The Biden administration is expected to soon release 500-pound bombs that were part of a weapons shipment to Israel put on hold in April over US concerns about the IDF’s military operation in Rafah, one US and one Israeli official told Barak Ravid of Axios on Thursday. About 1,700 500-lb. bombs are expected to be delivered after Israel's operation in Rafah ends, which is expected to happen in two weeks, an Israeli official told Ravid. At the same time, US and Israeli officials say the Biden administration is still reviewing another part of the shipment that includes 1,800 2,000-pound bombs. In early May, Axios reported that President Joe Biden decided to put on hold a weapons shipment that was supposed to be sent to Israel. The White House later conf...

The Supreme Court on Friday limited the Justice Department’s ability to use an Enron-era obstruction of justice statute to prosecute some people who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The court said a Pennsylvania man who entered the Capitol building during the riot may have been improperly charged under a statute enacted in 2002 that makes it a crime to impede certain government proceedings. The decision is expected to ripple through lower courts and could upend hundreds of other Jan. 6 cases. That may include the election-interference case brought against former President Donald Trump by special counsel Jack Smith. Congress enacted the 2002 law in response to the Enron accounting scandal and allegations that the energy company’s ...

Moshe pleas to G-d to not decimate the Jewish nation — and start anew through Moshe and his progeny — lest the nations of the world claim, "Because G-d lacked the ability to bring this people to the Land that he had sworn to give them, וישחטם — He slaughtered them in the wilderness." This harsh description of otherwise 'slaughtering' the nation is most unusual. Kill, death, destroy, are some of the terms used throughout the Torah when discussing a threat of punishment for their sins, but slaughtering and its gross implication of severing the head from the body warrants further study. Why was Moshe so worried about the nations casting doubt on G-d's 'abilities'? Were the proofs of the plagues He wrought upon Egypt and the splitting of the s...

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said Friday that he plans to put forth a resolution urging Vice President Harris to convene the Cabinet and declare President Biden unable to carry out the duties of the Oval Office after the commander in chief’s poor debate performance Thursday. The announcement marks the latest fallout from the CNN debate between Biden and former President Trump, during which the incumbent tripped over his words and appeared to lose his train of thought, prompting widespread concern among Democrats. “I intend to put forth a resolution calling upon the @VP to immediately use her powers under section 4 of the 25th Amendment to convene & mobilize the principal officers of the Cabinet to declare the @POTUS is unable to successfully discharge the duties and pow...
A raspy and sometimes halting President Joe Biden tried repeatedly to confront Donald Trump in their first debate ahead of the November election, as his Republican rival countered Biden’s criticism by leaning into falsehoods about the economy, illegal immigration and his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection. Biden’s uneven performance, particularly early in the debate, crystallized the concerns of many Americans that, at 81, he is too old to serve as president. It sparked a fresh round of calls for the Democrat to consider stepping aside as the party’s nominee as members of his party fear a return of Trump to the White House. Biden repeatedly tore into Trump in an apparent effort to provoke him, bringing up everything from the former president’...

For a long time, I’ve wondered about the living state (or lack thereof) of a bouquet of flowers. Are they alive or are they dead? I know they look nice, fresh, and colorful. But, if you think about it, cut flowers should essentially be considered dead. Which is exactly why I try not to think about it too much. After all, I like flowers and I think they look nice at the Shabbos table!Recently, however, as I was thinking about this morbid component to fresh flowers, my curiosity got the best of me (as curiosity tends to do!), and I decided to reach out to Josh Hurewitz, a business consultant who also holds a PhD in Horticulture. He explained to me that although the cells in the cut flower are still technically alive, the flowers are dying since they are cut off from their source and do...
