The inspector general of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has opened an investigation into the U.S. Secret Service’s planning of a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania that took place on Saturday. Joseph V. Cuffari, who was appointed as the inspector general by former President Trump in 2019, opened the investigation. The investigation was recently listed on the Office of Inspector General’s website page that lists ongoing projects. The objective of the investigation, according to the site, is to “evaluate the United States Secret Service’s process for securing former President Trump’s July 13, 2024 campaign event.” The project is also categorized as counter terrorism and homeland threats.
The effort to replace President Biden as the Democratic Party's 2024 nominee has lost all momentum and is essentially "over" following the assassination attempt against former President Trump, allies of the president say, according to a new report. A steady stream of Democratic lawmakers and top donors had called on Biden to drop out of the race throughout last week and the weekend. Allies of Biden now say Trump's attempted slaying has taken the wind from the sails of Biden's critics. "I think it’s over," one ally to the president told NBC News. "You just lose all momentum." "They were having a very bad political day, and then we had this supernova event. Now, it’s frozen," one Democratic strategist told the outlet. "If you’re an advocate for: ...
Trump rally shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks purchased 50 rounds of ammunition just hours before the incident, according to reports.  Crooks, 20, bought the bullets from local gun shop Allegheny Arms before opening fire at former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. FBI officials had not yet confirmed the report as of Tuesday morning, but noted that they've completed a vetting of Crooks' phone. "The search of the subject’s residence and vehicle are complete. The FBI has conducted nearly 100 interviews of law enforcement personnel, event attendees, and other witnesses. That work continues," the FBI said in a statement. The owner of Allegheny Arms had pledged his full support and cooperatio...
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley made her highly anticipated appearance at the Republican Convention, taking the stage to a mixture of cheers and boos from those in attendance. Haley, who was former President Donald Trump’s fiercest primary rival, gave the former president her "strong endorsement" during the appearance in Milwaukee, ending months of speculation on if she would throw her weight behind her former rival. But the initial reaction to Haley’s arrival stood in stark contrast to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump’s chief primary rival during the 2016 campaign, who received a standing ovation from those in the crowd, including Trump themselves. Former Republican presidential candidate and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley speaks during ...

This was an attack on a candidate for the presidency of the United States. This was an attack on America. It was an attack on democracy, it was an attack on all the democracies." Some viewed Trump’s sharing of Netanyahu’s video as a sign that the former President and Republican presidential nominee seeks to open a new chapter in relations with ...

Following is an excerpt from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks today (Tuesday, 16 July 2024), at Mt. Herzl in Jerusalem, at the state memorial ceremony for IDF soldiers who fell in Operation Protective Edge [translated from Hebrew]: "The operational logic of Operation Protective Edge was a product of the conditions of the unique strategic reality at that time. We conducted a double campaign to strike Hamas, both militarily and diplomatically, and this is what we are vigorously doing today, on a far greater scale, and we are determined on a decisive outcome. The monstrous massacre on October 7 reshuffled the deck. It requires a very different operative concept that takes into account Iran's efforts to strangle us in a chokehold on seven fronts. Today more than ever, w...

Maryland Republicans attending the convention said that doesn’t hurt the candidate, noting Republican internal polls show Hogan beating his opponent. Hogan also did not attend the party’s conventions in 2020 and 2016. Hogan campaigned in Prince George’s County on Tuesday. Prince George’s County is home to his opponent Angela Alsobrooks.
President Joe Biden in an interview with NBC News anchor Lester Holt Monday night admitted he made a “mistake” by calling for former President Donald Trump to be put in a “bullseye.” Biden made the comment during a call with donors last week while discussing strategies to take media attention off his disastrous performance at the first presidential debate. The remark, Biden said, was intended to convey his desire to put Trump’s lies during the debate in the spotlight. “It was a mistake to use the word,” Biden said in the interview. “I meant focus on [Trump], focus on what he’s doing. Focus on his policies, focus on the number of lies he told at the debate.” The president took a markedly defensive tone during the...
