Former President Jimmy Carter, a man who redefined what a post-presidency could be, died Sunday. He was 100.
Carter, who lived longer than any other U.S. president, entered home hospice care in Plains, Georgia in February 2023 after a series of short hospital stays.
The only Georgian ever elected to the White House, Carter left office after a single term that was highlighted by forging peace between Israel and Egypt, but was overshadowed by the Iran hostage crisis. In the decades after, his reputation grew through his and wife Rosalynn Carter’s work at the Carter Center in Atlanta and his philanthropic causes such as Habitat for Humanity.
“People will be celebrating Jimmy Carter for hundreds of years. His reputation is only going to grow,” Rice University history profe...
A ceasefire and hostage deal had not been reached yet because Hamas “does not want there to be a deal,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in the weekly government meeting on Sunday.
During the meeting, the ministers attending were given a very limited briefing on the hostage deal talks.“The situation is less optimistic,” ministers told The Jerusalem Post.
The message conveyed to ministers was that “the negotiations for the hostage deal were stuck,” with Hamas “constantly trying to change direction in the talks.”
A meeting ahead of Netanyahu's surgery
The ministers were also told that Hamas returned to demanding an end to the war as conditional for any deal. The government meeting took place prior to ...
The IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) killed 14 Hamas terrorists, including six who took part in the October 7 massacre over the course of extensive operations in Jabalya, Gaza, the military announced on Sunday.
In coordinated operations conducted by the IDF and ISA, several Hamas terrorists who participated in the October 7 massacre were neutralized in Jabalya and Beit Lahiya, Gaza. The 162nd Division, guided by intelligence from the Intelligence Directorate, Shin Bet, and the Southern Command, spearheaded the targeted actions.

IDF chief of staff Herzi Halevi says the war Israel has been waging for nearly 15 months is far from over, but both Hamas and Hezbollah are no longer militarily viable.
“This is a long war, and I cannot say we see it ending,” he says at a ceremony for wounded soldiers at Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv. “But after the heavy prices we have paid, we are also seeing results. The military arm of Hamas has been defeated. Hezbollah has been completely routed.”
Earlier, while visiting southern Lebanon, Halevi said that the defeat of Hezbollah was not yet truly a victory for Israel.
“The way to truly win over Hezbollah — because we won militarily, our victory is quite clear — but true victory, victory that is long-term, that means lots of civilians h...

Israeli air defenses on Saturday intercepted two rockets fired from Gaza’s Beit Hanoun toward the Jerusalem area, an increasingly rare occurrence after nearly 15 months of war.
The Israel Defense Forces said both rockets were successfully intercepted, with no injuries or damage reported. Amid the attack, sirens sounded in Beit Shemesh and numerous surrounding towns, as well as in several communities near Gaza.
Long-range rocket fire from Gaza has become increasingly rare as the war has progressed, with Hamas’s launching capabilities severely hindered by the IDF’s ground offensive. Hamas last carried out a long-range rocket attack on Tel Aviv in August. The terror group has not fired at the Jerusalem area in over a year.
After the rockets were fired, the IDF issued evac...
A plane with 181 people aboard crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea on Sunday (local time), South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.
The Jeju Air flight, which was carrying 175 passengers and six flight attendants, had been returning from Thailand when the accident occurred during its landing, the report said.
The official death toll is currently at 85, but it is estimated that only two people survived the crash and the rest were killed.
The crash is believed to have been caused by "contact with birds, resulting in malfunctioning landing gear" as the plane attempted to land at the airport in the country's southwest, Yonhap reported.
Videos from the crash showed that after the plane landed on the runway, it was unable to slow down, hit the...
New details about the elimination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh have come out just days after Israel officially took responsibility for the elimination in the heart of Tehran.
Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) Iran expert Beni Sabti told Channel 12 that Haniyeh's elimination was "on a higher level than even the pager operation (in Lebanon). We penetrated the depths and the belly of Iran's most secure facility."
When Israel wanted to take out Haniyeh, who served as the head of Hamas's diplomatic bureau, it decided to rule out the option of eliminating him on Qatari soil so as not to harm the efforts to reach a hostage deal.
In addition, the Israelis learned that Haniyeh would regularly stay in a specific room in the Neshat compound in Tehran.

This marked the system's first operational deployment in Israel.
Footage shared on social media shows the THAAD system launching an interceptor during the Houthi attack.
“18 years I’ve been waiting for this,” an American soldier can be heard saying in the video.
The missile fired by the Houthis triggered sirens at around 3:30 a.m. in many cities and towns across central Israel, the Shfela (Lowlands) and Judea.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit stated that one missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted before crossing into Israeli...
Baltimore, MD - Dec. 27, 2024 - Baltimore City is in “urgent need” of a new courthouse, according to the City Clerk, after legionella bacteria was found this month.
“This is something that has been clear for decades,” Clerk Xavier Conway said, citing the water main breaks, the bacteria being found and other issues over recent years.
The Cummings and Mitchell courthouses reopened at 8 a.m. after both courthouses closed on Dec. 20 due to the bacteria.
Clerk Xavier Conaway said last week, “There’s no cause for concern to the public.”
In November, elevated levels of legionella bacteria were found at State Center office buildings.
Conway said a new courthouse is going to be a top priority.
