Qaid Farhan al-Qadi, the former hostage who was rescued from Gaza on Tuesday, described his experiences in captivity to the security forces who rescued him. Kan News reported that al-Qadi stated that the terrorists guarding him abandoned the tunnel where he was held about two weeks ago and booby-trapped the tunnel. When the troops arrived at the tunnel, they instructed al-Qadi to put his hands up and identify himself. In response, he said that he was Israeli, which prompted the forces to instruct him on how to get out of the booby-trapped tunnel safely. In addition, he told the security forces that for the last eight months he was kept alone in captivity with the terrorists, after the Jewish hostage he had been kept with for the first two months was murdered by their terr...
The IDF announced on Wednesday that it found the body of an Israeli soldier who had been held by Hamas since its October 7 invasion during an operation late Tuesday night. The exact location of the operation remains under gag order. The body had been found buried in the ground following a Shin Bet interrogation of a detainee.  Unusually, the IDF did not allow publication of the name of the soldier whose body was found at the request of the family. The IDF and the Shin Bet on Tuesday early afternoon rescued Israeli-Bedouin hostage Qaid Farhanal-Kaadi from a tunnel in Rafah, who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 from Mivtachim in the South. Transportation Minister Miri Regev tweeted that the mission had occurred in Rafah, while the IDF referenced only...
The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) denied the Biden administration’s request to lift a block on the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) plan, which is designed to ease the burden of student loan debt for millions of borrowers. A federal appeals court in Missouri blocked the entire SAVE program from being enforced while litigation over the merits continues in the lower courts. The Department of Justice, which is part of the Biden administration, most recently asked the high court for emergency relief. The request went to Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who has jurisdiction over time-sensitive applications from Missouri. The Supreme Court justice asked Missouri and six other GOP-led states to respond to the appeal in writing by Aug. 19. On Wednesday, Kavanaugh d...
New York, NY - Aug. 28, 2024  - According to a report in Jewish Insider, Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) is urging U.S. airlines to rethink their extended suspension of flights to Israel, expressing concerns that these decisions could be seen as unfairly targeting the Jewish State. Torres wrote to the CEOs of American, Delta, and United Airlines, questioning why they halted flights without direction from the FAA. He emphasized that this has created a monopoly for El Al, leading to higher prices and fewer choices for travelers. Torres warned that these extended suspensions, planned to last into 2025, might be interpreted as a form of boycott, especially given that other airlines continue to fly to Israel safely. There were mixed emotions in the Rec Hall as Camp Romimu showed the end of summer banquet video to their hundreds of happy campers. The summer has been a smashing success both in ruchniyus and gashmius and that feeling was in the room. As I walked out of the Rec Hall, I saw that there was a camper from my division trailing me. It seemed as if he wanted my attention so I stopped as Ari turned to me. “Rebbe, I just wanted to thank you for everything you have done. I had an incredible summer”. I have received many thanks from boys but there was something about his that was so genuine. Although I had not done anything out of the ordinary for him over the summer, he made the effort to properly convey his thanks. It was clear that he had gone out of his comfort zone to give the tha...

The attorney general's office issued a directive on Tuesday that daycare subsidies for families of haredi military-age yeshiva students will continue until the end of November. The directive was a partial acceptance of a request by Labor Minister Yoav Ben-Tzur (Shas), who requested that the subsidies continue until September 2025, or at least until February. The issue first arose following the High Court of Justice's ruling in June that the haredi exemption from IDF service was no longer legal. The High Court noted that it was now also illegal for the state to provide benefits of any kind to military-age men who continued to study in yeshivot and did not report for service, unless they received a specifically approved exemption or delay of military service from the IDF...

IDF Central Commander Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth on Wednesday called the attack of around 100 Jewish extremists on the Palestinian West Bank village of Jit on August 15 the worst Jewish terror event ever. In issuing his probe of the event in which large numbers of homes and cars were burned, one Palestinian was killed, and some others were attacked, he said that he and all those involved from Israel and the IDF had failed to properly defend the Palestinian village properly. The military said that the investigation showed that there had been a regional warning at 8:00 p.m. when the Shin Bet noticed that certain extremists were gathering in cars, and that this warning led the security forces to deploy around main junctions and routes. However, at this stage, the IDF ...

US President Joe Biden ignored concerns and opposition by officials in his government to the plan to erect a floating pier to deliver humanitarian aid to the population of the Gaza Strip, an official US government report found. The report, published this week by the Inspector General of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), sought to evaluate the efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza through the maritime corridor (known professionally as JLOTS), which cost an estimated $230 million and only operated for 20 days. The report stated that "external factors" impaired USAID’s efforts to distribute humanitarian assistance to Gaza through JLOTS. Among those external factors, were the security requirements imposed by the US Department of Defense to protect US mi...
The Hamas terror group is losing control of Gaza's smaller terror groups, the Jewish Chronicle reported Wednesday, citing Israeli military sources. The report noted that some of the smallest organizations, such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), the Mujahideen Brigades, the al-Nasser Salah al-Deen Brigades, and the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, have "cut off" and no longer heed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar's instructions, These groups hold an unknown number of hostages. Only about 20 living hostages are held by Hamas, while the other terror groups hold the remaining hostages. According to the Chronicle, 22 handcuffed hostages are still believed to be alive - out of 108 still in Gaza - and those hostages are being forced into service as Hamas...
Hostage Qaid Farhan Alkadi was found accidentally by the Israel Defense Forces operating to locate a Hamas tunnel network, according to two senior Israeli officials speaking to the New York Times on Tuesday. According to the report, a team led by the elite Shayetet 13 unite scanned tunnels in search of signs of Hamas. To the surprise of the team, they found Alkadi alone, without guards, in a room located about 80 feet underground. Alkadi is the eighth living captive released in an rescue operation, but the first to be retrieved alive from a tunnel rather than from a house. Unlike the other seven, he was released without a fight, the report said, contradicting an IDF statement. Furthermore, according to the New York Times, the IDF is still trying to understand why he was found a...
Over half of the teacher vacancies in Baltimore County Schools are for special education classrooms. Chief Human Resources Officer Homer McCall II told the school board Tuesday night that the district has around 70 teaching vacancies after the first day of school, down from 126 earlier this month. He added that 123, or 70%, of schools in the district have no vacancies, and no schools have more than four. The district still has over 36 full-time openings for special education teachers and 10 for math teachers, according to McCall’s presentation. The district had around 43 vacancies for special education teachers at the start of last school year. “Our greatest needs are in special education and math,” director of staffing Susan Stansbury told the board.
