A Timely Re-reading of a Blog from Last Year“A prayer offered without intent (Kavanah), is like a body without a soul.” When the rabbis taught us that lesson, they were encouraging us that when we recite our personal and public prayers, rather than merely reciting the words, we should garb them with our own personal meanings and thoughts. Just as our clothing choices help us stand apart, so do our contemplation and intent transform even standardized prayers into deeply personal, unique offerings. Avinu. Malkeinu. Our Father. Our King. Who is unfamiliar with this powerful refrain, chanted, and pleaded, and cried over and over during the High Holiday season? Who isn’t moved by our supplication to G-d, both in His identity as our Father, and in his role as our King? So w...

Baltimore, MD - Sept. 30, 2025 - A Project Baltimore investigation has uncovered that Maryland taxpayers, in 2024, gave public schools hundreds of millions of dollars to educate students whose whereabouts were unknown. It’s late September. And Maryland public schools are busy – not just educating students but counting them. In Maryland, most of a school’s funding is based on the number of students enrolled on one day, September 30th. The students counted on that day largely determine a school’s funding the following year. But a Project Baltimore investigation is raising serious questions about that process. We’ve learned, in 2024, taxpayers gave hundreds of millions of dollars to schools to educate students who could not be found. State Delegate Kathy Szel...

JPost Videos The plan, which was backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, would see the terror group disarm and release the remaining 48 hostages. "Hamas has begun a se...

Baltimore, MD - Sept. 29, 2025 - When the calendar flips to Oct. 1, Marylanders will see hundreds of new laws go into effect, touching nearly every part of daily life. These laws impact family life, tenant rights, immigration protections, hospital billing, criminal justice and even traffic safety. Below is a breakdown of some of the most impactful changes and how they could affect Marylanders. Family Law and Child Custody Child Support Adjustments (HB 1191 / SB 548) Parents who owe child support could see a new deduction when their income is calculated. When courts calculate child support, they don’t just use a parent’s raw income: they use something called adjusted actual income. That’s the parent’s income after subtracting certain allowable de...
Washington, D.C. - Sept. 29, 2025 - “Mr. President, First I want to thank you for graciously hosting me once again in the White House. And second, I want to thank you for your friendship and for your leadership. From Jerusalem to Tehran, from the Golan Heights to Gaza, you've proven time and again what I've said many times. You are the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House. And, Mr. President, you and I both know it's not even close. While you focus at home on making America great again, your leadership abroad is changing the world for the better, ending wars and advancing peace. I believe that today we're taking a critical step towards both ending the war in Gaza and setting the stage for dramatically advancing peace in the Middle East, a...
Annapolis, MD - Sept. 29, 2025 - As lawmakers continue to debate the budget and a possible government shutdown looms, officials warn it could have significant impacts to Maryland. A memo from the White House Budget Office has instructed agencies to identify programs whose funds will lapse if Congress fails to meet the September 30 funding deadline and that have no alternative source of funding. Those programs could then be targeted for sweeping reductions, and the possibility of some of those jobs, which are “not consistent” with President Donald Trump’s priorities, permanently eliminated. "What it does is it turns people into political pawns," said Rep. Johnny Olszewski. "Firing them would make a shutdown permanent," he added. "So even if we opened up, there'd be...
Baltimore, MD - Sept. 29, 2025 - A ransomware group known as “Rhysida” has claimed responsibility for a late August cyberattack on the Maryland Department of Transportation, threatening to sell personal data stolen in the incident unless their demands are met. The group claims to have stolen data including Social Security numbers, driver’s license details, home addresses, passport data and other legal documents from Maryland residents. According to The Daily Dark Web, Rhysida demanded 30 Bitcoin in exchange for the information. As of Friday morning, 30 Bitcoin had a dollar value of about $3.3 million. “The Maryland Transit Administration can confirm incident-related data loss at this point in our investigation,” said Veronica Battisti, the agency’s sen...
The clock is ticking to fund government, and so far, lawmakers do not have a path forward to avert a partial shutdown. The Senate returned to Washington, D.C., on Monday, and congressional leaders are slated to meet with President Donald Trump to negotiate a deal on funding the government. But the last week has seen both sides point the finger at who would own closing the government. Lawmakers have until midnight Wednesday to pass a short-term funding extension, or else the government will close. And if it does, it would be the third shutdown under Trump.A government shutdown happens when Congress can neither pass all 12 appropriations bills needed to fund the government, nor pass a continuing resolution (CR), which typically keeps funding levels static while lawmakers hus...
