The Insitute for the Study of War (ISW) called the ceasefire in Lebanon that went into effect yesterday (Wednesday) a "defeat" for the Hezbollah terrorist organization, as it did not achieve its goals of forcing Israel to end its military campaign in Gaza or secure an agreement that Israel would no longer carry out military attacks in Lebanon in response to Hezbollah's attempts to rebuild and rearm. "This ceasefire and its terms are tantamount to a Hezbollah defeat," the ISW wrote in a report on the ceasefire. "Hezbollah has abandoned several previously-held ceasefire negotiation positions, reflecting the degree to which IDF military operations have forced Hezbollah to abandon its war aims. Hezbollah initiated its attack campaign targeting Israel in October 2023 to suppor...
ויגדל האיש – And the man became great, וילך – and he grew, הלוך וגדל – constantly greater, עד – until, כי גדל –- he grew, מאד – much. (בראשית כו יג) Although the verse is referring to Yitzchok’s financial successes, it chose to describe him as האיש – ‘the’ man. In next week’s portion, a similar expression is used to depict Yaakov’s achievements. ויפרץ האיש – And the man became wealthy, מאד מאד – exceedingly. (שם ל מג) Why the anonymity?  The term האיש – ‘the’ man, with use of the הא הידיעה – the definitive article, in the first three time it appears in the Torah is regarding the three Patriarc...

The Biden administration is pushing ahead with a $680 million arms sales package to Israel, a US official familiar with the plan said on Wednesday, even as a US-brokered ceasefire in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah has come into effect. The package, which was first reported by the Financial Times, includes thousands of joint direct attack munition kits (JDAM) and hundreds of small-diameter bombs, according to the official, speaking on condition of anonymity. The news comes less than a day after the ceasefire agreement ended the most direct confrontation in years between Israel and the Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah in Lebanon, but Israel is still fighting its other arch-foe, the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. However, the package has be...

Some leaders in Hamas are considering a Gaza hostage-ceasefire deal, in which the IDF would remain temporarily in the Philadelphi Corridor in the Gaza Strip, the New York Times reported on Thursday.  According to the Times, Palestinian and US officials believed that Hamas’ political leadership was ready to make a deal after the elimination of Yahya Sinwar last month. Because of this belief that Sinwar was the primary obstacle to a deal, the Hostage Families Forum released a statement Thursday evening calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying, “The time is ripe for a deal. A one-shot deal to return all the hostages home.” The Times noted that Iran also seems keen on avoiding another direct round with Isra...

The settlement of the Gaza Strip should be the response to the October 7 massacre and the ICC arrest warrants, United Torah Judaism head MK Yitzhak Goldknopf said during a visit to the Gaza border area on Thursday, Israeli media reported. "The settlement here is the response to the horrible massacre and the response to the International Court in the Hague," the MK said.   Goldknopf was reportedly accompanied by Daniella Weiss, a right-wing activist who advocates for the settlement of Gaza.
Before the ceasefire came into effect on Tuesday, IAF fighter jets, under the direction of the Intelligence Directorate, struck Hezbollah's largest precision-guided missile production site in Bekaa's Janta area. The 1.4-kilometer-long underground infrastructure was used to produce surface-to-surface missiles and components of different weapons and store a range of precision weapons designated to be used in attacks on Israel. The site was located in an underground compound near the Syrian border. Due to its proximity, the site was a central point through which thousands of weapons components and even terrorist operatives were smuggled between Syria and Lebanon. In the hours preceding the strike on the site, several strikes were conducted in the area to eliminate terrorists and di...
The IDF foiled an attempt by Hezbollah to develop chemical weapons several weeks ago, Channel 12 reported on Wednesday. The report did not mention any details about the weapons or where they were being developed. According to the unsourced report, the weapons were meant to be used by Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force during an invasion of Israeli territory. The report notes that while the terror organization was only at the beginning of the development process, Israel is tracking the development of the threat. A report earlier in the day by Makor Rishon said that soldiers in Lebanon have come across gas tanks, coveralls, and gas masks while searching Hezbollah positions. The report quotes IDF soldiers who claimed to have been briefed by members of the Home Front Command abo...
During a family trip near an archaeological site in Hod Hasharon, 12-year-old Dafna Filshteiner found an ancient scarab. * The discovery will be presented to the public at the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein National Campus for the Archaeology of Israel Dafna Filshteiner, age 12, was recently hiking below the ancient site of Tel Qana in Hod Hasharon, when suddenly, to her surprise, she discovered an unusual find a beetle-like stone used as an Egyptian amulet about 3,500 years ago. “I was looking down at the ground to find porcupine needles and smooth pebbles,” she says. “And suddenly I picked up an interesting stone. I showed it to my mother, and she said it was just an ordinary stone or a bead. But then I saw a decoration and stubbornly insisted it was more than that, so...
The Palestinian Arab Telegram channel "khalelnews," which has over 100,000 followers, published a post on Thursday calling for the murder of former MK Yehuda Glick. The post, which comes mostly due to Glick's activism for Jewish rights on the Temple Mount, includes a clear mention of the previous attempt on his life about a decade ago: "This criminal's aggression must end with a gunshot like that of the hero Muataz Hijazi." Glick stated that he submitted a complaint to the police about the post. "I hope the suspects are caught immediately. We can not be silent in the face of this incitement. These threats will never break my spirit to continue working for Jewish rights on the Temple Mount." A video posted on the channel describes Glick's activism as "offensive t...
Everyone has their favorite Chabad story. Here is mine. A friend once approached a Chabad shaliach (emissary) who would stand at the entrance to the subway station each and every Friday morning, asking people if they were Jewish and offering to help them lay tefillin. It was exceptionally rare for anyone to stop and accept his offer and my friend wanted to understand how the shaliach kept at it week after week, despite his repeated failure. The shaliach’s response was quintessentially Chabad: “My success rate is 100%. Every Jew that walks by me is reminded that he or she is a Jew.”   Chabad’s dedicated emissaries can be found in every corner of the globe, creating Jewish presence and outposts of Jewish life and caring, reminding Jews of who they are. Accordin...
