Throughout chumash, we find examples of gratitude and compassion some of which are rather surprising. The most significant that come to mind are Moshe’s not smiting the ground or the water which facilitated his survival and our instruction not to show undue hostility towards the Egyptian because we were "guests" in their land. At the beginning of this week’s parsha, Moshe is commanded regarding the eventual destruction of the nation of Midyan for their role in seducing the nation towards the worship of Ba'al Pe'or and the illicit encounter involving Kuzbi. But Midyan was the nation that provided a place of refuge for Moshe when he fled Egypt. He spent a number of formidable years in Midyan and it is not inconceivable to suggest he enjoyed some form of protec...

A rocket strike Saturday at a soccer field killed at least 11 children and teens, Israeli authorities said, in the deadliest strike on an Israeli target along the country's northern border since the fighting between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah began. It raised fears of a broader regional war. Israel blamed Hezbollah for the strike in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, but Hezbollah rushed to deny any role. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Hezbollah "will pay a heavy price for this attack, one that it has not paid so far." The Israeli military's chief spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, called it the deadliest attack on Israeli civilians since the Hamas attack on Oct. 7 that sparked the war in Gaza. He said 20 others were wounde...

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, on Friday met former US President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The Prime Minister presented Trump with a picture of Ariel BIbas, who was kidnapped to Gaza with his parents and baby brother Kfir, holding a picture he had drawn in kindergarten. Netanyahu told Trump that Ariel’s grandfather asked that he give Trump the picture, which he had also given to President Joe Biden during their meeting. Trump said he has always had a good relationship with Netanyahu, despite recent tensions between them in the wake of Trump’s 2020 election loss. “My relationship with Netanyahu was never bad,” the former President stated. He also criticized Vice Pre...

On October 7, the London expat who lives on Kibbutz Alumim in Israel’s Gaza Envelope hid in a safe room with her husband Stevie and six family members for 27 hours as Hamas terrorists infiltrated the kibbutz and carried out their heinous atrocities, including torching her husband’s cowshed and destroying nearby chicken coops, fields, and orchards. Marcus is the founder of a resilience center in Sdot Negev Regional Council, which serves 5,000 evacuees and 8,000 citizens currently residing in the region. Sometimes you see a meme and laugh. Sometimes you see a meme and cry. Every once in a while, though, you see a meme and think. Recently, I came across a meme that actually made me think; it left me with feelings of inspiration as well as feelings of pridefulness to be a Jew.“Laziness kills ambition. Anger kills wisdom. Fear kills dreams. Ego kills growth. Jealousy kills peace. Doubt kills confidence. Now read that right to left.”Perspective plays such a crucial role in our lives. The way we look at things, what we choose to focus on, and how we perceive the world, will correlate to the type of life we are living. Many people choose to focus on the negative, optioning to only read from left to right. These people focus on the laziness, anger, fear, ego, jealousy, and doubt. Thes...
Pinchos is rewarded with G-d's eternal 'covenant of peace' in reward for his acting with zeal in avenging Kozbi and Zimri who incited the masses to immorality and the worship of Baal-peor, and quelling the subsequent plague that took twenty-four thousand lives. לכן — Therefore, say: Behold! I give him my covenant of peace. (במדבר כה יב) The word לכן is numerically equal to the notion of מדה במדה — measure for measure, indicating as the Midrash states, בדין הוא שיטול שכרו — he justly deserves his reward. (בעל הטורים) There are many attempts to explain the exact correlation of Pinchos' courageous act to the specific reward he received, of becoming a Kohen, and possibly that all Kohanim Gedolim descended f...
Baltimore, MD - July 26, 2024  - Nearly four dozen police departments from multiple Maryland counties and cities will join state police this weekend to increase patrols and crack down on speeding drivers, officials said Thursday. The high-visibility enforcement event plans to specifically target speeders in hopes of decreasing crashes and improving safety on Maryland roads, state Motor Vehicle Administration officials said in a news release. "We are asking all Marylanders to give themselves plenty of time to reach their destination and to please slow down," Motor Vehicle Administrator Chrissy Nizer said in a statement. "Speeding will only increase your chances of not getting to your destination at all." The following agencies will be participating in the enforcement event...

Baltimore, MD - July 25, 2024 - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a powerful case for Israel in his speech before Congress on Wednesday, but his message was much more clearly delivered by the scene outside Union Station. Netanyahu’s mission in Congress was neither to lay out specific plans for what comes after Israel’s military offensive against Hamas nor to announce the completion of a hostage deal. Rather, he came to remind America why Israel is a bipartisan issue and ultimately an American one. “If you remember one thing from this speech, remember this: Our enemies are your enemies, our fight is your fight, and our victory will be your victory,” he told lawmakers.  Bibi does not do kumbaya. While he would express Israel’s gratitude ...
Arson attacks on France’s rail network have taken place in what authorities are calling a "massive attack to destabilize the railway system," just hours before the 2024 Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony is set to take place. Trains at all major Paris stations have been delayed after fires and at least 800,000 people have been affected in the "arson attacks were set to damage our installations," according to a statement from rail company, SCNF. Authorities have not called this a terror attack, but reports are emerging that trackside signal boxes have been set on fire and cables on the lines have been cut which has caused major disruptions in the north and east of France. “Coordinated malicious acts targeted several TGV lines last night and will seriously disrupt traf...
