When one of our babies needs help, we all show up    That's what our community does. We take care of each other, especially the littlest ones.   Right now, a 3-month-old baby named Baruch is in the hospital fighting a serious kidney condition. His treatments aren't fully covered, and no family should have to carry that alone.   So let's carry it together. Every gift, big or small, helps a family focus on what matters most: getting their baby healthy and home.    I look at my tiny baby sleeping peacefully in the ICU. But my heart knows the truth this is only the beginning of our battle. A battle for his life and for my strength to keep going.   My name is Miriam. My baby’s name is Baruch.   He is only two months ...
A bus driver was killed and 24 people were wounded Friday morning when a bus collided with a tractor on Route 25 in southern Israel, near the Shibolim agricultural community. The bus was transporting a group of girls on a field trip, according to Israel’s Fire and Rescue Service, which sent crews to free people trapped inside the vehicle. Magen David Adom said the driver, a man approximately 50 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene after being extricated from the bus. Among the wounded were a 61-year-old woman in serious condition, a 35-year-old in moderate condition and 22 others who sustained light injuries. All those injured were transported to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon or Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba. Police are investigating the circumstances of the col...
The IDF killed a Hamas commander who was involved in holding 12 Israeli hostages in Gaza during the early stages of the war, including Noa Argamani, Emily Hand and Ohad Ben Ami. Ihab Jamil Abu Taqiya, a squad commander in Hamas’s military wing, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Nuseirat area on Thursday. The hostages identified by the military were later released or had their bodies returned to Israel. Another Hamas operative, Ibrahim Gihad Muhammad Abu Oshaiba, a platoon commander, was also killed in the strike. The IDF said both men had been involved in advancing attacks against Israeli forces and civilians and rebuilding Hamas’s military capabilities, including in recent weeks, in violation of the ceasefire. The military said it took steps to reduce the risk to civ...

When Karl Bushby left the southern tip of Chile on November 1, 1998, he had just $500 in his pocket and a plan to walk home to Hull, England. The former British paratrooper estimated the journey would take about 12 years. Instead, what became known as the Goliath Expedition stretched into a 28-year adventure covering approximately 36,000 miles. Bushby set two rules for himself: he would not use transportation to advance the journey, and he would not return to the United Kingdom until it was complete. Visa restrictions sometimes forced him to leave countries before he could continue. During those breaks, he would return to Mexico or the United States, but whenever he resumed the expedition, he had to pick up at the exact spot where he had stopped. The route took him through South and Cent...

Have you ever wondered where in Shemoneh Esrei we pray to be blessed with children? I was recently speaking to a talmid of the great Gaon, Rav Zvi Kushelevsky — who remarkably was blessed with his only child at the age of eighty-eight — and asked him if he ever inquired of his Rebbe where in davening he requested for this blessing. He told me that indeed he did and his Rebbe said in the blessing of Refaeinu. At first, it seemed odd to me that this was the appropriate place to daven for children. But as it was the week of the portion we read with the miraculous birth of Yitzchok — the link to the eternity of the Jewish nation through all his progeny, something suddenly struck me. When Avimelech abducts the beautiful Sarah after Avraham introduced her simpl...

Former President Barack Obama mocked President Donald Trump’s White House renovations, joking that the building looked like “Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.” At a campaign rally in Georgia on Wednesday, Obama used the reaction to his remark to question the administration’s priorities, particularly its handling of rising prices. “They mobilized a whole of government response to that joke, not to inflation, but to that joke,” Obama told the crowd at the rally for Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms. Obama also pointed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s appearance outside a Cheesecake Factory to defend the restaurant, using the episode to underscore his argument that the administration was payin...
