Baltimore, MD - June 14, 2024  - Father's Day weekend in Maryland could get off to a stormy, hot start Friday as a passing cold front brings the potential for severe weather and damaging winds to the area. On Friday, Marylanders should expect another hot, humid day with temperatures reaching the upper 80s to mid-90s, according to the National Weather Service's latest forecast. The forecast also calls for clear conditions and abundant sunshine. However, that could change later Friday when a cold front capable of producing scattered strong to severe thunderstorms pushes into the state. The NWS issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for areas of Maryland including Baltimore, Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Mary's, Calvert, central and southeast Mo...

On Wednesday, 11 News Investigates reported exclusively that U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and White House officials would meet Thursday with companies about the port since the reopening of the Federal Channel. Buttigieg and S. Lael Brainard, the director of the National Economic Council of the United States and a national economic adviser, heard the concerns of business and industry partners soon after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed, and Thursday’s meeting was an effort to re-engage them now that the port is open, 11 News Investigates learned exclusively on Thursday. The Supreme Court invalidated the Trump-era ban on bump stocks along ideological lines on Friday, ending the nationwide ban on the devices, which convert semi-automatic weapons to fire hundreds of rounds per minute.  The Biden administration defended the regulation in front of the high court after the Trump administration first implemented it in the wake of the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting, the deadliest in U.S. history. The shooter had used a bump stock to kill 58 people and wound hundreds of others.  Both the Trump and Biden administrations have since made possessing the devices a criminal offense by newly classifying them as machine guns under longstanding federal law.   In a 6-3 decision authored by conservative Justice Clarence...
The US has provided Israel with intelligence capabilities never before seen prior to October 7, a senior official told The Washington Post on Friday.  A notable example of such capabilities was Israel’s recent hostage rescue operation, the official said. According to the Post, citing current and former US and Israeli intelligence sources since the October 7 massacre, the US has increased intelligence gathering on Hamas. As such, the US is reportedly sharing an extraordinary amount of drone footage, satellite imagery, communications intercepts, and data analysis using advanced software, some powered by artificial intelligence. The unique intelligence capabilities provided by the US The report cited Israeli officials who said Israel is grateful f...
Parshas Naso, which most often is the portion read on the Shabbos directly after Shavuos, begins with the directive by G-d to Moshe to "raise up the head [take a census] of the sons of Gershon, גם הם — also them." At the conclusion of the previous portion the Torah reports how the sons of Kehas were counted. It now picks up from where we left off in continuing to count the descendants of Gershon and Merari. Why is there a gap between these accounts? Why does the Torah add particularly by Gershon that they were 'also' raised? Reb Leibele Eiger, the illustrious disciple of the holy Kotzker, and grandson of the great sage, Rabbi Akiva Eiger, addresses this issue. Gershon was the firstborn son of Levi, seemingly destined for the more significant role of attending the A...

The new sheriff in town is determined to make a difference in the lives of Baltimore City residents. The sheriff's effort involves ridding streets of abandoned and broken-down vehicles in what Sheriff Sam Cogen, who was elected to office in 2022, considers quality-of-life law enforcement. The sheriff said his deputies tow an average of six vehicles per day, amounting to about 58 vehicles towed since the enforcement began in December. Drivers who dare to ignore no-parking zones, for example, now face getting towed faster than they can call 311. As part of her full-time duties, Deputy Stacey Dickens is a tow truck operator with the Baltimore City Sheriff's Office. "If something comes back with the driver not having proper registration, I'm going to get it," Dickens told 11...
It was one of the most inspiring days of my life. I, along with 90,000 (and counting!) Jewish people, partook in celebrating the completion of 2711 blatt of Talmud Bavli at the historic 13th Siyum Hashas on January 1, 2020 at MetLife Stadium. Yes, I studied in yeshivos. Yes, I learned from amazing Rebbeim and teachers. And yes, I was raised in a wonderful Jewish home, Baruch Hashem. But there was something unique, something different, about this wondrous and epic experience of celebrating the Torah with almost 100,000 yidden. It was there, on that freezing cold winter day, when I truly felt the warmth and fire of Torah, and when I finally understood ki hem chayeinu - the Torah is our life; I finally met life itself. For one day, this NFL stadium served not as the home of the New York Giant...

Baltimore, MD - June 10, 2022 - The Baltimore community suffered an immeasurable loss.  A beloved Rebbe, pashut Rav, and the embodiment of an Ohev Yisroel in human form,  returned to the Yeshiva Shel Maaleh on Tes Sivan, TSh”PB . Rabbi Peretz Dinovitz, zt”l, master mechanech and  what I call a Rebbe’s Rebbe will be sorely missed by scores of people.  Having taught 3d grade for 30 years, and quite proud of his “job,” Rabbi Dinovitz saw the beauty in each and every talmid.  Listening at the Levaya today to all the stories  from some of those talmidim,  now adults spread  throughout the world and spanning  the Jewish spectrum, was testimony to  his love and influence and that of Mekarvan Shel Torah.  His act...
President Biden on Thursday ruled out the possibility of commuting the sentence of his son Hunter Biden after a jury delivered a guilty verdict this week on three charges related to the purchase of a gun in 2018. Biden was asked by a reporter whether he would commute his son’s sentence while leaving the stage at the end of a press conference at the Group of Seven summit alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, to which Biden responded: “No.” It came a day after administration officials were asked a similar question aboard Air Force One on the way to the summit in Italy, appearing not to entirely rule out the possibility. “I haven’t spoken to the president about this since the verdict came out, and as we all know, the s...

A recent poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research reveals that more than eight months into the war in Gaza, 73 percent of Palestinians support Hamas' decision to launch the October 7 attacks on Israel.  The support is somewhat lower among Gazans, with 57 percent expressing approval. The survey indicates a notable increase in satisfaction with Hamas and its leader, Yahya Sinwar, compared to a similar poll conducted three months ago. Hamas remains the most supported political party among Palestinians, while support for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has dwindled to 12 percent. The poll highlights the severe impact of the ongoing conflict on Palestinian families, with 4 in 5 respondents reporting that a family member has been either ...
