There is no indication that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the would-be assassin who attempted to kill the former president on Saturday, was connected to the Iranian plot, the sources said.

Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican running to flip a Senate seat that could determine control of the chamber, will once again skip the Republican National Convention. Maryland Republicans attending the convention said that doesn’t hurt the candidate, noting Republican internal polls show Hogan beating his opponent. Hogan also did not attend the party’s conventions in 2020 and 2016. Hogan campaigned in Prince George’s County on Tuesday. Prince George’s County is home to his opponent Angela Alsobrooks.
President Joe Biden in an interview with NBC News anchor Lester Holt Monday night admitted he made a “mistake” by calling for former President Donald Trump to be put in a “bullseye.” Biden made the comment during a call with donors last week while discussing strategies to take media attention off his disastrous performance at the first presidential debate. The remark, Biden said, was intended to convey his desire to put Trump’s lies during the debate in the spotlight. “It was a mistake to use the word,” Biden said in the interview. “I meant focus on [Trump], focus on what he’s doing. Focus on his policies, focus on the number of lies he told at the debate.” The president took a markedly defensive tone during the...
Baltimore, MD - July 16, 2024  - Less than 72 hours after a gunman nearly assassinated former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, the Republican National Convention commenced in Milwaukee. Trump was officially nominated as the GOP's presidential candidate. Security concerns remain unresolved, including the shooter's motive and proximity to Trump. Enhanced security measures are now in place for Trump, his new running mate Senator JD Vance, and Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In response to a request from Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman, law enforcement agencies nationwide have been called to assist with security at the RNC. Carroll County Sheriff's Office and Prince George's County Police Department in Maryland have deployed 15 deput...
New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez (D) on Tuesday was found guilty of bribery, acting as a foreign agent and a slew of other charges in his federal corruption case.  The embattled Democrat and ex-chair of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee was convicted on all 16 counts he faced, from accepting luxurious bribes in exchange for his political clout to acting as a foreign agent of Egypt. The jury had been deliberating since Friday afternoon.  Two New Jersey businessmen tried alongside Menendez were also convicted on all counts.  Menendez now stares down decades while mounting an independent reelection bid for a fourth term in the upper chamber.   Federal prosecutors accused Menendez and his wife, Nadine, last year of taking hundreds of thousands of dol...

Muhammad Deif, Donald Trump - Making Sense of It All Who would have thought that the targeted assassination of Muhammad Deif would be eclipsed by the assassination attempt against Donald Trump? It is our hope that Deif has, indeed, been eliminated and that the world has been cleansed of this evil. Trump has only suffered a light injury, baruch Hashem, but the attempt has thrown American politics into turmoil.  When you feel that the world is going mad, it is important to return to our sources. This week’s Torah portion, Balak, reminds us that what we are experiencing today has occurred before. We read how Balak, king of Moav, hires the prophet Bilaam to curse the Jewish people. Bilaam tries again and again to curse them, but each time only blessings emerge from his mouth. Th...
Former US President and Republican nominee Donald Trump announced Monday that he had picked Ohio Senator J.D. Vance to be his vice presidential running mate, choosing a candidate that could galvanize the Republican base and supporters of an “America First” foreign policy as well as pro-Israel voters. Trump made the announcement in a post on Truth Social during the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, just two days after the presumptive Republican nominee survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. Vance, 39, successfully ran for Senate in 2022 and assumed office in January of 2023. He serves on committees related to banking, commerce, economics and aging. The senator previously worked as a venture capitalist in the tech ind...
Baltimore, MD - July 16, 2024  - When it comes to children learning how to read, most experts agree the pivotal year is third grade. Now, Maryland is considering a policy which would require third graders be able to read at grade level before moving to fourth grade. Dr. Carey Wright has big plans as Maryland State Superintendent of Schools. But in her first year, she’s starting small. “I think you can identify little ones that are struggling very young,” Wright told Project Baltimore during an interview in March. Early Childhood literacy is a main focus of Dr. Wright and the Maryland State Department of Education. A newly drafted literacy policy introduced by MSDE would implement a reading intervention program for some of the state’s youngest learners. The...
Three people were wounded after shots were fired at an Israeli vehicle at the Ramin intersection near Beit Lid in the northern West Bank on Tuesday morning. The victims were a 32-year-old man and two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16.  The three were lightly wounded by shattered glass as a result of the shooting and received immediate medical treatment, according to Magen David Adom (MDA). According to Israeli media reports, they were soon transferred for medical treatment at Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba. IDF personnel arrived at the scene. Karin Moskovitz, commander of the MDA Samaria station, told Israeli media: "They said that a bunch of shots were fired at them, 8-9 shots, they did not see the shooter who was apparently alone." West Bank tension rising overnight Three ot...
Tech billionaire Elon Musk said he will commit $45 million per month to a new political action committee backing former President Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday. Musk’s announcement comes on the same day Trump was named the Republican Party’s official nominee and after he named Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate. America PAC will primarily focus on voter outreach and registration efforts, the Journal reported, with the intention to combat Democrats’ traditionally strong similar campaigns. Other notable backers of the PAC include the Winklevoss twins, tech entrepreneur Joe Lonsdale, former ambassador to Canada and Kentucky Senate candidate Kelly Craft and her husband, coal executive Joe Craft...
President Joe Biden has ordered the U.S. Secret Service to protect independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Kennedy is a longshot to win Electoral College votes, much less the presidency. But his campaign events have drawn large crowds of supporters and people interested in his message. Trump was not seriously injured in the shooting over the weekend in Pennsylvania. There is an independent review of the attack.
Former President Trump has chosen Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate for the 2024 election, tapping the first-term Ohio senator and America First firebrand to join the Republican ticket. Vance has emerged in recent months as one of the most visible defenders of the former president. Allies have praised him as an articulate voice of the populist conservative movement who has built a strong personal relationship with Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr., and Vance will likely be a fierce and willing attack dog in the bruising campaign to come. The selection of Vance also comes at a critical moment in the election, just days after Trump was nearly assassinated during a rally in Butler, Pa. Trump has seized on the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee as a moment to ral...
