Master mechaneches Miriam Mintz, Z'L, leaves a powerful legacy of greatness In the Lamdeinu learning center at The Talmudical Academy of Baltimore, Miriam (Fink) Mintz’s imprint is everywhere—not only on the chairs and desktops where she worked with students for a decade, but in the minds and hearts of those students–all with various educational needs–to whom she was devoted. Then there are Miriam’s coworkers, alongside whom she learned and sometimes trained. Even the center’s hard drive is packed with material that Miriam created. She herself, however, is no longer there. Just a few weeks ago, Miriam Mintz, a master special educator,  tragically passed away at age 30 due to complications during a fertility procedure. Miriam, the third o...

Jerusalem, Israel - Sept. 10, 2024 - Jerusalem's real estate market is known for being competitive, with prices often out of reach for many who dream of living in the city. However, a new opportunity is emerging in Katamonim —one of Jerusalem’s oldest neighborhoods— that promises to offer spacious, high-standard apartments within a warm community, and at significantly lower prices than other American neighborhoods in the city.  The project, spearheaded by the Berger Group and marketed by brothers Meir and Chanan Sand, represents a unique approach to community living in Jerusalem. "We wanted to create a community where people can live near their friends and family, enjoy all the amenities they need, and still pay much less than other areas in the city," says M...

The US lawyer Alan Dershowitz told i24NEWS' Hebrew channel anchor Danielle Roth-Avneri that "Israelis have to assume that [Vice President] Kamala Harris will be the next president of the United States." Speaking to the "Morning Edition" program on Wednesday, he said that Harris won the debate with former president Donald Trump. Israelis must plan for "the worst-case scenario," he said, adding that Israel must assume that support from the US will be reduced. The Jewish state must become "more self-reliant" than it would be in a Trump presidency. Dershowitz said that he had left the Democratic Party after it had become "hijacked" by radical left-wing activists that are against Israel. "Many of them are pro-Hamas," he said. He singled out Tim Walz, Harris's running mat...
We are one third of the way through Elul. Have we changed yet? We are each at various stages of our journey in life. How different does each Elul seem in terms of our growth and spiritual accomplishments vis a vis the previous years? Are we discovering that the more things change, the more things seem to stay the same? Our portion begins with a sad tale of seemingly endless travails. A soldier's eye catches a glimpse of a beautiful captive woman, sensing a strong desire to take her as his wife. After waiting the requisite amount of time where the woman is to remain disheveled and unattractive, and yet not waning in his craving for her, she converts, and he marries her. Despite his hopes for a happy marriage, the Torah reports he ends up hating her, despite her having provided h...

A judge on Thursday threw out three charges in the sweeping Georgia election subversion case, including two charges that former President Donald Trump faces. The decision hasn’t yet been formally applied to Trump because his case has been paused pending appeals. In a separate ruling, Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee also upheld the marquee racketeering charge in the case, which Trump is also facing. Trump lawyer Steve Sadow hailed the rulings as a victory. “President Trump and his legal team in Georgia have prevailed once again,” Sadow said in a statement. “The trial court has decided that counts 15 and 27 in the indictment must be quashed/dismissed.” McAfee threw out one count of filing false documents and one count of conspiring to file false documents,...
Donald Trump appeared to definitely rule out another debate with Kamala Harris, a day after sending mixed signals following their clash in Philadelphia. “Kamala should focus on what she should have done during the last almost four year period,” Trump wrote Thursday, in all caps, on social media. “There will be no third debate!” Trump claimed he won the Tuesday debate with the vice president, through she was widely seen as having the better night. “When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, “I WANT A REMATCH,” he wrote. Asked if Trump was in fact ruling out a debate, a spokeswoman said in an email, “You heard the man!” Harris, meanwhile, again called for the candidates to meet ...
Israeli ground forces targeted an Iranian missile production facility in Syria during a strike this week attributed to Israel, according to Middle East expert Eva J. Koulouriotis, who specializes in jihadist groups and cited a security source. Koulouriotis wrote on X that special Israeli forces entered the facility, removed equipment, and then destroyed the site. On Sunday evening, reports indicated that Israel had carried out a wide-scale attack in the region, which included strikes on a scientific research center believed by Western sources to be responsible for developing non-conventional weapons. According to Koulouriotis, the operation began with airstrikes on several roads leading to the facility, located approximately six kilometers southwest of Masyaf. A Syrian military headquart...
RAFAH, Gaza Strip — The Hamas terror group’s Rafah Brigade has been decimated, at least 2,308 of its operatives have been killed by the Israel Defense Forces, and over 13 kilometers (8 miles) worth of tunnels have been destroyed, military officials told reporters in the Gaza Strip’s southernmost city on Thursday. Now, as the IDF maintains control of the entire city and the border area with Egypt, known as the Philadelphi Corridor, combat engineers are completing their investigations of a few dozen Hamas tunnels that have not yet been demolished, an operation that will not take longer than a few weeks. With seemingly no hostage deal with the terror group on the horizon — under which the IDF would likely have to withdraw from the Gaza Strip, including the Philadelph...

Agudath Israel celebrates the favorable vote earlier today of The Educational Choice for Children Act of 2024 (ECCA). Following a model already operating successfully in more than twenty states, H.R. 9462 will provide $5 billion in scholarships to cover expenses facing public and private school children. It does this by allowing a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit for taxpayers who contribute to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGO). These SGOs would then provide scholarships for a range of educational expenses, including private school tuition. Agudath Israel played a key role in the crafting and promotion of this legislation. Working with the sponsors and coalition partners over the last several years, Agudah staff participated in hundreds of meetings and most recen...
