Baltimore, MD - Jan. 8, 2025 - Don't put away those snow shovels just yet. Mother Nature may have another round of snow heading toward Maryland this weekend. That will be accompanied by more bitter cold, with lows plunging into the teens three of the next five nights. A winter storm threat may materialize late Friday night into early Saturday, the National Weather Service said. A developing ice storm will target southern states by the end of the week before turning toward the mid-Atlantic and possibly New England this weekend, AccuWeather said. There's a potential for 1 to 3 inches of snow. AccuWeather said the storm could quickly head east into the ocean, leaving Central Maryland with less snow and the lower Eastern Shore with more. AccuWeather noted...
Baltimore, MD - Jan. 8, 2025  - Yesterday, Mayor Brandon M. Scott was joined by Governor Moore, City leaders, community partners, and residents to mark the historic violence reductions Baltimore saw last year and share the City’s public safety priorities for 2025.  Baltimore has experienced two back-to-back years of significant homicide reductions; both of the largest single-year drops in the city’s history. In 2024, the city experienced 201 homicides, a 23% decrease on top of the 20% drop in homicides Baltimore saw in 2023. Additionally, non-fatal shootings declined 34%, 414 in 2024 compared to 635 in 2023, and juvenile victims of homicides and non-fatal shootings dropped a substantial 74%.  “The reductions in violence the City of Baltimore is seeing is ...
California firefighters battled wind-whipped wildfires that tore across the Los Angeles area, destroying homes, clogging roadways as tens of thousands fled and straining resources as US officials prepared for the situation to worsen early Wednesday. The fires appeared to destroy scores of homes, business and other structures in three separate areas of southern California, with at least one synagogue completely destroyed by fire and other Jewish institutions under threat. All three fires were at 0 percent containment as of early Wednesday. In Pasadena, a blaze dubbed the Eaton Fire consumed over 1,000 acres as flames raced down Eaton Canyon toward homes and assisted living facilities, forcing thousands to race for safety, with winds expected to continue whipping up into the early morning...
