The Defense Security Cooperation Agency, part of the U.S. Department of Defense, notified Congress on Tuesday that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had approved five potential sales to Israel—collectively worth up to $20.3 billion—of tactical vehicles, mortar and tank cartridges, missiles and F-15 fighter jets. The sale of F-15IA and F-15I+ aircraft “and related equipment” costs up to $18.82 billion, according to the agency. Israel has requested to buy 50 new F-15IA jets, which are made by Boeing, the agency said. “The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to U.S. national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability.  A new Inspector General report confirmed that the City of Baltimore returned more than $10 million to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The $10.8 million returned to HUD stemmed from a combination of underspending and a lack of timely drawdowns, the statement said. A complaint was initially filed in July 2023 alleging the return in grant funding. A response from the Mayor's office as well as a planned strategy to avoid a similar situation in the future is included with the attached report.
Renew Baltimore filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Maryland to reverse a decision on whether a property tax rate cut can be on the November ballot. Renew Baltimore has proposed a gradual cut of Baltimore City’s property tax rate over a seven-year period from 2.2% to 1.2%. The petition received enough signatures to appear on the ballot in November. However, the Baltimore City Board of Elections rejected the proposal citing that according to Maryland law, only elected leaders can change property tax rates. A complaint was filed with the Baltimore City Circuit in July. The Circuit Court judge sided with the City on Friday.

Jerusalem, Israel - Aug. 13, 2024  - Iran may threaten Israel, but in Yerushalayim, tens of thousands of people of all ages gathered for Tisha B'Av 5784 in the Old City. The Kotel Plaza was filled with men and women to hear Eicha, sung in the Ashkenazi and Sephardi melodies. Sitting on the ground on stones or low stools, slow sad songs went on for hours as more people arrived well past midnight. Every year in Yerushalayim Eicha is read in thousands of synagogues and various locations. New this year near Balfour Street, Eicha was read to support hostage families. The annual walk around the Old City Walls gathered as usual in Independence Park with a reading of Eicha. Orit Strook Israeli Minister of Settlements and National Missions spoke briefly in the park and started with the...

Ford and Mazda are warning the owners of more than 475,000 older vehicles in the U.S. not to drive them because they have dangerous Takata air bag inflators that have not been replaced.
