error was not harmless. However, the U.S. District Court said the District of Maryland's decision to allow the government to introduce evidence as to how Mosby used funds she withdrew from her retirement accounts was not in error, as the evidence was ruled supportive to where Mosby had suffered "adverse financial consequences." In...
Baltimore, MD – July 11, 2025 – - Be vigilant as missionaries continue to visit homes in our community. BJL has just been informed that they are now active in Beazer, handing out various collateral materials.
A verse from this week's reading has become popular internationally during the recent campaign Israel waged against Iran. Behold! עם כלביא — A nation like a lion cub, will arise, and raise itself as a lion, it will not lie down until it consumes prey, and drinks the blood of the slain (במדבר כג כד). Nachmanides indeed interprets this verse as a testament to the nation's leonine courage and successful battles against the Canaanite kings in conquering the land. The Midrash Tanchuma though teaches that this verse refers to our awakening each morning eager to 'grab' like a lion the opportunity to recite קריאת שמע — Shma, coronating our King with our allegiance to Him. It is due to this allusion to the mitzvah of declaring Shma Yisrael...
