State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman published today (Tuesday) findings that he presented to the IDF and the political echelon before October 7, 2023 on the IDF positions on Israel's northern border.
Soldiers who were stationed in the border area complained to the Comptroller that the guidelines for when they are permitted to open fire were not appropriate for the threats they faced. In addition, the Comptroller warned that reserve soldiers did not receive appropriate weapons.
Commanders testified that they were repeatedly forced to cancel patrols due to malfunctions in the patrol vehicles.
Englman said that "the Simchat Torah massacre of October 7 resulted from numerous and serious failures in protecting the country's borders. In a surprise inspection, which we conducted at ei...

Israel's National Security Council (NSC) issued on Tuesday a public assessment of terrorist threats against Israelis abroad, ahead of spring vacations.
The NSC said the assessment is intended to raise awareness among Israeli travelers regarding the threats they may face in various destinations worldwide.
The assessment focuses on key trends in global terrorist activity that may constitute a risk to citizens abroad.

The NSC notes that Iran remains the primary cause of global terrorism, both directly and through its terror proxies.
"Iran continues to use terrorist operations as a central policy tool and as retaliation for strikes against senior Iranian, Hezbollah, and Hamas officials in the context of war in Gaza."
The assessment notes that myria...

Baltimore, MD - March 31, 2025 - Eighth grade test scores in Maryland have been declining for many years — and not just because schools shut down during the coronavirus pandemic.
Math and reading scores tested annually have steadily dropped for more than 10 years, with reading scores matching lows recorded in the mid-1990s in the state and math scores in a free fall.
Several education experts told The Baltimore Sun the reasons for the continual decline are unclear.
“The honest answer is, we don’t know,” said Michael Petrilli, president of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute. Petrilli added that the trends in Maryland aren’t unlike the rest of the country.

Maryland State School Superintendent Carey Wright revealed Monday morning that late Friday, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) was told by the U.S. Department of Education that they would not be sending Maryland $360 million that federal officials had committed to Maryland.
At a Monday morning press conference, Wright said, “Shock does not begin to describe our reaction when we received notification late Friday evening.”
Wright said it jeopardizes over $400 million in funding. The money was post-COVID relief funding.
Delays in spending had been approved because of supply chain issues. Wright said the impact will be most deeply felt i...
