The troops of the 98th Division have completed their divisional operation in the Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah area, after about a month of simultaneous above and underground operational activity. IDF Arabic spokesman Avichay Adraee has updated local residents that they may return home safely, and that the area is again part of the humanitarian area in Gaza. As part of the operation, the troops eliminated over 250 terrorists and destroyed dozens of terrorist infrastructures. The Yahalom Unit, along with the 7th Brigade and the Paratroopers Brigade, located and destroyed 6 underground tunnel routes spanning approximately 6 kilometers. In some of the tunnel routes the troops eliminated terrorists and located terrorist hideouts and weapons. The 7th Brigade operated in the Khan Yunis and De...
Annapolis, MD - Aug. 30, 2024  - Just hours after the New York Times published its reporting, Gov. Moore released a lengthy statement explaining why he listed the award on his application. “In my Officer Evaluation Report, I was listed as a top 1% officer in Operation Enduring Freedom and described by my official evaluator as “the best lieutenant I’ve encountered during Operation Enduring Freedom.” My deputy brigade commander felt comfortable with instructing me to include the award on my application for the Fellowship because he received confirmation with the approval authority that the Bronze Star was signed and approved by his senior leadership. In the military, there is an understanding that if a senior officer tells you that an action is approved, you can...

Baltimore, MD - Aug. 30, 2024: Lichvod HaRav Pinchas Gross, Shlita and Kehilas Kodesh Derech Chaim, Every time I pass your beautiful new shul on Pimlico Rd., I am overcome with a mix of joy and sadness. Joyful that your flourishing Kehila will have the Mikdash me’at it truly deserves, and sadness over our shul’s loss. It’s hard to believe that it has been almost a decade since we began sharing our space together. During that time, you have infused our shul with an immense amount of kedusha. I recall, years ago, when you requested to use the chapel in the evenings for Night Seder. The admiration that we experienced knowing that so many people, after a busy day at work, would come to learn for hours, was palpable. Even after you moved your Beis Medrash down the block, th...
The Maryland Supreme Court on Friday upheld a lower court's decision to reinstate Adnan Syed's conviction in the 1999 slaying of Hae Min Lee, according to a report. The decision comes nearly two years after Syed, whose case was documented on the hit podcast "Serial," was released from prison when a Baltimore Circuit Court judge vacated his conviction in September 2022. Prosecutors dropped all charges against Syed a month later. The Appellate Court of Maryland reinstated his conviction in March 2023 and ordered a redo of the hearing, stating the victim’s family didn’t receive adequate notice to attend the earlier hearing. Syed, who was found guilty of killing Hae Min Lee in 2000, spent more than 20 years in prison for her death. In a lengthy majorit...
“Go Big or Go Home” is a phrase very much associated with Western culture and ideology. It is said that the origin was a product slogan in the 1990s for a motorcycle parts company that sold exhaust systems. As humans, we have a tendency to be drawn after the “big” things! We are fascinated by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which has been the tallest building in the world since 2010. We are amazed by Mount Everest, standing at 29,032 feet, which is the tallest mountain in the world. We are in awe with the Antarctic Blue Whale (scientifically known as: Balaenoptera musculus ssp. Intermedia), the biggest animal on planet earth, weighing up to 400,000 pounds (approximately 33 elephants!) and reaching up to 98 feet in length. We love looking at who is on top of the list, whate...

US Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris on Thursday said once again that the war in Gaza “must end” and said she would not change President Joe Biden’s policy on supplying weapons to Israel. Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, were speaking to CNN’s Dana Bash in their first sit-down interview since accepting the Democratic nomination. On the war in Gaza, Harris said, “We have to get a deal done. This war must end, and we must get a deal that is about getting the hostages out.” Asked whether she would withhold some weapons shipment to Israel as many progressives have requested, Harris replied, “Let me be very clear: I’m unequivocal and unwavering in my commitment to Israel’s defense and its abi...
Moshe Rabbeinu spends his final days reviewing and reinforcing the ideas and perspectives necessary to allow the nation of Israel to become a successful, powerful, and strong people. He reminds them to avoid the temptations of idolatry and immorality and to remain true to the tenets of our Torah and relationship with God. Moshe also dispensed a healthy dose of chizuk (positive reinforcement).   “For you are a holy people to the Lord, your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a treasured people for Him, out of all the nations that are upon the earth.” (Devorim 14:2)  God loves us. Not only when we behave or follow His dictates; He loves us all the time. Moshe tells us that failure is inevitable, but he also reminds us that God’s love and commit...
The second tithe, מעשר שני — which we designate after first separating Terumah, which is given to a Kohen, as well as the first tithe מעשר ראשון, which is apportioned to a Levi — must either be consumed within the walls of sanctified Jerusalem or redeemed on coins that will used to purchase food to be eaten in Jerusalem. The Torah in prohibiting it from being consumed outside of the sanctified city, uses a term that is not usually employed when stating a prohibition. לא תוכל — You 'cannot' eat the tithes… in all your settlements… only before G-d your Lord, in the place that G-d your Lord shall choose [Jerusalem].  Cannot?! Although we shouldn't but as free-willed beings certainly we can! Rashi quotes Rebbi Yehos...
